Offers reliable log retention and monitoring with prompt customer support
Fortinet FortiPortal's most valuable feature as a free service is the log retention for at least seven days. It is useful for our service-providing company as I manage many clients and need reminders for UTM license expiries. The service comes bundled when buying licenses, providing these features for free. Fortinet cloud also allows for basic management such as monitoring expiries and storing logs from devices for a week if configured correctly.

Centralized monitoring enhances control while seeking greater flexibility and rapid response
I am still working for Lotus. We work with Palo Alto three series, Panorama, and Firewall Banu, specifically Firewall three series and five series I find this solution valuable for full monitoring, centralized control for reporting, and centralized management. These features are instrumental in…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I recommend Fortinet FortiPortal without any reservations, backed by my experience with its potent features and reporting capabilities."
"The customer likes it for the graphs, the dynamics and the reporting functionality it offers."
"The firewall and site-blocking features are valuable."
"I like the product's asset management which gives clear hardware details."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is application control."
"It does a little bit better than some of the other products health-wise and updates-wise. It is really clear that a firewall is getting the signature updates in this timeframe. In some of the other products, usually, you have to go a couple of screens in to see that, but not so much in this product."
"I like the tool's controller facility."
"I am very comfortable with it, including it's reporting on threats and through its activities."
"On the one or two occasions that I had to make use of technical support, I felt it to be pretty good."
"I would improve the management. I need to view charts and traffic statistics, but the management console doesn't share that information with me."
"These features are instrumental in achieving effective results."
"I really like the product."
"The threat prevention and layer seven security features were the most used and important for us. All operations are quite good in this solution."
"I found logging and management features the most valuable in Palo Alto Networks Panorama. Another good feature of the product is that it lets you define global firewall policies and templates."
"Everything about the reporting and everything about Palo Alto Networks Panorama is good."
"The most valuable feature is WildFire."

Cons

"The product must have in-built SD-WAN connectivity."
"So if it's more than a thousand, there could be some scalability issues. It becomes more complex as you go."
"I find their logging a little bit trickier to manage. The logging of events is broken up into a lot of different categories. Instead of breaking up my logs into several different places, I personally like to have all the events in one spot and then filter them down. In particular, I find that troubleshooting on Fortinet takes a little bit longer just because of those functional breakups in the logs."
"Fingerprint access security would improve this solution."
"There can be defects in Fortinet FortiPortal when functioning at high temperatures."
"It's useful for us but if it had more educational reporting, it would good. It's not necessarily lacking but it's an area that could get better."
"The tool should provide a 10-15 days extension for customers when their license expires."
"The solution is more expensive than other products."
"It would be beneficial to improve the capabilities of Panorama to handle logs more efficiently, potentially reducing the need for additional local collectors. Adding more predefined dashboards as features would enhance the monitoring and reporting capabilities."
"It is not a cheap product."
"The initial setup requires expertise and can be a bit complex."
"I am observing that whenever pushing our configurations sometimes the configuration will not push properly and then we have to go to the individual firewall and save it again."
"The general customer feedback is when saving the configuration, it takes a long time. That needs to be fixed. The troubleshooting, the debugging part is also a little bit of a pain. It's not user-friendly on the interface to do our debugging when comparing it with other firewalls, like Forcepoint."
"An area for improvement would be the connectivity, which sometimes means logs can be slow to display."
"It's difficult to implement."
"We have experienced a few bugs which the team at Palo Alto don't have solutions for."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Fortinet FortiPortal is expensive in Pakistan."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"Fortinet FortiPortal is relatively expensive, but being an industry-leading firewall, it does come with a cost."
"On average, it tends to be cheaper than other enterprise solutions."
"I am satisfied with the pricing for this solution."
"The solution is quite expensive."
"The licensing costs attached to the solution make it an expensive product."
"Fortinet FortiPortal is not expensive."
"The pricing model is reasonable for this class of solutions."
"There is a license needed to use Palo Alto Networks Panorama. The cost is not that important, what is important is meeting all the requirements and security features."
"Palo Alto Networks Panorama has so many licenses. For example, it has threat protection and group protection licenses. One license depends on another. I find it more expensive than Cisco."
"Its licensing is yearly and multi-yearly. It is not expensive."
"It has freed up staff time, which is where we are seeing ROI."
"Palo Alto products are generally priced higher compared to their competitors."
"The licensing is not cheap. There are always hidden costs. You have support costs, or maybe you need to buy more optics on how the solution fits into the rest of your environment. It is possible some of the rest of your environment will need to change too."
"Although I don't have direct knowledge of the setup cost I believe it is mid-range."
