Effective testing and good data management with seamless Excel integration
There are cases where the system does not meet our reporting requirements. For example, only the first user can click 'run' during testing, and subsequent users have to click 'continue manual run', which can create reporting errors. Improvements are needed so that the system can continue running without creating a new run.

An automation solution with good integration capabilities that needs to focus on providing an option for chain testing to its users
In our company, we need to maintain the scripts of the product daily, and in case of failures, we need to check out the scripts. I would recommend the product to those planning to use it based on both they are planning to build. If you are going for unit testing or small scripts, then you can go with SpecFlow. I don't have much experience with the solution. It is a good and straightforward product. It is also an easy-to-use and user-friendly product that can easily adapt to any framework. I rate the overall solution a seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"OpenText ALM Quality Center is highly customizable."
"What they do best is test management. That's their strong point."
"I like that it integrates with the Jira solutions."
"The test-case repository and linkage through to regression requirements will absolutely be a key component for us. We haven't got it yet, but when we've got an enterprise regression suite, that will be a key deliverable for them. We will be able to have all of the regression suite in one place, linked to the right requirements."
"Ability to customize modules, particularly Defect Tracking module on company specific needs"
"We can create a requirement for stability metrics with the test cases to ensure all requirements are covered."
"The ability to integrate this solution with other applications is helpful. If there is automation, it comes with improved quality and speed."
"Business process management is the most valuable feature of the solution."
"The initial setup is easy."
"One of the most valuable features of SpecFlow for us is its risk identification capabilities."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is unit testing...It is also an easy-to-use and user-friendly product that can easily adapt to any framework."
"SpecFlow's best feature is the ability to add additional layers to the programming."

Cons

"We are looking for more automation capabilities."
"Requirements management could be improved as the use is very limited. E.g., they have always stated that, "You can monitor and create requirements," but it has its limitations. That's why companies will choose another requirements management solution and import data from that source system into Quality Center. Micro Focus has also invested in an adapter between Dimensions RM and ALM via Micro Focus Connect. However, I see room for improvements in this rather outdated tool. I feel what Micro Focus did is say, "Our strategy is not to improve these parts within the tool itself, but search for supported integrations within our own tool set." This has not been helpful."
"There needs to be improvement in the requirement samples. At the moment, they are very basic."
"Certain applications within this solution are not really compatible with certain applications like ERP. The problem is when we're trying to use these applications or devices, the solution itself doesn't scale."
"It is pricey."
"ALM Quality Center could be improved with more techniques to manage Agile processes."
"ALM only works on Internet Explorer. It doesn't work on any other browser. In my opinion, Internet Explorer is generally a bit slower. I would like to see it work on Chrome or on other browsers."
"HPE ALM’s out-of-the-box reporting can be perceived as rigid and limited, to an extent."
"SpecFlow's installation and configuration can be a bit challenging due to its flexibility as an open-source tool."
"I'd prefer in TFS if we could be writing test cases, not in the old classical version. We should be writing in Gherkin and then automatically have it convert that Gherkin test case into SpecFlow feature files."
"Regarding improvement, it would be good if SpecFlow could provide chain testing, which it currently doesn't allow."
"SpecFlow would be improved with the addition of functionality reporting, which would be really helpful for automation testing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Only major companies that can afford it use OpenText ALM."
"For pricing, I recommend to buy a bundled package. Check the HPE site for more details."
"Pricing is managed by our headquarters. I am able to get from them for very cheap. The market price is horribly expensive."
"It allows us to keep our costs low. I do not want to pay beyond a certain point for this solution."
"It is very expensive as compared to other tools. We didn't get their premier version. It is a lesser version, and to upgrade, there will be an additional cost for us."
"We pay around $30,000 for thirty users, translating to approximately $6,000 to $10,000 per user, which is high."
"It's a perpetual license."
"Depending on the volume, the annual maintenance costs vary on a percentage but it's around $300 a year per license for maintenance. It's at 18% of the total cost of the license."
"SpecFlow is an open-source product."
"SpecFlow is open-source and free of charge."
