Secure remote access has protected critical data and now simplifies role-based user management
An area for improvement is the pricing model. The concurrent user licenses get expensive pretty quickly as your organization grows, so more flexible pricing options would be a huge plus. Another area is configurational disconnect. While the admin web UI handles about 90% of what you need, the moment you have to do deep, advanced routing customization, you still have to drop back to the command line interface to make those changes. It would be great to see those deeper configurations completely integrated into the web portal. Lastly, it would be awesome to see native support for newer, lighter protocols through WireGuard built straight into the platform alongside standard OpenVPN for better performance efficiency.

Efficient technical support with good synchronization features, but it needs better security
We would like to be to secure access to all of the servers for all of the internal workers and engineers. We would like to have tools that provide us with security for our servers. I would like to see an improved repository to better see the users. We have a new project that requires a lot of security we will not continue with SecureLink. The security features offered in SecureLink are not enough.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"OpenVPN Access Server has positively impacted my organization mainly through improved security for myself."
"The product has strong encryption and scalability features. It provides security for private network connections."
"I like that it's free."
"The initial setup was easy."
"Encrypted connections are, in all situations, better than unencrypted, so security is much better with OpenVPN."
"It was very easy to set up users."
"What I appreciate the most about OpenVPN Access Server is that it's very easy to set up."
"Highly configurable. You can create your own custom client installer and can rebrand the server-side program."
"The most valuable feature is synchronizing the limited access for partners or sub-contractors."
"Technical support is very efficient and very supportive."

Cons

"Regarding scalability, I find OpenVPN Access Server scalable with some caveats. However, sometimes your license disappears or gets wiped out when you scale the infrastructure, which can be quite annoying and requires reaching out to support to get set up again."
"If there was a Graphical User Interface to help streamline the configuration, I believe OpenVPN would probably venture more into the non-geek realm as it were."
"They may have this already, but it would be nice to be able to get more notifications if a site drops unexpectedly."
"It could include a configuration wizard so that users who do not follow instructions well can configure a connection."
"The stability of the OpenVPN Access Server has room for improvement."
"The upgrade path from older versions was more difficult than we wanted to tackle, so we ran an older version of the software for longer than I wanted. Patching, updating, and migrating to newer versions was a problem for us. That said, we were on a rather old version that I inherited yet it worked rock solid."
"For an infrastructure product, that is not acceptable."
"The security needs to be improved because it was a complaint that our customers had."
"The security features offered in SecureLink are not enough."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product offers yearly as well as monthly subscription plans. It has moderate pricing."
"One of the valuable features of OpenVPN is that it is free for a single user."
"I don't need to pay for its license since it is an open-source tool."
"Open VPN Access Server is open-source and free of charge."
"The solution was free of charge."
"Begin with the community version and upgrade to paid one if the need arises."
"At one point I had to purchase addition connection licenses. I was very pleased with the pricing and licensing; so much easier than navigating the confusing jungle of Microsoft and Cisco licensing and pricing. That alone made the product a delight to manage."
"The price point is fantastic since it is free."
"We are not happy with the recent increase in the price."
