Microsoft Dynamics AX could improve by offering a cloud version and more reports on the costs.

This is considered by Microsoft as an older product and unsupported. Microsoft is urging its clients to move to Dynamics 365, which is going to be coming into the pipeline. While it's a great product, we know that there is no support anymore for it. The most important thing is to have compatibility with the business types. Microsoft is very rich and therefore it's possible for them to ensure it can apply to various areas. Microsoft needs more presence in our region to help with management and maintenance.

The product takes some training to get up to speed on all functionality and modules in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 ERP system. Some users complain that the interface is not very user-friendly. An improved interface with a user-friendly approach will be an improvement on the application. Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 ERP systems development and customizations can be quite expensive to implement. You will need to run some trials to ensure the application is the right solution for your organization's needs and budget. The cost of customization can be reduced by introducing DIY measures Its mobile app only works for Windows phones and does not offer all of its features. Some users experience difficulty connecting to some modules, functionality and tools while using the mobile app for Microsoft Dynamics AX. An improvement would be to create mobile versions for Androids and iOS devices.

Microsoft Dynamics AX can improve by having a more modern user interface. It should be more modular and dynamic. Additionally, the solution could be easier to connect with APIs with other technologies.

There are some critical issues that we couldn't fix or that we couldn't workaround to solve, but it's almost non-existent. At times there are issues related to reporting, sometimes with the integration between two or three modules, and sometimes to the logic itself. We are in Egypt, and in some cases, such as but not limited to HR, we have a unique profile. The problem, however, is not with the installation, but with the application itself. When it comes to business intelligence, I don't think it's a good business intelligence application. Give me a viewer and some Excel-based tools to create my report, but it's not a full business intelligence solution. In the next release, I would like to see better reporting and better integration between modules.

This solution could be improved with more expert resources and an easier implementation process.

Microsoft Dynamics AX could be improved by having more features available. We are going to 365 now, to use all the modules, because we found that there weren't many new things we were able to develop with AX. There were a lot of things that weren't available, so we are moving and integrating other things. The customization of upgrades should also be faster. We would also like to see more security features.

The biggest improvement needed with the solution is security control or rights control to internal users. There is much improvement needed in that product line. Gradual level controls were missing, or if we are allowed some controls, then it will automatically go to different ones. We cannot give proper controls or user rights to internal user sections. There is also slowness in database backup.

If I had to add something in the next release, it would probably be a mobile application for a sister application of Dynamics 365; not the ERP but the Dynamics 365 HR solution. It would definitely help if we could have Microsoft or a Microsoft partner introduce a mobile application for it.

I cannot recall finding a lack of features in any area. It's pretty great. There might be some features to support localizations that could be helpful to add.

The solution could be simplified and streamlined a bit. There should be more clarity and better functionality in the master planning features. It's not easy to set up. It would be ideal if the product was priced at a bit less. The solution in general just needs a few quality improvements. I'm finding that often on-premises versions are getting left behind and new features more often are getting prioritized for the cloud. It's my understanding that they are doing this to push clients over to the cloud.

They should include some modules related to solving customer problems or resolving support tickets from our customers — like a help desk for ERPs. I would like to have more attractive options to migrate our ERP to the cloud. There should be something to motivate us to migrate our on-premises installation into the cloud installation.

There is no Arabic interface in Microsoft Business Central, which is a big weak point. There is, however, an Arabic interface for Dynamics AX, but not Dynamics AX Business center. This is an area that needs to be focused on. In the next release, I would like to see an Indian-Arabic interface. Taxation may need some enhancements for vendors. They need a discount scheme for selling. Also, they need more features.

There are so many errors. For example, in some utilities, the procedure is basically for European countries and unsuitable for us. If we need to give somebody some utilities, like reports, we need to create some special reports in our environment. We need some standard utility where we're making purchase orders or something in the warehouse.

There should be the capability for users to enhance the application by using a low-code or no-code product from the Microsoft family. Scaling is complex and is something that can be improved. In the future, I would like to see more applications.

Flexibility with how it is used. For example, if you have a specific way of working, Dynamics AX may or may not accommodate that. Although it provides a whole solution you may have to adapt your working methods to suit the product, and not how you would like to work. Sometimes the data forms provided for specific retail applications are not adequate and do not provide enough functions as the product itself is not designed for the retail industry it is mainly designed for automotive companies and distribution companies although Microsoft tried to add a retail element into the system. The product is standardised across industries so it is not a good fit for all types of sectors.

The product is no longer going to be supported by Microsoft next year. For that reason, I do not think that they will improve anything. Putting that fact aside, I think that the whole IP module can be improved. They need to improve logging, tracking, and tracing service tickets, as well as reporting towards the customer. They need to create a customer portal where the customers can view and create their own tickets. That would be a lot of work to do for a product that Microsoft will no longer be supporting. I would suggest that Microsoft use a real top-class ITSM (IT Service Management) with the replacement product (Business Central) and then integrate that with Microsoft Dynamics rather than developing it themselves. Integrating a dedicated product will be better.

It needs better financials and reporting from the system, not through Excel.

I'm researching ERP tools. Any suggestions for how to go about comparing tools? I'm looking at SAP ERP, Oracle E-Business Suite, and Microsoft.  Thanks.

I think Panorama Consulting Group publishes some of their ERP shootouts comparing SAP/Oracle/Microsoft with Infor thrown in as a bonus.  Our firm is more of a boutique operation that compares internal company requirements then picks software known for its propensity to work well in those industries/environments. But if you get to the stage where you need some guidance on who some of the top partners and resources are for those software packages, hit us up.

Do you want to do it for a specific purpose or to tick a box?  Lets assume you are looking for system deployment. I would focus on the key areas of your business rather than what Gene has listed below, which is looking at point for point comparisons. (The Panorama report is SUPERB for getting up to speed....) Then look at weighting for specific key business differentiation opportunities - such as single global instance for multiple companies, integrated CRM into Finance and Operations, off-line capabilities for customer facing processes, seamless transfer of customer conversations from one channel to another. Then ask for client references to answer 5 key questions: - Are they live? - how was the deployment support from the OEM/partner and what was the % work split required to go live (as in your input vs partner vs OEM) - how many customisations were requried to achieve xxx (your key areas) - would they use the OEM again and what would they change going forward Then look at demonstration from the OEM and costing for the solution I would not go on a tender for each and every feature and function because we assume world class solutions have these typical areas covered. Happy to discuss how to do this practically if required. Daniel@liferocksconsulting.co.za

1. With respect, an analysis needs to start with the customer’s requirements (industry, revenue, headcount, geography, business goals, budget, timeline, risk assessment etc) before any meaningful analysis can be undertaken. 2. Why wouldn’t the Customer start with what’s already in the public domain (see below) AND 3. Why wouldn’t the Customer ask for each vendor to provide their own analysis of their product and the target competitor product, and then go from there with data sets 1. 2. and 3. respectively? httpsr://rsupply-chain-management.softwareinsider.com/compare/31-32/M3-Supply-Chain-Management-vs-SAP-ERP https://erp-systems.zone/system/infor-m3,sap-s4hana https://www3.technologyevaluation.com/store/top/sap-erp-vs-infor-m3-erp-comparison-report.html

I’m sorry, but I can’t actually comment on Infor Lawson M3 as I have no experience with that application. If there are specific questions pertaining to S/4HANA functionality, I would be happy to offer perspective.
