The main challenge that I have had with it was no line of support, but I've anyway taken away the Linux machine that I was using. So, I don't need that anymore. I'm migrating my Exchange to the cloud. So, I probably will stop using the exchange backup side of it sometime next year, but the rest of the virtual machines that I have on-premises are very well covered by it. To be able to back up my online Exchange, I know there is a backup in the cloud, but I prefer to have something physical with something on my premises as well. It stopped doing my backups after I did the last update on it.

Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Now that we are using the solution, we get notified online when our backups are done."
"We can configure the notifications themselves so that the right people get the notifications. This is very helpful. It allows key stakeholders to know if backups have happened and to remind each other to check the backups if something is not right."
"I get my reports. It is generally very reliable. Unless there is a major change, it doesn't stop backing up. I've got my server room set up with everything connected to the same power, and I never have power issues or failures of backups because a sub-site has gone off."
"I find BackupAssist very convenient to work on and I really like its user interface."
"The most valuable features of BackupAssist are ease of use, configure is simple, and more importantly, ease of recovery. If you needed to do a complete system recovery or another recovery it is straightforward."
"I would definitely recommend this solution to others."
"What you want is software that can be relied upon at the moment when a server goes down, you can backup simply and reliably, BackupAssist fulfilled this criterion."
"We managed to have good backups which were easy to recover, and easy backup of MS Exchange and SQL databases."
"The most valuable feature is the Restore file, where you can go back in time on a file-level."
"There has been a significant impact from using HPE Zerto Software because our provisioning times have reduced drastically, the time to complete the exercises has come down, and we were able to identify and cross-check the RTO and RPO values as well."
"We now have the ability to replicate critical data to a secure, off-site location that can be brought back in seconds if needed."
"Compared to the previous DR replication solution, Zerto has decreased both RPO and RTO significantly."
"We are very happy with HPE Zerto Software, and most importantly, we have a 0% loss in data, which is the great thing we have seen in HPE Zerto Software."
"My organization has experienced the benefits of using the tool, which include the ability to test our disaster recovery quickly."
"The customer service and support are excellent."
"Zerto has enabled the team to focus on engineering and spend less time developing APIs to work with custom solutions and security applications, positively impacting our IT resiliency strategy."

Cons

"In the future I would like to see more support for Linux."
"It stopped doing my backups after I did the last update on it."
"Many solutions become stagnant over time. However, BackupAssist has been consistent in updates but they must continue to innovate and improve to avoid stagnation."
"Has a few problems working with snapshots time-outs and failed backups."
"One issue I had with this program, was that I couldn't get it to back up my Linux virtual machines."
"The solution needs a dashboard or some form of central control from which you can manage all backups."
"Their support can be faster."
"I wish there was a mechanism or plug-in to do IP failover. That's the only manual thing that we would have to do."
"They should not make it so expensive so that I can buy more of it."
"There's a mandatory VMware version, so we need to update our VMs in order to access our data. Zerto should work with all VMware versions."
"I believe HPE Zerto Software could be improved by enhancing support for a wider range of hypervisors, as many customers are transitioning from VMware to alternatives, and I need HPE Zerto Software to integrate with these new environments."
"Some features are not up to what we need, although we have found alternatives and aren't really looking for Zerto to handle those items today."
"Customer support for HPE Zerto Software is adequate but not at an expert level, as data protection tickets are considered P2."
"Adding or changing VPGs (Virtual Protection Groups) may require restarting replication."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's on a yearly basis, but I'm not the one who does the licensing on that. I don't have any figures, but it's on a yearly basis, and I believe it's reasonable."
"The product pricing here in Zimbabwe is good, I cannot complain."
"The cost of the solution is reasonable and there are add-on options that can be purchased. I have used other solutions that are a lot more expensive that are not as good. The ability to get support is very simple and very reasonable from a cost standpoint."
"There's a yearly licensing cost. The costs might be around $2000 USD annually."
"Get the Enterprise Cloud license because it's the most flexible, and the pricing should come in around $1,000 per VM."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"I do not like the current pricing model because the product has been divided into different components and they are charging for them individually."
"It is cost-efficient because we have perpetual licenses. We are a small to medium-sized business, so cost is a pretty big important factor."
"Zerto is reasonably price for the product that you're getting. We keep on buying more licenses, so it's a good price."
"The product's pricing is the one area where it is less competitive."
"The pricing is good. It's affordable."
"The pricing is slightly above average, but the immediate and comprehensive support makes the price acceptable."
