Unified API gateway has reduced tool sprawl and has improved traffic control and observability
I give Gloo Platform a rating of 10 out of 10 because I genuinely appreciate it; it has all the features and requirements that I need. I give it a 10 because it fits my use case perfectly, enabling me to achieve my objectives, and I genuinely appreciate the Gloo Platform community and the people there. Regarding Gloo Platform's AI capabilities, I find them beneficial because they recently added agentic features and many AI capabilities that I find helpful. The accuracy and reliability of Gloo Platform's AI features is mostly consistent, although sometimes it does experience hallucinations. If you need a solution that provides management for your APIs along with features such as rate limiting, mTLS, and other functionalities, I would recommend Gloo Platform; it is truly excellent. I rated this review 10 out of 10.
Integration capabilities excel and support for varied platforms enhances communication across backend systems
We mainly use REST APIs, and the solution's integration capabilities are excellent. It allows communication with a number of back-end providers and data consolidation. The flexibility to develop APIs for various platforms, from front-end applications to ATM machines, is valuable. Code changes and migration are straightforward, and it supports identity and access management integration.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Gloo Platform's features are optimal for my use case because I have numerous applications and microservices running, requiring rate limiting and traffic management integrated into one platform, which proves very beneficial."
"You don't need many frameworks or other things to run Glue."
"Using this solution, the deployment and development processes become easier when compared to before, when complete Java development was necessary."
"The most valuable feature is that it enables me to present data in the format that the client wants to consume it. That client might be a visualization tool, that client might be a report, that client might be a customer's API requirements."
"Layer7 API Management is most valued for its drag-and-drop functionalities, the available policy options, and the excellent security features."
"CA is the first in the market from the time they acquired Layer 7."
"CA API Gateway provides rich policy sets in regards to XML and REST services, is great for all B2B integrations, and is a very agile component to set up and use."
"Every API that we get from external or from internal goes through this layer first, and it should not be a bottleneck. That was the problem we had before. Now it's no longer a bottleneck. It's more like a throughput, this process is less than 10 milliseconds for any particular API."
"If you're looking for a complete API developer platform and securing your APIs, then CA API Gateway is a good product."
"I'm part of an engineering team so this product coming with out-of-the-box security, that is valuable to our organization."

Cons

"I sometimes face issues with integration."
"The product shouldn’t require to be connected to a server for doing development."
"The API Development tool can be made more user-friendly by providing folder properties."
"There is room for improvement in terms of innovation and investment, especially when compared to other leading products in the market."
"There is a need to automate the process of retrieving the SSL certificate when it has expired. Currently, the product doesn't have this feature automated."
"There is a thick client for configuration that is not as easy to use as you might like."
"we cannot add gateways on the fly because there are a lot of moving parts; endpoint connectivity is one of them. If we add more nodes then the rate-limiting feature is affected. This kind of gateway always has the scalability issue. But, I think CA is coming up with its Microgateway, which is in Beta. If they stabilize their Microgateway platform, we could do very well in terms of scalability."
"I would like to see more documentation. The current documentation is there, but we do not find it very useful."
"Scalability is a bit tough if it is a production environment."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"If you do a TCO of more than five years, then you will see a big jump in costs for some vendors."
"APIs can be developed to provide security. We can show them in one single pane of glass, such as the CA API Management API Developer Portal. It is there that we can provide the monetization for their APIs and what is happening on third-party applications, like Paytm or BookMyShow."
"The price of Layer7 API Management is reasonable compared to Apigee."
"It's my manager who takes care of the pricing. But I keep on hearing that it's a little pricey, it's on the higher side. That is what he says."
"Be aware of additional licenses for your warm standby. Ensure you get plenty of non-production licenses."
"Licenses are required to operate the product, but I don't know much about the validity periods attached to it."
"Layer7 API Management is cheaper than Apigee."
"I think it's competitive. It's not that expensive when you compare CA with the Oracle product."
