Enables seamless integration and data preparation with robust transformation capabilities
AWS Glue's most valuable features include its transformation capabilities, which provide data quality and shape for processing in ML or AI models. It offers transformation options on canvas or through ETL pipelines, notebooks, and code. Additionally, it supports data preparation, cleaning, and filtering seamlessly. AWS Glue also enhances job scheduling and orchestration capabilities, integrating with AWS Glue Studio for comprehensive data workflow management.

Simplified integrations bring flexibility and efficiency to diverse industries through comprehensive features and robust support
SAP is already trying to make improvements for SAP Process Orchestration by releasing updates every quarter, including patches and modules, and from a security standpoint, while it's a tightly coupled tool, they are introducing a lot of enhancements aligned with current market trends. There are standard contents readily available for starting integrations, which suit around 90% of every industry across verticals including pharma, manufacturing, and employee data central with SuccessFactors integration. Regarding functionality-wise improvements in SAP Process Orchestration, they are now incorporating the Salesforce system. Previously, we needed to rely on a third-party adapter for integration within SAP, but now they are building their own adapters to connect with Salesforce. Additionally, there are options like data connectors using Ariba coming up with SAP Process Orchestration. There's much more to explore, especially as they release new patches, enhancements, and adapters each quarter.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution helps organizations gain flexibility in defining the structure of the data."
"If I'm working with big data, common languages like Python work quite nicely, which is advantageous."
"The key role for Glue is that it hosts our metadata before rolling out our actual data. This is the major advantage of using this solution and our clients client have been very satisfied with it."
"The solution is stable and reliable."
"It is AWS-integrated. There is end-to-end integration with the other AWS services. It is also user-friendly."
"The solution’s most valuable feature is the ETL job."
"I like its integration and ability to handle all data-related tasks."
"I like that it's flexible, powerful, and allows you to write your own queries and scripts to get the needed transformations."
"With the latest version what I find to be the most valuable are the REST, SuccessFactors, and Ariba Network adapters."
"The most valuable feature of SAP Process Orchestration is its flexibility in being able to build integrations with SAP systems and non-SAP systems."
"In my opinion, SAP PO is the most mature suite of tools to integrate processes across SAP environments at this moment. It's really unbeatable because it allows you to integrate whatever scenarios you can imagine."
"The solution offers very good documentation and manuals to assist with understanding the solution."
"The monitoring tools are the most valuable feature."
"It provides essential features such as continuous monitoring of all interfaces are crucial for our needs."
"I rate the product's setup phase a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy since it is a very easy process."
"The initial setup is easy...The solution gets automatically connected. The deployment takes six months. I rate its setup phase a ten out of ten."

Cons

"It would be better if it were more user-friendly. The interesting thing we found is that it was a little strange at the beginning. The way Glue works is not very straightforward. After trying different things, for example, we used just the console to create jobs. Then we realized that things were not working as expected. After researching and learning more, we realized that even though the console creates the script for the ETL processes, you need to modify or write your own script in Spark to do everything you want it to do. For example, we are pulling data from our source database and our application database, which is in Aurora. From there, we are doing the ETL to transform the data and write the results into Redshift. But what was surprising is that it's almost like whatever you want to do, you can do it with Glue because you have the option to put together your own script. Even though there are many functionalities and many connections, you have the opportunity to write your own queries to do whatever transformations you need to do. It's a little deceiving that some options are supposed to work in a certain way when you set them up in the console, but then they are not exactly working the right way or not as expected. It would be better if they provided more examples and more documentation on options."
"The solution’s technical support could be improved."
"The start-up time is really high right now. For instance, when you start up a new job, you have to wait for five or eight minutes before it starts. If the start-up time is reduced to one or two minutes, it will be great. It will be better to have a direct linkage to Redshift in AWS. If we can use data catalogs from Redshift, it will be so easy to create some data catalogs. Currently, we can only use data catalogs from S3."
"The technical support for this solution could be improved. In future, we would like to connect more services like Athena or Kinesis to help control more loads of data."
"AWS Glue's error handling is difficult."
"While working on AWS Glue, I could not find any training material for it."
"Currently, it supports only two languages in the background: Python and Scala. From our customization point of view, it would be helpful if it can also support Java in the background."
"In the building and deployment aspects, there is room for improvement. The current process is a bit complicated and could benefit from being more user-friendly and simpler, which would help speed up the deployment process."
"It does not have all of the industry-standard solutions available in PO and it is not plug and play, so we have to do a lot of development."
"Data modeling is an area of concern in the product where improvements are required."
"It is not a scalable solution for the cloud. I would not recommend this for the cloud."
"SAP Process Orchestration breaks down sometimes."
"I think the big improvement required in the tool stems from the fact that the whole issue around it is that we have some downtime failures during upgrades and patching."
"The product roadmap suggests it will approach the end of support in several years, and a lot of innovations are now implemented by SAP not in SAP PO, but in SAP Integration Suite, hence, the platform is stable, but doesn't receive a lot of new features in recent updates."
"SAP needs to improve a lot in terms of the orchestration part so that more adapters can be provided to users, which are areas where the solution has downsides."
"We encounter challenges while connecting to MQTT and MQDD adapters."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"AWS Glue is a paid service that doesn't come under the free trial of AWS."
"I rate pricing an eight out of ten."
"If you are using the solution for an enterprise business, it will be expensive."
"I rate the tool an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is expensive, and ten is expensive."
"AWS Glue uses a pay-as-you-go approach which is helpful. The price of the overall solution is low and is a great advantage."
"The overall cost of AWS Glue could be better. It cost approximately $1,000 a month. There is paid support available from AWS Glue."
"AWS Glue is a high-priced solution that bills the client $150,000 to $250,000 annually."
"The pricing is a bit higher than other solutions like Athena and EC2. If the pricing becomes more scaled or flexible, it will be good because you have to pay 44 cents just for one DPU for an hour. If you increase DPUs to 5 or 10, the pricing gets multiplied. There are also some time limits like 0 to 10 minutes or 10 to 20 minutes. If the pricing is according to the minutes, it would be better because you have to limit your job to 10 minutes or 20 minutes."
"Normally, you will have to choose CPU-based licensing...I rate the tool price a five out of ten."
"The price of SAP Process Orchestration was reasonable."
"Looking at market conditions, vendors nowadays are giving products at very low price levels. However, SAP Process Orchestration have not yet reduced their prices. The prices could be reduced a lot to stay competitive."
"The pricing for this solution is fine."
"There are fees in addition to the licensing."
"The fee for maintenance is costly."
"It's not an expensive solution."
"The cost of SAP products is quite high but the quality is really good."
