Enhanced data quality with machine learning support in diverse environments
We used Ataccama ONE to read data from the mainframe for a data quality perspective. There's a significant lack in that area with tools being able to interface with mainframe. MetLife has a diverse environment, including DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, legacy, and vSAN files. Being able to work in these various environments and put them to a single data quality tool was very appealing. Additionally, Ataccama supported AI and machine learning, which was one of the features I liked. Furthermore, we were able to interface bidirectionally with Collibra for data governance, catching data quality issues before propagating through the system.

Scalable, stable, and offers good technical support
SAP Data Quality Management would be better if it directly integrates with the ME system. Right now, the company has a lot of machines on the shop floor working as a standalone, so you have to use all methods to ensure that the data interface appears on the ME system and that SAP Data Quality Management records the QM results. It would be much easier if the ME system could be integrated directly with SAP Data Quality Management. What I'd like to see from SAP Data Quality Management in the future is the integration of machines on the shop floor or a feature that connects shop floor devices. I'd also like a custom dashboard in the solution, though I wonder if that's available in the new version. The old version my company uses doesn't have that. Another feature I want in the next release of SAP Data Quality Management is better communication between the ME and the SAP systems.

Has consistently provided impressive data handling capabilities and robust security features
Some of the most valuable features of SAP Data Services include data extraction where SAP is the best in that perspective, but when it comes to analytics or the reporting tool, I prefer to connect with Microsoft Power BI, which is a fantastic tool. Typically, from an end-user perspective, SAP has a huge amount of data, in terms of terabytes of data, but when you analyze that, the best form of visualization is always through Microsoft Power BI. SAP Data Services provides a best-in-class return on investment, as SAP's vision and forecast are absolutely amazing. They are ahead of technology, building an ecosystem that meets the standards of the fast-changing digital economy. SAP is indeed good at all this now, with so many components such as SAP Signavio, SAP EINS, SAP Work Zone, SAP ALM, Cloud ALM, SAP public cloud, SAP private cloud, and BTP, all of which are essential to meet the latest cutting-edge technologies.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product’s important feature is data profiling and quality check."
"The ease of use of the user console is valuable."
"The notable aspect lies in the workflow structure, where building the workflow aligns significantly with data governance."
"The drag-and-drop feature is incredibly flexible and straightforward."
"Customer service was excellent, and I would give it a ten out of ten."
"The data profile itself is excellent. You can understand the quality of the data in layman's terms."
"It is also easy to deploy."
"The desktop version of the solution was particularly valuable to me, primarily for creating components. We opted for the data quality aspect to assess the quality of our data warehouse. The functionalities available allowed us to not only check data quality but also serve as an ETL tool. This versatility enabled data transformation and storage in various formats, including files on platforms like SharePoint or local online directories. The flexibility of the tool catered to the specific needs of those building components, contributing to our desired outcomes."
"Scalability is good."
"We work with API standards or norms for internal applications, so it's essential for SSE to have tests and pass those tests according to the criteria, which makes SAP Data Quality Management very important for our products."
"Our primary use case is for us to inspect the results from the product and material, and for releasing or leaving the status of the product."
"The most valuable feature is the logging capability."
"I have worked with Data Services for a long time, and currently, I find the dashboarding and reporting part to be the most valuable function."
"The solution offers very good integration capabilities."
"It is a powerful product with a broad range of features."
"The BA reporting tools, such as Data Services, and ETL tool in SAP Data Services are the most valuable. When we had in-memory requirements, we used HANA. HANA is most preferably for most the customers for in-memory. SAP is the first company that created the in-memory concept."
"You can always manipulate a lot of things as long as you have the skill level."
"The fact that it's built on SQL, it makes it easy to write code. The database and the connection are quite smooth."
"The maintenance of data services is the solution's most valuable feature."

Cons

"Speaking specifically about the version we use, version 12.3, I'm unsure if this has been addressed in subsequent versions. One improvement I'd like to see pertains to the language used in certain components, especially in data quality checks. The language complexity posed a challenge for beginners. Although we had on-site assistance from Ataccama, making it manageable for us, some individuals found it difficult to comprehend, necessitating additional support. The provision of a comprehensive guide for on-premise installation can also be enhanced. The lack of detailed information on the solution's workings and the overwhelming nature of notifications, with extensive content, were areas of concern. Streamlining the notification content in newer versions would significantly expedite issue resolution."
"The interfacing to tools such as Collibra was somewhat cumbersome and required more thought."
"There is a notable challenge in having to provide detailed filters before the site recognizes the search criteria."
"It is complicated to fetch 20-25 reports when we profile the data."
"Data movement is a pain."
"Although DQA can fetch data from most of the commonly used data sources, it has limited modifiers to get data, meaning that the number of technologies from which the data can be acquired is limited. For example, DQA does not support fetching data from Twitter or Facebook. Many competitors have this feature."
"I believe it would be beneficial if it could enhance its flexibility to connect with a wider range of downstream systems beyond just Excel and Postgres."
"They could focus more on marketing the product. The current marketing strategy is not working."
"SAP Data Quality Management would be better if it directly integrates with the ME system. Right now, the company has a lot of machines on the shop floor working as a standalone, so you have to use all methods to ensure that the data interface appears on the ME system and that SAP Data Quality Management records the QM results. It would be much easier if the ME system could be integrated directly with SAP Data Quality Management."
"There are some limitations. They are not covering complete scenarios for all the modules."
"I would like for them to develop a feature to able to record all of our inspections; so all the data can go through SAP. It's not user-friendly or easy to get further analysis, so we mostly skip this step."
"It would be nice if this solution was a bit easier to move from development to production."
"In the future, Data Services should offer a cloud version."
"The solution shows a lack of cloud support data services."
"An area for improvement in SAP Data Services could involve making the product more accessible to non-technical end-users."
"We would like the different tools offered within this solution to be available as standalone entities, rather than having to purchase the entire package when we only require a few features."
"The execution engines and processing engines have shortcomings and need improvements."
"Scheduling of jobs in the sequence is not available. It's a very tedious process to do that particular task. If there was a tool to schedule in the sequence that would be extremely helpful."
"Some of the jobs that are built within Data Services require local files, and during initial deployment, those local files cannot be transported between machines simply because of security issues."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our licensing model wasn't user-specific; instead, we paid fees for the engine and maintenance. As we didn't have a support contract, maintenance fees were likely nonexistent. Regarding the upgrade, we had an account for the initial two or three years, and considering the features provided by the solution, the pricing was reasonable."
"The product is reasonably priced."
"Despite not being extremely low-cost, the pricing appears reasonable, making it a profitable and viable choice for companies that prioritize data security and adhere to specific policies."
"There is no need to buy a license. You can just download it and use it for free."
Information not available
"Pricing is good, there is no problem."
"The pricing is a little high to make the product more competetive in the marketplace."
"The license price is expensive but medium to large-scale companies, should be able to afford it. Other solutions, such as Talend are easier to afford for smaller companies. Depending on the sources of the data where you are receiving your data you could be paying for more than one license."
"I rate the product price as one or two on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"The enterprise version of SAP Data Services is free."
"The product’s on-premise version is expensive for a medium-sized company."
"Speaking about prices, Oracle and SAP are market leaders. So, the prices are more."
"Its pricing is as per the enterprise agreement and not a concern for us."
