The solution is scalable and affordable, but it lacks features, and it is not easy to manage
Management of RHEV is not as easy as VMware. Some features do not work. The product does not provide features similar to VMware’s VMotion. After creating the cluster, the VM is moved to another node if we move down. However, the VM does not move the parent node automatically. It has to be moved manually. VMware moves it automatically. RHEV moves it to the parent node only if we restart. Everything can be handled in VMware through the GUI. However, in RHEV, some things can be managed through UI, and others cannot. We have to troubleshoot and use CLI. A few features of the product do not work as well as those in VMware.

Efficiently manages development environments with robust network integration
I recommend new users download and evaluate the free version from VMware's website. Once satisfied, they should purchase the professional version for a smooth and secure IT infrastructure. The professional version is cost-effective, allowing one to create multiple servers on a single server. I'd rate the solution ten out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution has a good licensing module."
"Red Hat is the most stable system."
"The solution is a great all-round product. The virtualization is especially good."
"The price is the solution's most valuable aspect. It's much cheaper than, for example, VMware."
"One of the most valuable features of this solution is the popularity of the OS."
"The most valuable features of RHEV are all the tools, such as virtualization, management of cloud platforms, and integration of container environments. The solution has good compatibility between virtualization, content management, and cloud management. Having the full set of these tools is the advantage of it."
"There aren't any bugs on the solution."
"RHEV’s cost is much less compared to VMware."
"ESXi's server management capabilities are incredibly beneficial, as it supports software integration with Windows servers and other essential systems."
"The setup was relatively easy for me."
"VMware ESXi is a user-friendly solution that is easy to install and supports third-party applications and software."
"The software from GE Healthcare only needs the basic virtualization functions, such as creating VMs, adjusting the resources allocated to the VMs, making backups, restoring, etc."
"ESXi stands out for its simplicity in setup, management, and monitoring."
"The most valuable features are the integration with networking and virtual network switches."
"The most beneficial features for me are DRS and HA (High Availability). In case of an interruption at the OS level, they ensure the virtual machine automatically comes back up."
"It's pretty good and robust."

Cons

"The Administration of the Oracle database and the SAP ERP needs improvement."
"The documentation is not as good as it should be."
"It lags behind in that you need to go to something like Fedora to get all the extra bells and whistles."
"My teammates and I often complain that VMware is well-documented and has a large community since it is the de facto standard. I would love to see better documentation and ease of use."
"While everything needs improvement in some way, I have no specifics."
"Red Hat by itself is not scalable. But you can have third party add-ons like Ceph to make it massively scalable."
"The support is tricky in a few places. We're facing some challenges within Malaysia where we don't really have the system integrators available who can provide extended support. When we need personnel on-site, we can't get them."
"When we do a direct comparison, then obviously VMware does better in terms of having Fault Tolerance and doing active disaster recovery and these kind of things. This is something that can be improved within Red Hat."
"The pricing strategy could be improved."
"The cost of VMware ESXi is very high, especially after the acquisition by Broadcom, which led to price increases. Improving the cost structure would be beneficial."
"The solution's cost is a concern."
"There have been issues with the tool's technical support and pricing of licenses, making them areas where improvements are required."
"We often face issues with ESXi that require us to change resources by shutting down the VMs."
"It would be really helpful if there were options to do things in one or two clicks rather than doing everything through more manual interaction."
"The price point could be improved."
"The software could be more user-friendly, allowing customers to easily find the resources and features they need."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This product has a variety of licensing options available. However, the level of licensing, and therefore the cost of licensing, is dependent on the number of servers being utilized."
"Its price depends on the use cases."
"It's a budget product as far as I'm concerned. It's way cheaper than any of its competitors. The only thing cheaper than Red Hat is that the people who take the Red Hat code clone it and then self-support it."
"I believe we pay on a yearly basis."
"We have to pay extra for vulnerability and fault tolerance."
"I would say the price is acceptable."
"RHEV offers pricing based on a per-physical-machine licensing model."
"We are using the free version of Red Hat."
"VMware ESXi is a costly solution in Africa and other developing countries."
"I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
"If one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate the tool's price as an eight."
"The product pricing was reasonable before, but recent changes, including bundling, have complicated the cost structure."
"The tool has become expensive."
"Broadcom recently purchased VMware, and the pricing scheme has changed. If I need any more features in the tool, I can actually purchase them."
"The pricing is expensive, with the cost for customers ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 yearly."
"The solution is priced on the higher side."
