By capturing performance issues when they happen, we do not miss crucial data
* Indexing and locking analyses * The ability to generate optimize scripts. * The prioritized recommendations are nice to have. Furthermore, you can have multiple scans archived when comparing the tracing from a baseline perspective. Two scans can give us insights concerning the difference between a good and a bad situation.

Performance issues have been identified and monitored effectively during peak hours
The weaknesses I would like to address in Oracle Enterprise Manager involve the dealing of Grid Infrastructure. Oracle Enterprise Manager's handling of Grid Infrastructure needs some improvement. I want to see additional features in the future that deal with security in relation to Oracle Grid Infrastructure. I want to improve these two components.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is the perfect first action that we can take with the help from our service desk!"
"You can have multiple scans archived when comparing the tracing from a baseline perspective. Two scans can give us insights concerning the difference between a good and a bad situation."
"One of the most valuable features of Oracle Enterprise Manager has been the preventive reporting capability."
"I would recommend learning and using OEM right away; it will cut down the time put in by DBAs a lot by using OEM."
"It's a standardized GUI tool, which is very good and pluggable with automatic connection to an Oracle database, in comparison with any other GUI tools available in the market."
"The most valuable features are security and speed."
"We need 99.9995 uptime, and Oracle Enterprise Manager helps us to achieve this goal with its superior monitoring and management capabilities."
"I like that it's stable."
"From my point of view, I've found OEM to be one of the easier products to deal with; it's the product that I use day in daily to view all of my databases, and the fact that I can actually integrate multiple databases and multiple middleware solutions into one single point is perfect for me, so I'm really happy with it."
"It's very insightful when it comes to what you can check healthwise on a database."

Cons

"SQL Doctor should be improved in Availability Groups, mirroring, and clustering analyses. We mostly see index and query plan analyses. It should be broader than this."
"What I would love to see in Enterprise Manager is more support for the hardware, more support for Bare Metal."
"It's quite user-friendly when integrating, but when propagating user access and agents, it's not so intuitive."
"I would probably like to see more plug-ins to manage even more heterogeneous types of resources."
"The tool's pricing is costly."
"Easier to read. For example, on the home page of information, under Adm, that should be a little bit easier to read."
"I think with the documentation there could be improvements."
"With any Oracle protocol, and Enterprise Manager is one of them, as far as the interface is concerned, it's not good and is still pretty ugly."
"Setting up provisioning can be challenging. Also there are a lot of bugs and some specific to platforms."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Based upon 3 days of implementation by a single person, plus licensing costs would be approximately $60,000, including the virtualized hosts."
"As with all Oracle products, care should be taken when using any features to ensure that they do not activate licensed features that have not been paid for."
"Oracle Enterprise Manager is a free tool from Oracle."
"Initially, our deal was for three years, and we extended it to five years. Oracle solutions are very costly."
"Oracle Enterprise Manager is a free-of-cost solution. Oracle Enterprise Manager can be expensive only if you go for its licensing part."
"The basic functions are free. You only pay license fees for advanced features."
"The licensing is the responsibility of our customers."
"Be careful to only enable the packs for which you have a license as this is an issue we see time and again."
