Centralized backup has improved data protection and simplifies secure, compliant restores
The biggest advantage of the product is that it is basically a single appliance which comes with a bundle of backup software and the appliance, as we have a single console to manage it. It also provides other features such as data encryption at rest, along with data deduplication and compression in backup which is very useful. From the centralized dashboard, we can manage the backup job and determine if the backup job is happening appropriately or not. If any backup job fails, we can find out the root cause for the failures. Because it is a hardware-based appliance, we can restore the data immediately, and it provides genuine restore capabilities. In terms of data availability compliance, we are looking for data availability and data security in terms of encryption, data deduplication and compression. It provides data availability as each appliance comes with RAID. If one or two disks fail, then our data appliance is still available for backup. It also provides encryption, so our data is also ransomware protected.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has helped us to provide comprehensive data protection with high recovery rates and a malware scanning feature."
"Since we have implemented Asigra we don’t have an administrator to do manual backup to tapes and external HDD; everything is automated and there are no hassles for the administrator."
"Flexibility really means a lot for us. Being able to address almost every client backup and recovery requirement means that we have a tremendous amount of confidence as do our partners that Blueshift is going to be able to deploy a solution quickly and efficiently."
"I have found all the features useful in the solution."
"It provides a secure and stable cloud backup solution."
"The solution has been very stable."
"Simplicity, very easy to restore user data, means that we don't have to request off site tapes to be delivered to the office, can easily access the cloud data and restore most data within minutes."
"Asigra is a cost effective solution and very competitive in the market."
"The product is integrated with Huawei software and its backup and recovery time is very fast."
"Dell PowerProtect is stable and scalable."
"It backs up our Windows systems and our Linux systems and everything."
"The features I appreciate the most about Dell PowerProtect DP (IDPA) are that it's self-service, simple to use, and has some immutability to protect the data from any tampering."
"In summary, this product is very stable, has the best of Avamar Data Domain, and has good reporting."
"What I appreciate most about Dell PowerProtect DP (IDPA) is the ability to adjust your type of bandwidth, because some of our nodes sit in remote areas in the mining industry, so we have wireless links running, and especially with wireless, we sometimes have intermittent connectivity."
"We use it for complete backup and recovery. We have multiple clients and have created multiple large virtual capabilities and zoning backlogs."
"It is a good, stable product with good reliability and performance."

Cons

"More integration with leading storage solutions."
"They should improve the malware scanning capabilities, extending it to protect cloud application data."
"They should have 24/7 support for customers in different time zones. They are slow to respond to requests, and I get the impression that the ServiceDesk is overloaded."
"I think the product needs more diversity in Hyper-V."
"I think Asigra still needs to simplify their GUI."
"The management could be a bit better."
"At present, downloading the relevant files and placing them into a directory on the DS-System is a little cumbersome and open to error/malicious use."
"Asigra's implementation and day-to-day costs are very high; necessary features can significantly increase the cost of implementation."
"The solution's implementation was very complicated and could be improved."
"We cannot add IDPA to DPC, and each IP has a DP Central, which cannot monitor other IDPAs."
"The price could be lowered slightly, to make it more competitive."
"I would like to see integration with Dell EMC's Cloud Tier."
"I would like to see more options and features about Recovery from Dell EMC Cloud Tier"
"One area of Dell PowerProtect DP (IDPA) that can be improved is probably more integrations with third-party software, particularly third-party backup software."
"The product's index master feature needs improvement."
"However, I would say the bare-metal restores need improvement because if you have a failure on a certain piece of hardware, you have to replace it with the same hardware, which is the only thing I can mention."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of Asigra could improve, it is expensive. We have purchased an annual license."
"Asigra is priced competitively, but requires technical expertise to operate, optimize, and maintain its services."
"The licensing is billed on a monthly basis. Dell is bundled so that when you order IDPA, you get everything together with the license."
"I would rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"Dell PowerProtect DP (IDPA) has a yearly subscription fee."
"It is a cost-effective solution."
"We have a perpetual license. It is a capacity-based license."
