The main drawback is there is less documentation available, both public documentation and partner-available documentation. The learning materials are very limited, and there is also a limitation of support SLA. It takes a huge amount of time to resolve certain issues when ManageEngine OpManager technical support gets involved. The expertise of support is limited. Reporting could be improved with more details. The content and richness can be improved on the reports. To make ManageEngine OpManager a better product, the first priority is improving the after-sales support and learning materials for local engineers and partners to enhance their capacities and expertise. The second priority is improving the product itself, including dashboards and reporting enrichment. Lastly, new feature adoption such as DLP or endpoint monitoring should be considered. Features that should be offered include DLP, Privileged User Access, data classification, and MDR. These are features that can be groomed around the MMS if properly configured.

Flexible device polling times and extensible modules are key features for me
There are lots of reasons why I'm using it. The installer itself is basically something that can be used as a no-questions-asked type of installer. I can use it with automation tools like Chef and Puppet. I don't have to answer some random questions. I can worry about all that stuff later on in the configuration. It allows for variable polling times of devices on the network. Because it's all in text, in general, that obviously makes it easier from the automation perspective as well, to modify configuration on the fly, using Puppet and those kind of tools. It does have different modules, so you can extend the solution as you need it, or get as little as you need in the beginning, so you don't have to buy a full set of modules. You just buy what you need and expand later on.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Some of the useful features are NetFlow and analytics."
"The alerting feature has improved our organization, as we can create multiple alerts and refine them to how we need to use them."
"However, once this product is tailored and organized according to their needs, then it is very stable and reliable."
"ManageEngine OpManager is user-friendly and easy to use. Additionally, useful for basic monitoring."
"The application monitoring is the solution's most valuable feature."
"The product itself is very good."
"We use ManageEngine OpManager to monitor our link status, latency, and errors."
"Flexibility in the two view dashboard helps viewers and admins get the information they need about the fetwork in a flash."
"The big thing is the event management engine, which is really, really nice to use, and it comes at a reasonable price, unlike some of the competitors like Netcool from IBM. Those kinds of tools are hugely expensive and they come as resource-heavy types of solutions. This obviously doesn't require as much hardware, but it does offer similar benefits where you can manage all the events."
"The installer itself is basically something that can be used as a no-questions-asked type of installer. I can use it with automation tools like Chef and Puppet. I don't have to answer some random questions. I can worry about all that stuff later on in the configuration."
"It does have different modules, so you can extend the solution as you need it, or get as little as you need in the beginning, so you don't have to buy a full set of modules. You just buy what you need and expand later on."
"It allows for variable polling times of devices on the network. Because it's all in text, in general, that obviously makes it easier from the automation perspective as well, to modify configuration on the fly, using Puppet and those kind of tools."
"In my case, I prefer to only poll interfaces that have descriptions, and the ones that don't have descriptions, I don't really want to know about them. It does allow for all these bits and pieces and adjustments, and fine tuning to get it to a point where it works for my needs."
"I think it compares very well to all the solutions in what it offers, and also I think compared to some of them, it is much more reliable."

Cons

"The storage level monitoring needs improvement. It needs storage level monitoring on the server itself. That feature is lacking right now."
"OpManager is slow but that just might be the server we have it on."
"Support is very bad. They should improve support and customer relationship."
"I would like to see more enhancements made to the product. This would be better because compared to other products, the vendor is very slow at enhancing the solution."
"This product is little bit slow sometimes."
"If you have a ton of devices, it might slow down a bit."
"The support of ManageEngine OpManager could improve. We had two issues and the support was not able to solve our issue."
"There should be an option to get mobile notifications or SMS mirror notifications for critical issues. That way, when we don't have access to email, we can still receive notifications via our phones."
"These kinds of solutions are more node- or device-based solutions. It would be nice in the future if they could be more data-oriented, so it would be easier for me to pull different stats based on ad-hoc requirements; but in a big, centralized database where I can pull specific things, and mix and match the way I want to."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"As far as cost, it was around six hundred thousand rands ($40,500) for the year, for the renewals. That's the total cost for a four thousand node system including support and maintenance."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"ManageEngine OpManager is cheaper than SolarWinds."
"The price for ManageEngine OpManager is average."
"The product is not worth the money."
"The solution's licensing costs are yearly and based on the number of applications."
"The solution is highly affordable"
"It is reasonably priced."
