Ease of use in data center boosts resilience and infrastructure efficiency
I find the HPE 3PAR StoreServ valuable for its ease of use and resilience, which is beneficial. The main benefits I have seen from having HPE 3PAR StoreServ include its use at a small branch I managed for about three years with around 60 users. It operates effectively because it is an HPE product we use there. I have not experienced any significant issues besides occasional IT-related ones, such as local database problems. Since handing over the administration of the system to someone else and moving to another department, there have not been any issues. There are many features that exist but I haven't needed to try. Before moving out of that role in my organization, I knew it was a product I enjoyed working with for infrastructure purposes. After completing my new role, I intend to return to infrastructure.

An entry-level, flash-based storage system designed for enterprise-class applications
It took significantly longer to set up the solution with Huawei compared to other options. But when creating servers for VMware virtualization in one data center, it was a relatively quick process. The Huawei's solution, even with the assistance of an engineer, took more than one month, possibly extending to two months. Chinese engineers were involved in the process, which contributed to the delays.

Pros

"It has improved uptime, as well as speed to delivery."
"It's probably the most cost-effective, value-for-money system for the mid-market."
"Don’t have any second thoughts and just go with it, as it is really a great product and should fulfill most business needs while being easy to use."
"The command line is very extensive, a lot of tools so in comparison to other vendors. It's one of the great things about 3PAR, that you can really drill down on performance, get statistics, really know how your system is internally performing."
"The product has definitely improved throughput, as we are able to more efficiently see patients because all of our medical records and practice management software seems to run faster, uploading images and charts is a lot faster, recalling information in the exam rooms is faster, and the overall throughput of data going back and forth helps increase our patient flow so we can see patients a lot faster, getting them in and out a lot more quickly."
"We choose 3PAR for its speed. It's so fast and reliable."
"We have not used tech support often, but when we have, they have been clear with us."
"IOPS, reliability and the value that it adds to our organization are the most valuable features."
"The storage capacity is really one of the most valuable features. Also, the GUI is very friendly and the switches gives high performance. The technology used in storage is RAID which as helped us a lot to expand and store various items ."
"It has many options for scalability, and it is stable."
"It has many options for scalability, and it is stable."

Cons

"We would like to see the ability to not only be integrated with hybrid IT, but on-prem."
"We did a firmware upgrade, and it brought the whole sandbox down. It was supposed to be done transparently, and that did not happen. It was not like we did it on our own; we had support set it up for us."
"If it were easier for us to manage the product ourselves without having to get HPE to connect, because it sometimes it does take a bit to get the scheduling worked out with the HPE support."
"It increased performance for a while, but then, as we grew, and we did not grow significantly, performance dropped down."
"I would like to have single click upgrades because the process is cumbersome right now."
"The solution could improve by being more secure."
"Majority of the day to day management can be done via the GUI, but certain functions have to be setup via the command line interface such as AFC."
"I need flexibility for interoperability across multiple platforms, not just HPE."
"The call charges and the management cost should be more friendly. They can also include monitoring and management."
"The handling of data deletion and bulk servers setup could have been more straightforward and easier when dealing with data removal or setting up servers. I believe Huawei could enhance their solutions, especially managing storage, to provide a better experience for customers."
"The call charges and the management cost should be more friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is lower in price as compared to other vendors, such as Dell. As compared to Huawei, all storage solutions are expensive, including this one."
"The solution has two parts: software and hardware, and you need to buy licenses for some features."
"The SSD is a little bit expensive."
"I have to renew support in October for the existing solution. That will cost me roughly $50,000 this year, which in the grand scheme of things, $50,000 is not that much compared to paying $850,000. However, it will be the last year that I'll be able to get direct support from HPE. Therefore, product has to be replaced in 2020."
"Our licensing cost are $32,000 annually."
"It is fairly inexpensive to scale."
"HPE 3PAR StoreServ is an expensive solution."
"As a school, we always have low budgets. We are a nonprofit organization. We do not have too much budget, so we care about prices, discounts, and especially about the product quality. The last 16 years, we have been an HPE customer. We are very much happy with HPE products."
"The installation is expensive as they often come as a comprehensive package. The design is more integrated, and everything is bundled together as part of the solution. This is what contributes to the higher cost of their solutions because when you purchase one element, it often comes with additional features and components, and you end up paying for the entire package."
"It is cheaper than other solutions."

Measuring Up: EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR
Leading up to EMC World 2015, IT Central Station asked how I would compare EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR. Until recently, the flash storage conversation in my organization and many others has centered on XtremIO and Pure Storage, the leaders of the all-flash array (AFA) space. To that end, I've written a…
