Enables budget review efficiency with open source advantages and workflow orchestration
Definitely, right now, it is purely open source, and we don't have much community support. If they add a few more capabilities like AIML and DocGen AI, these features would be good. Reporting capabilities can be improved more, and community support should be increased. Otherwise, people cannot onboard that particular technology easily.

Orchestrates infrastructure tasks like deployment, deletion, and management
Temporal focus on developers rather than business users. In contrast to older workflow orchestration engines like Camunda, which are more business-oriented and strongly emphasize UI and workflow authoring, Temporal is geared toward developers. It provides extensive capabilities for building complex workflows. A standout feature of Temporal is its handling of long-running workflows, a significant advantage over many other solutions. Temporal excels in managing distributed transactions and application state durability, especially in microservice environments where transactions might fail due to network issues. Temporal simplifies these challenges by managing retries, fail-safes, and circuit breakers. As a result, developers don't need to implement these features manually; Temporal handles them implicitly, though it also allows for tuning based on specific needs.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The main feature of Bizagi is the speed to which we can automate processes and how we can modify them without a strong impact on the end users."
"The most beneficial features of Bizagi for our business processes are its seamless connectivity between process elements and its ability to automate tasks and perform simulations."
"The most valuable features of the solution are the process modeling part and process simulation."
"I very much like the reusable rules and forms, and the way Bizagi controls the process flow. I also like the document generating system to generate PDFs and then .doc files with information gathered from a flow. At the end of a process, you can generate a document that can be printed."
"I like that Bizagi is fully compatible with BPMN 2.0. It also eases the way in which we work with BPMN 2.0 itself, which is a comprehensive and rather complex notation standard."
"The solution's simulation capabilities are the most valuable aspects."
"The product enables the users to automate the processes and provides a good user experience."
"It is quite a stable solution."
"The initial setup is easy."
"Temporal provides visibility into workflow progress and analytics and supports scheduled tasks with customizable settings, making it very convenient."
"The most valuable feature is its ability to manage and automate workflows without manual intervention efficiently."
"Temporal allows retryability for different workflows whenever they fail. It helps ensure idempotence and that things get done."
"The tool is easy for a beginner to learn. The documentation covers activities, workflows, workers, servers, and more. While more examples could be beneficial, the existing resources are good enough to help you get started. There are also YouTube videos available that can provide additional context. The Slack community for Temporal is very active and helpful, similar to Stack Overflow, where you can find answers to a wide range of questions from basic to advanced levels. If you have a unique question, the community is responsive and provides knowledgeable support."
"What I like best about Temporal is its durable execution, which means you don't need to write many boilerplate code for critical pieces, especially for retries. It also has great observability and a nice dashboard to see issues without digging into logs. The interface for viewing activities is excellent, with good tracing that shows how long activities took and what ran, making it almost perfect for debugging."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its ability to retry from an interrupted state."
"We like the fact that the whole process is durable, which is very useful to us."

Cons

"Bizagi could be improved by more automation and machine learning. Now that I'm learning more about data analyzers, I'm realizing that many people have problems with data and how to understand them."
"Sometimes, when your process is big with multiple lanes, the product will freeze the issue noticed on multiple laptops, not a single PC."
"They should improve the migration process between major versions, from version 9 to 10, we had to redo our implementation."
"The performance could use improvement. We couldn't connect the processes to on one file. The performance is an issue for us."
"I would like to see more in terms of analytics and better reporting."
"The solution's interface could be a bit more user-friendly and I would like to see more integrations with other Office products, not just Office 365."
"Enhancing data generation methods for easier printing and refining the file attachment and user interface to optimize usability."
"It needs an easier setup for the Bizagi Engine."
"Configuring workflows can be improved —the solution could offer more options, but it's not a must-have."
"One area for the product improvement is the learning curve."
"Temporal lacks many resources, like YouTube videos, which users can use to learn or refer to if they get stuck with the solution."
"While the tool can be a bit daunting initially, especially if you're not used to async programming models, it's generally a pleasure. There's always room for improvement, though. I've noticed some limitations with the .NET SDK regarding dynamic workflows, but this might have been improved in recent versions. Overall, I think Temporal could be more open about implementing features in a more—.NET-friendly way, especially in how you add workers and clients."
"We previously faced issues with the solution's patch system."
"One area where I think Temporal could improve is its dashboard, particularly in event tracking. Currently, the dashboard doesn't show a time-based view of events, meaning it doesn't display when an event started or went through the retry process. If this feature could be added in a future release, it would significantly enhance monitoring capabilities. Other than that, Temporal's overall performance is quite impressive, and we're confident we can migrate to the Temporal workflow."
"Temporal doesn't have built-in data storage to store the state of the ongoing execution."
"Sometimes it scales kind of badly, but it depends on the process of our products."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its price is reasonable."
"This is a free solution."
"Some solutions are completely free. One would be the business process diagramming tool, the server beneath it, and the automation tool. You don't need to pay to map the business process, but you would need to when you want to execute any of the commands. So, basically, they lure you in with a free ride, and when you want to scale the solution, you'll have to pay for it."
"Make sure that your requirements are explicitly defined from the outset. This will help you choose the right setup and licensing for your needs."
"The paid version costs us about $20,000 for 100 users annually."
"The modeler itself is free. For the whole BPM suite, there are other options that may be better."
"From what I know of the market, I think Bizagi is a cheap solution for process engineering. Out of the solutions I've tried, from cheapest to most expensive, would be Vizor, Bizagi, Signavio, and then Siemens. I used a version of Bizagi that my university provided for free, so I have never paid for a license."
"I used to be very pleased with the pricing. Now, it's a bit more complicated. I don't remember exactly, however, it might be $10 a month per user."
"Temporal is open-source and free to use, which is great. We didn't have to pay for any premium features."
"The savings weren't as big as we initially expected, but they were pretty great from a developer's perspective."
"The tool is open source under the MIT license, so there are no hidden fees. You can freely use everything on their GitHub and Docker images."
"Temporal is a free, open-source tool."
"It is worth the price."
