Cloud data catalog has streamlined lineage and quality while leaving more automation to improve
I have not explored IDMC's automation capabilities driven by AI and metadata too much at the moment, but it is on the cards. We are basically creating the foundation, as the whole migration has taken place recently and it is still early days. I think Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) is evolving, and as the vendors move forward, they pick up new concepts from each other. I have seen that products leapfrog each other, and from my experience over the years, the big players tend to copy features or add enhancements based on industry trends. I feel whatever the tool does not have now, there is a feedback loop allowing us to request new features, and we continually ask for different ways to do things as we have a pipeline into the product management team. It is difficult to say what additional features I would prefer to see in the next release of IDMC. I would appreciate more automation on the lineage front, with more AI to seamlessly join independent sources and create seamless lineage between different technologies, such as from file into database A into a different database and landing up in a reporting system such as Cognos, Qlik, Qlik Sense, QlikView, or Power BI.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature for me is the easy interface; it has a great look and feel, and the functionality is so easy."
"Informatica comes with a predefined data model which is the way in which you enrich your products, acting not only as master data but also as a product enrichment tool, providing flexibility with an undefined number of attributes that define a product and the ability to plug it in with any e-commerce website."
"It has improved our organization because it has made our data more reliable. Data is the most important asset these days, and in order to trust your data, you need these tools to make sure that your data is clean and reliable."
"The feature I found most valuable in Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services is the mapping. You just drag, and it maps the data. Mapping is very easy, and it's no code. When you migrate data or when the data interaction happens at the source and destination, the challenge is that you'll get different formats. The validation has to be done in the middleware, and the transformation should happen. In Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services, it's very easy to do data validation and transformation compared to any other tool."
"The data quality component is very good."
"New tools are coming out that will enable you to achieve 90 percent of use cases with the out-of-the-box configuration, but I would like to keep Informatica tight here. Otherwise, you need a Java user edit course and other things to do multiple things that you cannot configure out of the box. They have to go through those use cases to do something if those can also be configured rather than coded."
"It has all the advantages of the Cloud in that you can use it without worrying about infrastructure, upkeep, or upgrades, and Informatica is in charge of all those things."
"I think the integration feature is probably one of the key features in Informatica MDM...Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"The data cleansing and standardization it offers, and near real-time response, has helped us in our credit decisions for underwriters, thereby getting the right customer onboarded."

Cons

"In terms of data volume processing, Intelligent Cloud Services does not match the efficiency of Power Center."
"The main issue probably has nothing to do with end users, but installation can definitely be simplified."
"Performance issues can be looked at Improved release documentation is expected because I feel that the current release document doesn't give you the clear picture of what has been fixed and what has not been fixed from previous versions."
"The initial setup was not very straightforward. Not complex, but not very simple either."
"I would like to see support for more data sources."
"The cost of Informatica MDM is expensive and has room for improvement."
"Its look and feel needs improvement. It has a lousy look and feel."
"A general improvement in icons and the virtual interface would be good."
"Having the solution in big data technologies is something Posidex is working on."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"The pricing model is something that can be improved."
"It is cost effective and an easily accessible tool."
"You can purchase licenses for this solution at different intervals. For example, annually or every three years. They recently changed their terms for licensing and now it is more flexible."
"Informatica MDM's price could be lower."
"Informatica MDM is very expensive. Apart from licensing fees, they have broken down their products into multiple products, and they charge for each and every product. If the data is huge, they charge for the data. At times, we have to use third party services for data cleaning, and they charge for that as well."
"The price is comparable."
"Informatica MDM recently changed its pricing model. It's usage-based but I don't have much insight into the current pricing."
