Faced challenges with audit trails and seek better user-level monitoring and control
Regarding built-in authorization, monitoring is quite substantial, and versioning systems is also what we are using. With Amazon API Gateway, we utilize a variety of deployment methods and services they provide, so monitoring services are the important parameter in API control from our side, allowing us to see how the APIs behave and how well they pick up the data from their respective sources. Integration with AWS Lambda has been beneficial since we have event controllers that help identify the APIs, which then call the API from the API services. We're managing this with events that are parameterized through API identification, mostly using Python in Lambda, which has inbuilt features to track API lifecycle parameters. The defined parameterized features in Amazon API Gateway help streamline API lifecycle management. Our AWS system admin team sets these configurations for us. The versioning number gets updated as we deploy revised API versions, which gets monitored on the API monitoring services. The cloud engineering team assists us as we are from a solutions development and deployment team. The importance of Amazon API Gateway's global API deployment for our application's performance is significant in terms of scalability and availability. Amazon API Gateway services have been very good, maintaining a 99.99 SLA, providing us confidence in the global deployment level as it is capable of handling various endpoint types, such as database sites and legacy systems.

Integration platform has simplified logistics workflows and has streamlined complex order handling
The best aspect is that it is very easy to use. The UI is very intuitive, and you can learn it very quickly because the basic principles are straightforward and easy to search. Frends has a great UI, but the UI is missing role-based permissions. You can filter your integrations by roles and add several users to roles, but in the UI, the functionality for this kind of management feature is not optimal. User management or user role management could be improved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This solution gives you end-to-end protection in what you're able to do, including certificate-based TLS from endpoints so you can protect the whole link and it will generate certificate keys for you."
"The Cognito authorization integration is very useful, along with the easy multi-region integration and connectivity with various AWS services like SQS, SNS, and Lambda functions."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"Amazon API Gateway facilitates our serverless architecture, particularly with Lambda, by allowing us to perform various tasks. For instance, Lambda functions authorize API calls, execute multiple workloads, and integrate with other services like Azure and Kubernetes. Additionally, we leverage Lambda functions behind the Amazon API Gateway to query databases, process data, and interact with different systems."
"Amazon API Gateway services have been very good, maintaining a 99.99 SLA, providing us confidence in the global deployment level as it is capable of handling various endpoint types, such as database sites and legacy systems."
"The best features of Amazon API Gateway include security and metering, which involves the analytical part of how the APIs are being consumed since it's for consumer APIs built for use by other applications."
"The technical support is very strong, and we've had issues with the solution and configuration and we've gotten very good support."
"The most valuable feature in Amazon API Gateway is the itinerary release."
"The best aspect is that it is very easy to use."
"The product has valuable features for version control."
"The user-friendly interface for constructing integration solutions is also a notable benefit."
"One of the benefits is the speed of creating something new. Second, it's replacing the old integration quite fast. Then it is like the visibility of the integration and the possibility to see what is happening in the integration."

Cons

"An audit trail and audit stamps managed at the API level to control API movement would be beneficial."
"The pricing could be improved. In cases where customers require real-time sync or real-time calling groups with IoT, the volume of data and time lag become a concern."
"The tool's UI requires time to understand."
"The solution should include change data capture (CDC) features that will help reduce workload"
"Amazon API Gateway will wait for only 30 seconds to get a response from other services, such as the Lambda function."
"API Gateway lacks some governance features that MuleSoft offers, and there are additional features that could make it even better."
"Amazon API Gateway can improve the user interface in some areas it could be more polished."
"There are features lacking in API Gateway, such as the timeout settings, which currently are set at 29 seconds."
"One of the primary areas for improvement is a more mobile-friendly interface for the control center."
"Logging should be better."
"It is a new application and lacks some essential features compared to competitors."
"Another enhancement includes the monitoring part. It would be nice to have some sort of maybe mobile app on which we can see how integrations are running if there are some problems, and getting those alerts on the mobile would be really nice."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"AWS charges for data ingress and egress, which could be further reduced. This would be helpful for customers dealing with large amounts of data coming in or going out from their systems."
"The solution's pricing is cheap and based on the number of requests coming to Amazon API Gateway."
"I rate the tool's price as seven on a scale of one to ten, where one means low price and ten means high price."
"Amazon API Gateway has various pricing plans, but I cannot give the exact cost, though I can say that it's expensive. On a scale of one to five, I'd rate the pricing for Amazon API Gateway as two, as the solution is one of the most expensive products in the market for API management."
"The product is a little expensive."
"There is an annual licensing cost to use Amazon API Gateway."
"Fees are volume-based."
"This is a pay-per-use service, where you only pay for what you use."
"Recent changes in their pricing have removed this benefit, moving towards process-specific pricing."
"The pricing is quite fair."
