Daily transcription has boosted my productivity and made spoken input replace manual typing
The best features Hex offers are simplicity and being really lightweight. Simplicity and being lightweight are valuable for me because it just works, making my day easier. I would also add that Hex is free, which is a nice feature. Hex has positively impacted my organization by improving my productivity. My productivity improved because before I started using Hex, I was typing everything and it was taking longer than just saying the same things. I have cut my working day by a few minutes every day because of that.

Reporting has improved with strong administration tools but performance and memory still need work
Compared to the new tools, MicroStrategy is still on the old mechanism, the attributes and metric creations that are still a bit vague compared to other tools. They can actually improve on the go, having derived metrics or derived attributes in MicroStrategy. If they have something like that for the attributes as well, it will be good. A pain point is MicroStrategy memory fluctuations that we couldn't actually read that much. If they can improve that performance, that would be great. MicroStrategy struggles a bit with large data volumes, but they are coming up with new ideas. They have moved to Intelligent Cubes, which can actually handle better data handling. They are coming up with good measures to handle big data.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Hex offers excellent features that make it fast and easy to use."
"Hex has positively impacted my organization by improving my productivity."
"Working as a BI Consultant, I have to develop different analyses, reports and dashboard documents to analyze the status of different business measures."
"We use MicroStrategy as an integrated solution with some of their other CRM type applications."
"MicroStrategy's biggest advantage is its metadata, which is the building block of the tool and holds the foundation of the business, helping in scalability, organizing objects, and enhancing dashboard and report performance."
"It definitely impacts people, who are excited to use it."
"I think one of the greatest things about MicroStrategy is their holistic approach to business intelligence."
"Project Schema/metadata- Very flexible, connects to a variety of different data sources and is very flexible for many specific tasks. Attributes/metrics/filters created once used by everyone."
"It was easy to install and implement a report with it."
"In the past, when we had so many legacy systems, with Cognos and others, it was took multiple steps to get what we wanted. Now, it's a seamless integration. We can connect directly, in the form of In-Memory Cubes or live-publish cubes, to the data warehouse, and blend in the data with big data. Not only relational databases, but we can also integrate other third-party files, and create a single-source software."

Cons

"Hex can be improved if they could implement new models because there are new LLMs appearing on a weekly basis, and they are still using the same one."
"MicroStrategy's mobile dashboard is still not a RESTful design."
"Getting our data to work with the tool is where we are having issues."
"MicroStrategy customer support including premium support is pretty bad in handling product level question or defects, which leads to lots of dissatisfaction for a customer."
"It crashes multiple times for even small changes that I make on the fly in the dashboard. After doing all the necessary changes, the MicroStrategy desktop or even the web version kicks the users out, and all the changes are lost. This functionality is buggy in MicroStrategy. It is hard to keep track of all the changes that I have done before. I don't want to make copies of each change that I have made because I would end up creating a hundred dashboards. It is not feasible in a real environment. I haven't worked on integrating MicroStrategy with the cloud. I am not sure how it behaves in the cloud, but I have heard from a few of my friends that there are some hiccups when you kind of sync to the cloud through MicroStrategy."
"They need to improve on distribution services. There are lack of features which were there earlier with Narrowcast, but they are not there in the distribution services."
"Training would be an area that they could improve upon, but otherwise it is a pretty good tool."
"The solution lacks good visualization. They should work on the user interface to make it more slick and modern."
"I prefer the capabilities of a single platform, but it does not always work. We are a huge company. Some areas do not use MicroStrategy, so you have to blend whatever systems they are using together to get the data points that you are looking for."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I am unsure what the licensing costs are for this solution however, development costs are around $100,000 per year."
"We are waiting to switch to Microsoft Power BI because MicroStrategy is too costly."
"The price of MicroStrategy is reasonable."
"The pricing list itself is not publicly accessible, so it's a bit opaque."
"They need to work on their license structure. They are not competitive against somebody like SAP BusinessObjects. We had a quote that was almost a third the price, coming from SAP BusinessObjects, and it's not a better platform. It's not cheaper. They do concurrent user licensing, while MicroStrategy does named user licensing, and that was literally the only difference. But it made a $500,000 difference. They've got to do something to make themselves more competitive. Maybe it's assessing your business users and what you really expect them to use, and maybe giving a reduced price on that. But they are already giving us a 60% discount and they were still a million or so above, over a three-year time period. That doesn't account for synergies as we get from on-site resources that are already available, but I thought that that was a big, big deficit for them."
"They offer yearly as well as perpetual licenses."
"They can improve its licensing. It is a bit expensive as compared to Microsoft and other tools."
"We have one of the best pricing available, but we can't disclose that information."
