What is most valuable?
The granular recovery is a significant advantage. Our employees with limited technical knowledge tend to make mistakes, and Barracuda makes it easy to recover specific items. The user interface is also much better than BluVault or Veeam. Those are the two main advantages for us.
What needs improvement?
There's always room for improvement in a product, whether it's stability or its graphical user interface. For example, it would be nice if a user could delete something and then recover it themselves. That would be a nice feature.
Maybe, granting users specific access rights to Barracuda for their own backups so they can restore something themselves would be a nice feature. It would save our support team some time. While I don't think there's any backup solution that currently offers this, it would be a valuable feature to consider for the future. If you look ahead, the ability to empower users to handle their own restores could be a significant improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used Barracuda for about three years now, on and off. In my previous job, we also implemented it.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution has been stable for us.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Up to 500 users, it's been easy. If we were to go bigger, I'm not sure of the limits, but for now, it's working well. We've grown from 200 to 450 users with minimal effort.
In our environment, we have around 300 end-users. So, until now, the solution has been working for us.
How are customer service and support?
We have an engineer with Barracuda certifications in-house, so we haven't had much interaction with their support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We tested Veeam and some other products but found Barracuda the easiest to use, especially for incident recovery.
We evaluated three different products, and Barracuda stood out the most due to its user-friendliness, especially when it comes to restoring data after incidents. It's much easier compared to Veeam or any other solution we tested. Another key advantage is its granularity. For instance, if we only need to recover a single email or file, Barracuda makes it incredibly straightforward.
With Veeam or other tools, we'd have to restore entire folders or mailboxes and then search for the specific item before restoring it. With Barracuda, we can even manually recover a single email or file, like a PDF, directly from the backup. So, this product aligns perfectly with our needs, to put it that way.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was really straightforward. I have a technical background, but I could follow the entire implementation.
For the customer with around 300 users, we finished implementation within two days. And that includes testing and running simulations.
What about the implementation team?
We outsourced Barracuda's implementation. Now, with my own company, we've implemented it for another customer. I'm extremely happy with the product.
What was our ROI?
It's not really feasible when it comes to backups. But it gives my clients and myself some peace of mind, and that has some value as well. So, the ROI is good on the product.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is good. The feature-to-price ratio is good. I'm a happy Barracuda customer. While some solutions might be cheaper, we value quality and consider the time and effort needed to spend if the product has issues. Taking all that into consideration, the pricing is on point.
There are no additional costs to the standard license.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise you to make sure you have a plan. Compared to earlier projects that differed from Barracuda, I would make sure there is a plan. Maybe that's a mistake we made. We just connected the product to our Azure environment and ran the backup. We should have cleaned the environment first and had a proper scope of what was going to be backed up and what was not so that the backup didn't get cluttered from the start.
Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten.
