Has supported smooth channel partner integration and data analysis for several years
We use the existing services hosted in Microsoft Azure API Management without making any changes. For transformation capabilities, we utilize ADF, Data Factory instead of Microsoft Azure API Management. Regarding security features in Microsoft Azure API Management, we utilize token bearer authentication. As retailers with integration to our channel partners, we haven't experienced any security issues with Microsoft Azure API Management since it isn't exposed to external parties. We use a basic Azure function hosted in Microsoft Azure API Management rather than the integrated developer portal. Tracking analytics and performance analytics in Microsoft Azure API Management is straightforward. We use basic features for performance analytics and log analytics due to additional subscription charges. We enabled log analytics for Microsoft Azure API Management in the past month to investigate issues such as unreachable endpoints or request timeouts.

Provides robust security for financial transactions and protects the ERP database from direct exposure
My main feedback is about the account management. I feel they should connect with clients more frequently, beyond just selling the product. They should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products. My main suggestion is focused solely on the account management approach, specifically fostering closer and more proactive client relationships. So, the pricing could also be bit improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is secure and has all the components that we require."
"Without a doubt, it has a very robust, strong marketplace where we can directly integrate with existing APIs and begin working on those."
"I would recommend this solution for some small and medium-sized projects, as it is quite easy and effective to start with."
"Microsoft Azure API Management is a good, comprehensive solution for enterprise implementation."
"The most valuable feature of Microsoft Azure API Management is monitoring. When compared with Apigee, I prefer Microsoft Azure API Management."
"I like API Management's ability to do hybrid cloud stuff."
"It's really easy to use for simple passthrough APIs."
"The major point is that if the API has a lot of issues, particularly in data silos, Microsoft Azure API Management has made it more convenient to manage those."
"It has helped us to better organize, control and monitor the APIs across the solution landscape in the enterprise."
"The initial setup isn't overly difficult."
"It is very secure, easy to manage, and easy to configure. It is a web-based API. Moreover, we get direct support from Oracle guys."
"The security, the authentication, and the publishing qualities are great."
"We've found it to be very stable."
"The product has been very easy to use."
"The most valuable features for us are security and centralization."

Cons

"The product needs to introduce a developer portal."
"Technical support could be more helpful and responsive."
"Microsoft is huge, and when it comes to support, it's not so great as compared to, if you have something software specific. Whenever you ask them a question, they assume you to know everything."
"Microsoft Azure API Management could improve by having better integration with third-party solutions. In an upcoming release, there should be more focus on API lifecycle management, such as MuleSoft provides and the API gateway is not comprehensive enough, we need to put a lot of extra effort doing manual work."
"Azure is our most expensive resource; it's costly."
"There is a limitation of 32 kb of data in the APIs. Having the limitation increase would be a benefit."
"The portal where we publish the APIs could be improved. I worry there is potential for a security breach in the API publishing."
"It could be more user friendly for developers. It would be nice if developers could view things more easily."
"Before gaining experience with the product, I found that it was not simple to use and things took longer to do than I had anticipated."
"From an administration and developer point of view, the user interface and user experience are not great."
"The cost of the solution is very high. It's not very cheap."
"Oracle needs to improve on access to technical documentation."
"We'd like it if they could reduce the cost without sacrificing on features."
"Oracle should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products."
"Although it is working great for us at the moment, we don't enjoy its user-interface. The UI is based on an old approach and needs an overhaul to modernize the UI and user interaction."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Compared to other solutions the cost is a seven out of ten."
"The licensing cost for Microsoft Azure API Management is publicly available and goes from a developer edition that costs $26 to $30 per month. It may have changed, but it's in the neighborhood of $30 per month. I believe there's also the enterprise edition, which is highly capable and costs $2,500 per month."
"Microsoft is competitively priced."
"There are additional costs to the standard licensing fees."
"It's free for less than ten users. If you want to go beyond that, it's around $3.50 per user per month. If you want a DevOps integration, it's about $7.50 per user per month. Costs depend on the size, complexity, usage, and what facility you want to integrate. So, we use Microsoft Azure and have the entire DevOps and Visual Studio on the cloud. We get all three flavors for $7.50 per user per month."
"Since everyone is isocentric here, it is reasonable for me."
"The price is comparable."
"Azure is a pay-as-you-go model. You build out your virtual environment and pay a monthly price depending on CPU cores, storage, etc."
"Oracle is not a cheap solution and it is not affordable for all of our clients in Portugal."
