Ease of use in data center boosts resilience and infrastructure efficiency
I find the HPE 3PAR StoreServ valuable for its ease of use and resilience, which is beneficial. The main benefits I have seen from having HPE 3PAR StoreServ include its use at a small branch I managed for about three years with around 60 users. It operates effectively because it is an HPE product we use there. I have not experienced any significant issues besides occasional IT-related ones, such as local database problems. Since handing over the administration of the system to someone else and moving to another department, there have not been any issues. There are many features that exist but I haven't needed to try. Before moving out of that role in my organization, I knew it was a product I enjoyed working with for infrastructure purposes. After completing my new role, I intend to return to infrastructure.

An entry-level, flash-based storage system designed for enterprise-class applications
It took significantly longer to set up the solution with Huawei compared to other options. But when creating servers for VMware virtualization in one data center, it was a relatively quick process. The Huawei's solution, even with the assistance of an engineer, took more than one month, possibly extending to two months. Chinese engineers were involved in the process, which contributed to the delays.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"From a management standpoint of the arrays, they work really well, they handle a lot of data and, overall, it lowers the complexity of our storage infrastructure."
"This is a stable solution."
"3PAR's product team has demonstrated a level of ambition and advancement over the past year that makes me happy to endorse the product and organization behind it."
"We switched because of the performance and cost of 3PAR was better than our previous solution."
"With 3PAR, that problem doesn't exist -- you just keep adding to it and capacity grows in a nice, linear fashion."
"HPE 3PAR StoreServ is easy to use and has good performance."
"We're able to move things around with more agility. I can take it off one server and slap it on another in a couple of minutes... And the speed is outstanding."
"The main reason behind procuring HP products is that the suppliers are located nearby."
"It has many options for scalability, and it is stable."
"The storage capacity is really one of the most valuable features. Also, the GUI is very friendly and the switches gives high performance. The technology used in storage is RAID which as helped us a lot to expand and store various items ."
"It has many options for scalability, and it is stable."

Cons

"The support at HPE is not great, but it is good."
"I want artificial intelligence. I don't want anybody from my team to touch it anymore. I want the AI to do everything."
"I would like to see NVMe support, not only on the disk side, but also in the NVMe over Fibre Channel."
"We have had a few issues with it. We had our virtual environment lock up a few times on storage-based things. We think we have it sorted out, but maybe it came down to a configuration issue on it."
"I would like to see a more stable deduplication because with the deduplication we have right now, the percentage that we can save is not as high as we hoped for."
"I would like to see more cloud-based integrations and more file storage capabilities."
"The initial setup was complex in that requirements were not communicated well through the VAR and some parts needed to be sent back (PDU’s were of the wrong type) and the VAR assumed a Virtual Storage manager would be used, but a physical manager was both requested and required, which created an installation delay while the correct equipment was shipped."
"The tool needs improvement in the utilization report at the granular level."
"The handling of data deletion and bulk servers setup could have been more straightforward and easier when dealing with data removal or setting up servers. I believe Huawei could enhance their solutions, especially managing storage, to provide a better experience for customers."
"The call charges and the management cost should be more friendly. They can also include monitoring and management."
"The call charges and the management cost should be more friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For the price that we were able to acquire it, we have seen it give us the performance and stability that we require to run our enterprise."
"We purchased the solution as CapEx and we only pay support now. I find the pricing fantastic."
"This solution is expensive. We pay every year for support. It's a lump sum because we pay for data center support services, and everything is included in one."
"The solution's price is reasonable."
"It is a little more money, but it is worth it because it does it better."
"I rate the tool's pricing an eight out of ten. It is expensive."
"We are going to buy eight nodes this year and eight nodes next year. Eventually, we are not going to want to buy large storage devices and probably utilize just storage, but in a different manner going forward."
"We paid for five years of support when we purchased the product."
"The installation is expensive as they often come as a comprehensive package. The design is more integrated, and everything is bundled together as part of the solution. This is what contributes to the higher cost of their solutions because when you purchase one element, it often comes with additional features and components, and you end up paying for the entire package."
"It is cheaper than other solutions."

Measuring Up: EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR
Leading up to EMC World 2015, IT Central Station asked how I would compare EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR. Until recently, the flash storage conversation in my organization and many others has centered on XtremIO and Pure Storage, the leaders of the all-flash array (AFA) space. To that end, I've written a…
