Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Microsoft BI is better than most solutions we have. It's pretty easy to conduct analysis with it.""The best feature for me is Power Query. I know that probably sounds strange, but you can't do too much with visuals and reports if the backend stuff is horribly dirty and just bad. But for me, that is absolutely fantastic. I can load the data and do the transformation and be able to load it in a useful way. There are tons of connections, which is absolutely fantastic as well. It's been fairly easy, and it's intuitive.""The most interesting feature of Microsoft Power BI is that it's very user-friendly.""The stability is good.""The solution is quite scalable.""The most valuable feature is that it's easy to use. It's very useful for non-engineers and it is the ultimate solution for providing information and insights. Power BI is the best visualization tool I have ever worked with.""The dashboards of Microsoft BI are easy to use.""The amount of customization that you can do is good, and it's relatively straightforward to do."

Cons
"The reporting could be a bit better.""The orchestration module for refreshing data flows is something that is missing and we have to do it manually.""The UI looks awkward once the graphs have been generated in the console. This is what Microsoft can work on.""A lot of people work on Excel, so being able to export an Excel file as part of a subscription would be an improvement.""Some kind of expression wizard, where the user can build a complex expression without any knowledge of DAX, can be a good addition to the product.""The only concern I have faced with Microsoft BI is the time it takes to find out an issue and rectify it.""I have a little problem with Synapse Analytics because it's very new. It's a product that has many capabilities, but it is not very well developed. I have to see the list of permissions from one object. I can't do this in Synapse. I have to search on the web for a solution because I don't have the tool for it.""I would like Microsoft to include some inbuilt machine learning so that it becomes point-and-click, rather than us developing models out of API and BI connecting to that and getting the results. That process gets in the way of continuity."

"A real improvement would be a simpler system that allows users to play with the visualization without needing specialized skills and code."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is somewhere in the middle in terms of price. Licensing is quite clear."
  • "Its cost seems to be unreasonable if you have many users, but for a lesser number of users, it is reasonable. It is $10 per month. Clients easily accept this option, so they must think it is reasonable. It is quite cheap as compared to other tools, such as Tableau. One of the best things about this solution is that it has a trial version."
  • "Once the trial period for the BI service is over, the cost is approximately $10 USD per user, per month, so it's quite reasonable."
  • "The pricing is very reasonable compared to any other tool."
  • "Microsoft BI is not very cheap. A premium license costs roughly 5,000 euros a month."
  • "This product offers good value for the money."
  • "Microsoft BI is free for the personal edition, but there is also a paid-for professional version."
  • "Setup is easy, and the cost is economical. You do sometimes need to pay additional costs for third party products which "plug-in" to Microsoft BI."
