Reliable performance enhances operations with good technical support
We run the entire IRS system, the income system, and the tax system. We also manage the entire Absa banking system in Africa. There's a lot of database applications, similar to those used in banks and the IRS The most valuable features for us are reliability and performance. Our system is used…

Native encryption ensures secure data management with a simple deployment
The most valuable feature is the on-premises data encryption facilities. By default, we can provide encryption, and this feature in MySQL is why we prefer it over other databases. The native encryption in MySQL encourages us to use this database model more frequently compared to Oracle and other databases. With Oracle, we have to buy another solution for encryption and masking, but MySQL supports native encryption, which enhances our return on investment. It perfectly supports our ROI, and we have no issues with its functionality.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features for us are reliability and performance."
"The deployment of our solution across a number of servers using Ingres .NET has meant that we can protect the database server behind a highly secure firewall and deploy the front end solutions on a normal web server."
"It is easy to use."
"MySQL gives us a very user-friendly workspace in which to query the database."
"A lot of the software components have been trialed and tested for often more than 10 years."
"The replication feature is the most valuable. We are replicating our servers."
"It's a mature solution that's been around for decades."
"When comparing MySQL to other solutions it is easier to use and boots up faster. Additionally, when you want to query a lot of data, MySQL is better in performance."
"It is a scalable solution."
"We use MySQL for enterprise data storage as well as part of the back-end of websites and web applications."

Cons

"The ability to reset the log file without stopping the DBMS would be helpful for us."
"The seamless integration is a bit of an issue."
"It could be a little bit simpler to use."
"Integration is a key feature in need of improvement."
"I find the Microsoft solution a bit better. But mostly in terms of the UI layout, I would say. I just find it a little bit more efficient."
"The solution could have better integration and security features."
"The solution could improve the monitoring. At the present time, you need to use third-party monitoring solutions."
"It isn't as reliable as an SQL Server."
"The workbench could be improved. In particular, error messages can be improved, which are horrific and completely unhelpful. I'd like to see improved parsing of errors. When you write SQL and it crashes, it usually is something completely irrelevant and not helpful. I've started to use GPT 3.5 for finding out how to do things. I got to do something a bit different, and that I found to be very useful. If there was some way to tie it into one of the new AI tools, that would probably be a good idea."
"The GUI could improve in MySQL."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"This is an open-source product that can be used free of charge."
"I am using the Community Edition, which is available free of charge."
"MySQL is released under an open-source license, so you have nothing to pay to use it."
"The solution does not come with a licensing fee."
"MySQL is a cheap solution."
"The price of the solution is good because we have a good partner."
"There is a license for this solution. A lot of the time the solution gets bundled with other hardware or software purchases."
"I rate the solution's pricing as four out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive. For our basic needs, it's quite affordable. However, the cost increases when we need to scale up or require high availability. Our developer team of about 600 people uses MySQL without much issue. The pricing becomes more of a concern on the business side, as we have more end users and need constant database availability and scaling. In those cases, the solution gets a bit more expensive, even though it provides good value for the business."
