Strong technical support and effective toolset improve workflow but setup process requires refinement
I have experience with Nintex and K2, but I do not have experience with Unqork. I am specialized in Microsoft products such as Power Automate and Power Apps. I have knowledge of Microsoft Intune and Defender, along with certain Azure components. I work for an organization as a presales architect, proposing solutions to customers. I am familiar with Microsoft Defender for Identity, for Business, and for IoT, though I haven't worked extensively on that. I have a conceptually good understanding of it. I'm mostly working on Microsoft collaboration tools, which include SharePoint and Power Platform tools. I have been dealing mostly with Microsoft, but also with other vendors. Regarding database services, we typically use SQL server services. We have not used Amazon RDS; typically, we use PostgreSQL or MySQL. On the Azure side, I work with Azure Database services including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Cosmos. I was previously working as an architect for U3Soft and am currently working with Birlasoft (B I R L A S O F T). My overall rating for Amazon API Gateway is 8 out of 10.

High level security, handles large volumes of data, and useful filters
The areas for enhancement should be improving certain filters within the solution. Although they are generally functional, there are occasional problems that could be more precisely adjusted. Additionally, the solution performs well within its workload limitations, but it may not be suitable for scaling up or managing a larger volume of transactions through the gateway. To address this, it may be necessary to adopt a unique architecture rather than relying on traditional pre-packaged options. If there was a new release of this solution there should be a feature called "Revision History" or "Version Control" that would allow developers to easily navigate and compare different versions of their API flows within the Amplify API Management toolkit. This would save time and effort by eliminating the need to constantly switch between the toolkit and external Git repositories. Additionally, it would provide an added layer of security by allowing developers to quickly revert back to previous versions if a mistake or issue arises.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Amazon API Gateway facilitates our serverless architecture, particularly with Lambda, by allowing us to perform various tasks. For instance, Lambda functions authorize API calls, execute multiple workloads, and integrate with other services like Azure and Kubernetes. Additionally, we leverage Lambda functions behind the Amazon API Gateway to query databases, process data, and interact with different systems."
"API Gateway is out of the box and works well with Amazon products."
"From my perspective of ease of use, it is very good."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"API Gateway is out of the box and works well with Amazon products."
"The initial setup is pretty easy. Deployment only takes five minutes."
"The best thing about Amazon API Gateway is that it can authenticate and authorize requests without going to our back end."
"API Gateway is easy to set up, allows for custom domain assignment and rate limiting based on customer tiers, and works well for defining different states for different customers based on their purchase plans."
"We like the portal for documentation a lot."
"There's drag and drop functionality so that you do not need to have a senior expert developer to make use of the tool. You can get more of your staff trained up to be able to use it as it's not overly technical."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is security."
"This platform can be highly scalable."
"The API portal capability is a valuable feature."
"In general, API governance provides a better experience for providers."
"The administration tool for this solution is good."
"This product is a ten when it comes to API management."

Cons

"The user interface could be improved, as well as customer support and having a local customer representative in a country."
"Since the first invocation of AWS Lambda takes more than 30 seconds because of Lambda's cold start, Amazon API Gateway blocks that resource, thereby aborting the invocation."
"The API Gateway lacks the capability to directly facilitate API strategy development or user onboarding workflows."
"From a use cases perspective, you need to have an internal and external gateway. AWS can only handle external traffic so has to be used together with another solution."
"There are certain restrictions that cannot be implemented without web access."
"Amazon API Gateway will wait for only 30 seconds to get a response from other services, such as the Lambda function."
"Monitoring could be improved."
"They could include more support tools in the product."
"The API Mocking tools need to be improved."
"The portal still has room for improvement."
"The product shows a lack of maturity. The setup is difficult, the tech support and community are lacking, and it is not very stable."
"Sometimes we find bugs where certain calls are not returning all the data we need."
"In terms of customer service, the company needs to be easier to contact, and the support team needs to understand the situation and the product itself better."
"This solution does have some limitations regarding the deployment model."
"Team management capabilities could be improved."
"The installation process is a bit complex and it could be a lot simpler."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Amazon API Gateway has various pricing plans, but I cannot give the exact cost, though I can say that it's expensive. On a scale of one to five, I'd rate the pricing for Amazon API Gateway as two, as the solution is one of the most expensive products in the market for API management."
"My understanding is that it easily goes to $14,000 or $15,000 USD each month for each account, and we have several such accounts."
"I am satisfied with the price."
"Azure products are more cost-effective than AWS solutions"
"I rate the platform's pricing a five out of ten."
"It is somewhat costly, particularly when it introduces server-related features, which are often scheduled on our end."
"There is an annual licensing cost to use Amazon API Gateway."
"There are no licensing fees."
"The solution is expensive. When you acquire a license you have full access to the solution, unlike other competitors such as Apigee X, where there are fragmented licenses. Some licenses only allow access to certain features while others allow access to more features. Upon procuring this solution's license, you will have full access to the solution, allowing you to experiment with all of its features."
