Panzura CloudFS and NetApp AltaVault are competitors in the data management space. Panzura appears to have an advantage with superior collaboration tools and enhanced usability through its single namespace integration. Meanwhile, NetApp focuses on storage efficiency and cost-effective cloud integration.
Features: Panzura CloudFS offers comprehensive data protection, efficient file synchronization, and strong collaboration features, which streamline workflows and increase network resilience. Its integration with cloud services and a single namespace enhances usability. On the other hand, NetApp AltaVault excels in data deduplication, seamless cloud service integration, and robust indexing, focusing on storage efficiency and portability.
Room for Improvement: Panzura CloudFS could improve its performance in international offices and reduce incremental licensing costs. It also needs enhancements in support, feature stability, and pricing plans. NetApp AltaVault has room for improvement in its integration capabilities, larger volume support, and user interface. Both need to refine performance, with Panzura focusing on customer experience and AltaVault on functionality expansion.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Panzura CloudFS is flexible for deployment in public and hybrid clouds, offering reliable customer service though some variability in response times is reported. NetApp AltaVault operates well across public, private, and hybrid environments, with consistent technical support, giving it a solid deployment support reputation.
Pricing and ROI: Panzura CloudFS offers pricing aligned with industry standards but can be high in some cases; however, users often experience significant operational efficiency and network resilience as ROI. NetApp AltaVault is similarly priced but provides flexibility through different payment models, aligning costs with its robust feature set and targeting various cloud and on-premise storage needs.
Previously, we had latency issues with syncing up files between offices. Files were not locked, leading to overwrites which cost us literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost time and revenue.
We saw the benefits of Panzura CloudFS immediately because our remote offices were able to share files immediately after the product went live.
Panzura CloudFS saves us a significant amount of time frequently.
The support staff and the number of people they have on staff right now are truly good.
When we have a priority-one issue, we typically receive a call within 20 to 30 minutes.
I would give the support for Panzura CloudFS a ten out of ten because they are responsive and helpful.
Unlimited users can access the system without issues.
From our original entry with Panzura CloudFS, we have added an additional seven sites, and deploying those additional nodes was very seamless and did not take any effort.
The latest version, 8.0.2, has better ease of decommissioning filers and bringing new ones online.
I would rate it a nine out of ten for stability.
We have never had their system crash on us.
There were times with file lock issues between filers, causing various anomalies, but with their ongoing development, these issues have improved.
When something goes wrong somewhere, there should be a little bit better alerting with issues before they become a big problem.
The GIS data formats, such as a geo database, have been found better kept outside of Panzura CloudFS.
It would have been nice if they had offered them in increments, of 5, 10, 15, or 20 terabytes than having to get a whole chunk of 25 terabytes again for licensing purposes, which is a little costly.
It did require us to purchase new hardware, however, that was not overly expensive.
They should consider more attractive pricing for companies of our size.
Overall, it is quite costly compared to NetApp and similar solutions.
There are different integrations available with NetApp AltaVault, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and I want to understand how they impact data security policies in my case.
It is very reliable and very quick.
It helps us increase network resilience. We have a primary object library stored in the cloud and have Panzura Mirroring which allows us to place data in a secondary cloud for added resiliency.
There is no degradation of speed because these filers have cached the data, and they are constantly swapping metadata and updating with each other, which is a very attractive method of getting us to use these applications.

NetApp AltaVault is a cloud-integrated storage solution created to increase recovery capabilities and lower cost and risks. It is better than traditional backup and recovery solutions because they are considerably slower, more expensive, risky, and can be too complex for the comprehension of many users. NetApp AltaVault solves issues related to backup, archival, and restoration. Compared to on-premises solutions, this software claims to be up to 90% less expensive while solving multiple issues related to data storage in the cloud. AltaVault presents three solutions to its customers: backup and recovery, cold storage and archives, and disaster recovery.
1. NetApp’s backup and recovery solution works with Kerne-Based Virtual Machine, Microsoft Hyper-V, and VMware vSphere, creating a solution for mid-sized businesses as well as for bigger companies that want to protect their offices in different locations. The usable local cache capacities of this solution range from 32TB to 383TB, providing clients with enough storage for their important data while giving them the option to retrieve it if something goes amiss.
2. NetApp AltaVault can be configured in cold storage mode and used for data that is not often used. The solution is scalable, thus allowing minimal costs for operating with cold data and allowing fast access to it at the same time.
3. AltaVault offers disaster recovery for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. Your data will be secured on the cloud, providing you with a secure backup if the need for disaster recovery arises.
