Offers reliable log retention and monitoring with prompt customer support
Fortinet FortiPortal ( /products/fortinet-fortiportal-reviews )'s most valuable feature as a free service is the log retention for at least seven days. It is useful for our service-providing company as I manage many clients and need reminders for UTM license expiries. The service comes bundled when buying licenses, providing these features for free. Fortinet cloud also allows for basic management such as monitoring expiries and storing logs from devices for a week if configured correctly.

Centralized monitoring enhances control while seeking greater flexibility and rapid response
I am still working for Lotus. We work with Palo Alto three series, Panorama, and Firewall Banu, specifically Firewall three series and five series I find this solution valuable for full monitoring, centralized control for reporting, and centralized management. These features are instrumental in…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Everything works perfectly, and stability has not been an issue."
"It does a little bit better than some of the other products health-wise and updates-wise. It is really clear that a firewall is getting the signature updates in this timeframe. In some of the other products, usually, you have to go a couple of screens in to see that, but not so much in this product."
"The role-based access controls give us granular control over what features to present to a customer, and the integration into FortiAnalyzer is the most valuable feature."
"I am very comfortable with it, including it's reporting on threats and through its activities."
"The firewall and site-blocking features are valuable."
"The customer likes it for the graphs, the dynamics and the reporting functionality it offers."
"I like the product's asset management which gives clear hardware details."
"I recommend Fortinet FortiPortal without any reservations, backed by my experience with its potent features and reporting capabilities."
"One valuable feature is centralized management. We are able to manage it centrally for two to three remote offices, our head office and our data centers. So, it is very simple to manage."
"Panorama is very easy, easy to administrate, and easy to control."
"The most valuable aspect of this solution is the ability to manage our devices centrally. Additionally, we can monitor the workforce connections, receive reports, and use the backup feature."
"The solution offers good logging features."
"Technical support is quite helpful."
"Firewalls: The application ID capabilities have been very useful for things like Active Directory, and not having to identify every port that Microsoft has decided to use."
"Using this solution means that you can store logs for longer periods, up to perhaps two years, depending on your attached storage."
"The most valuable item is centralization and we can get all of the router bases in a single window."

Cons

"The tool should provide a 10-15 days extension for customers when their license expires."
"I find their logging a little bit trickier to manage. The logging of events is broken up into a lot of different categories. Instead of breaking up my logs into several different places, I personally like to have all the events in one spot and then filter them down. In particular, I find that troubleshooting on Fortinet takes a little bit longer just because of those functional breakups in the logs."
"The product must have in-built SD-WAN connectivity."
"The solution is more expensive than other products."
"There can be defects in Fortinet FortiPortal when functioning at high temperatures."
"Fortinet FortiPortal could improve by providing a learning portal and better security."
"The only complaint about Fortinet FortiPortal is the need for frequent firmware upgrades, as it requires constant updating due to potential security vulnerabilities."
"So if it's more than a thousand, there could be some scalability issues. It becomes more complex as you go."
"The integration between Strata Cloud Manager and Panorama could be enhanced to allow customers to stay on Panorama for many years while still utilizing Strata Cloud Manager for deployment."
"A bottleneck in Palo Alto Networks Panorama is the licensing. The licensing model for the product is complicated. Another area for improvement is the PDF report generation because you'll notice that it's missing some details."
"We had some challenges with the initial setup, but it was more on a learning curve basis."
"When extracting reports to a CSV file, the lack of correlation to the actual report generated is an issue. You get a CSV file with a vague name, which is inconvenient when sorting through multiple reports."
"We have experienced a few bugs which the team at Palo Alto don't have solutions for."
"It is not a cheap product."
"The solution's utilization of network ports makes things as complex as possible."
"Integration between Panorama and the Edge Firewall has a lot of issues, like different configuration assets, configuration object templates, lack of flexibility, and not a good browser."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"Fortinet FortiPortal is not expensive."
"I am satisfied with the pricing for this solution."
"Fortinet FortiPortal is expensive in Pakistan."
"The solution is quite expensive."
"The licensing costs attached to the solution make it an expensive product."
"Fortinet FortiPortal is relatively expensive, but being an industry-leading firewall, it does come with a cost."
"On average, it tends to be cheaper than other enterprise solutions."
"Palo Alto products are generally priced higher compared to their competitors."
"You can buy the hardware only and each box is not even $10,000. It's only $8,000 for the unit itself. However, then you are charged a three-year license at $81,000."
"The price of Palo Alto Networks Panorama is expensive."
"Cost-wise, it's very expensive."
"Palo Alto is expensive and there are many cheaper firewalls, but they do not work as well."
"The solution is relatively cheap; I rate it four out of five for affordability."
"Licensing fees are paid yearly."
"Pricing is high compared to other vendors in the same space. Licensing is also fairly high for different functions to be added on."
