Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It has got all the features. You can restore a mailbox based on an email or a calendar or based on all the emails. A user can also get access to restore the mailbox.""Technical support in Veeam is good.""I want an additional copy of my data in the Office cloud and it works.""The installation process is very easy.""The feature that I like the most is the system backup recovery from OneDrive.""One of the valuable features is the ability to restore a specific email. For example, if a user has deleted an email and they would like that particular email back we are able to restore it.""This covers the areas of backing up Office 365 that Microsoft does not include in its standard routine.""The solution is easy to use and stable and can be made to fit one's needs."

"The granularity enables us to failover specific workloads instead of an all-or-nothing type of scenario, where you have to move your entire IP block and your data center, or you have to move large chunks of VMs. Those situations also make it prohibitive to test effectively.""The most valuable feature is the point in time recovery. This allows us to recover at any point in time, up to a minute or so.""The file restoration is very helpful. They've improved it over the years to make it a lot more user-friendly and easy to do, which I appreciate. So, we use that quite a bit. The failover process is quite simple and intuitive. Even the configuration and setup are pretty easy to do. It is pretty easy to use. I've done the restoration of servers several times, not as a disaster. When an upgrade on a server goes wrong and it messes things up, I can just fail back to a previous version and try it again. So, that has been really helpful.""The most important feature is that the recovery point (RPO) is less than one minute. The is really good for our customers, as they can keep their data loss to a minimum.""The most valuable features of this solution is the ease of use. In the event of a disaster, you don't need a technical person to actually run the software. You can bring anybody in, with the right instructions and credentials, and they can run the solution.""It's also very much faster than any other migration or disaster recovery platform we have. I work with virtualization, mostly on VMware, and I must admit that Zerto is even better than VMware Site Recovery Manager. Zerto compresses the data and it works much faster.""If we had to deal with a ransomware event, Zerto would be one of the first things I would use, because it is going to be the fastest to restore data to a certain point. If there were a fire in our building, Zerto would be a big thing too, because we would shut down everything that's in our building. In most cases, Zerto is definitely one of the front lines. It's definitely going to be one of our prevalent DRBC layers of protection.""Zerto provides our customers with the ability to continue work, even if something happens to their office or data center."

Cons
"It's hard to predict the usage on the storage. I need to make some estimates for customers in terms of how much storage will be needed on the cloud, and this is always tricky. It would be helpful if they could help us estimate storage or simplify the estimation portion.""This solution does provide the option to choose a different target of storage.""When you add a new site for backup, it gives you a notice that there is a new site, but the way you select that and configure that could be slightly better. It works, but it is not always very clear. For example, for the URL, you need to hover over the title or the name of the site. You should see it immediately on the screen. It should have a better user interface for selecting what you want to back up so that you get a more clear overview of the sites that are there and the ones that you want to combine in a backup. Its user interface should be more user-friendly. It has a lot of scrolling and doesn't give you a complete overview when needed. That's the main thing why it is not very user-friendly. It should have a better user interface.""Some additional training materials would be helpful.""They can provide a dashboard for sizing. This feature might get included in the next release.""We would like to have a single management console for all of our backups.""Its price could be improved.""Veeam's performance is inconsistent."

More Veeam Backup for Office 365 Cons →

"Some of the features need improvement. One would be, as you're creating a Move group or a VPG, as they call it, it should either autosave or have the ability so that you can save it for coming back to later because if the setup times out, you lose all your work. That would be a nice improvement to have.""The only issue I've ever had is that I wish that Zerto would work more closely with VMware. There have been a few times that Zerto has released an update but it wasn't supported with that version of VMware. I would like them to coordinate their updates with VMware's updates.""Long-term retention of files is a function that isn't available yet that I'm looking forward to them providing. The long-term retention is the only other thing that I think needs improvement.""Compared to other products, I would praise the intuitiveness of the product. But I think that can always be improved. The intuitiveness of the graphical user interface, while it is very solid and I don't have issues navigating it. I would say that it can always be improved.""It would be nice if we were able to purchase single licenses for Zerto. As it is now, scaling requires that we purchase a multi-pack.""With the VPG (virtual protected group) it would be nice if you could pick individuals in the grouping instead of having to failover the whole group.""The reporting could be improved in terms of the reports that you can show to auditors to prove that you have done the testing. I provide the reports that it generates now but, it would be great if, at the end of a DR test, it would generate a report of everything that Zerto did.""My only business complaint is the cost of the solution. I feel like the cost could be a tad lower, but we are willing to pay extra to get the Premium service."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing model makes this solution more expensive than it needs to be."
  • "This is not a stand-alone product and requires a standard Veeam license for your organization in addition to the cost of the solution."
  • "We looked at a few cloud options. When we did the comparison, we found it to be a cost-effective solution, and it included everything."
  • "The licensing price is quite high. It's expensive."
  • "We decided on Altaro because, from the point of view of the total cost, Altaro looks cheaper than Veeam. Veeam has a lot of costs that are not clear when you start it, which makes it less flexible than Altaro, but only after half a year, you can be really sure that you made a good decision."
  • "Its price is a little bit high, but it is a fantastic solution. It is more expensive than NetApp."
  • "I have a per-user license for the number of users and the mailboxes that I have."
  • "There is a license required for this solution and we pay annually."

  • "If it were easier to license, and to scale it out a little bit more economically, that'd be a godsend. At the end of the day, my druthers would be to have all 200 of our servers protected by this platform. But for a company our size, that stretches our IT budget and it just doesn't make economic sense."
  • "It's very equitable, otherwise you wouldn't do it. It's something that we utilize for the licenses per core as far as what we're backing up. Therefore, it's very cost-efficient as far as the licensing goes. For the amount of stuff that we're backing up and what we're utilizing it for, the licensing is not very expensive at all."
  • "There is a one-time cost for maintenance and support. We have a three-year contract that we will have to renew when those three years come up. There is also licensing on top of that for whatever product you are using it for."
  • "Zerto is more expensive than competitors, making the price difference pretty high. While it is very expensive, it's very powerful and good at what it does. The cost is why we are not leveraging it for everything in the organization. If it was dirt cheap, we would have LTR and DR on everything because it would just make sense to use it."
  • "It's not the cheapest tool, it's expensive. But it's doing a good job."
  • "I'd like to see better tiering for Zerto's pricing. We do multi-tier VMs. I don't think I should be paying a penalty and price for a tier-three VM where I don't need a really tight SLA like I do for a tier-one."
  • "Get the Enterprise Cloud license because it's the most flexible, and the pricing should come in around $1,000 per VM."
  • "This solution is far less expensive than SRM and NetBackup."
