Cost savings and efficient decompression but needs better cloud integration
Our primary use case for Arcserve UDP is its decompression feature, which helped us save money by reducing storage needs. Despite moving to cloud applications, we have been using Arcserve UDP for backup and disaster recovery Arcserve UDP has helped our organization save considerable amounts of…

Ease of use, performance, availability, and scalability
The initial setup is very easy, user-friendly, and not complex. It mostly comes with all installed, an operating system, database, and security, all included in Power Systems. So users can easily install, configure, and use it. It's integrated with other systems. You can run different systems from IBM Power Systems, AIX Linux, or IBM I operating system. It's also integrated into Windows systems and other databases and servers.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is live replication."
"It is easy to configure."
"The product's deployment process was straightforward."
"The ease of use is the best feature of the product."
"Arcserve has a feature called virtual standby (VSB), which has been very helpful because I already have a hot standby copy of my critical infrastructure. If something breaks, I can spin up that virtual standby copy in less than five minutes and ensure that my data is available to everyone and that business continuity is maintained."
"Our customers are happy with the product’s functionality."
"Arcserve UDP has a good configuration and user interface. It makes the job of an administrator easy."
"The data protection functionality is the most valuable feature of this solution."
"Disaster Recovery Services is stable."
"The initial setup is very easy and user-friendly."
"The solution works well for very large organizations. It can scale quite well."

Cons

"It should be easier to switch between backup locations. We have multiple data storage locations and sometimes one of those storages need to be replaced. It would be nice if they made it easier to reconfigure the backup configuration."
"A lot of their new technologies are not very good."
"The time to backup servers that sit in DMZ must be improved."
"StorageCraft ShadowProtect can improve by making one console that can control backups of all desktops and servers in one place. Additionally, the recovery process of the backups is very slow and could improve. It's very slow when we went to recover a complete disc but to recover one file is very fast."
"I had an issue with Arcserve UDP during the failover and the secondary machine didn't get back online, even though it ran automatically. I faced the issue during a crisis situation. However, I haven't faced such a problem again."
"We are looking at scaling up to the cloud and using immutable copies on the cloud. Arcserve UDP 8.0 does have the immutable feature supporting AWS, but I'm looking for multi-cloud support. So, I'm waiting for Arcserve to release that in the next release."
"Arcserve UDP is in the middle range of complexity. The interface can be developed a little bit more to be user-friendly."
"Licensing can be quite difficult."
"Disaster Recovery Services could provide better value for money."
"Stability could always be better."
"The infrastructure level of IBM's recovery systems could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is moderate."
"There are annual subscription fees and there are licensing costs for three computers. It is an expensive solution."
"In comparison to other vendors, it is a low-cost solution."
"The solution is very expensive."
"The solution is priced well compared to other solutions."
"The licensing cost is for one year. There are not any hidden costs involved in the pricing model of the solution."
"We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP."
"The solution is not very expensive, but it is not cheap."
"Disaster Recovery Services is expensive."
"The pricing of the solution is based on the scale of the project or business. It's based on the server amount and the amount of data being stored. For our client, based on the amount of data they have, it may be around $20,000 USD. It could get much more expensive on the customer side."
