Unified backups have protected hybrid workloads and now enable rapid recovery from ransomware
Dell Data Protection Suite is the most effective solution for my needs. The best features include comprehensive backup recovery across hybrid environments, supporting physical, virtual, and cloud workloads with tools that ensure fast, efficient restores across diverse environments. The flexibility in supporting physical, virtual, and cloud workloads has been a real advantage for us. We had a legacy physical database workload running on-premises alongside a newer cloud application in Azure. Traditionally, we would have needed separate tools to protect each environment, which would have meant extra overhead and complexity. Dell Data Protection Suite has positively impacted our organization by strengthening resilience, simplifying operations, and reducing downtime. Fast recovery is a key positive outcome, as RecoveryPoint for VMs allows us to restore critical workloads to a clean point in time with snapshots within minutes, minimizing downtime during incidents. The accuracy and reliability of the output from Dell Data Protection Suite's AI are generally high, especially concerning anomaly detection and compliance reporting.

Pros

"Dell Data Protection Suite is a comprehensive product with comprehensive tools."
"From my end experience, the biggest impact of Dell Data Protection Suite has been operational efficiency and storage optimization."
"The essential point is its reliability and fast recovery of information from corporate equipment."
"Many of our customers and partners are very satisfied because using Dell Data Protection Suite or Data Domain allows them to manage their backups in a smooth way and gain significant savings in storage area because the deduplication of Data Domain is really effective."
"I recommend this solution because it is the most complete tool in the market, and Dell Data Protection Suite is a faster and excellent solution."
"I'd rate the solution ten out of ten."
"Dell Data Protection Suite is a comprehensive suite offering virus-free and ransomware-free data protection."
"The best features that Dell Data Protection Suite offers are strong ransomware protection and reliable backup recovery across different workloads."
"The tool's most valuable aspect is its ease of management. It was not complex. In terms of features, I can mention a couple of things. For example, if you need to restore a VM, you can do it with multiple streams in OpenText Data Protector, which is an advantage over Commvault, from what I've noticed, having worked with multiple tools. Another thing is the Oracle backups; configuring Oracle backups is much easier in OpenText Data Protector."
"If you have a complex environment, if you have different OS's - Linux, Unix, Windows - if you have backup to disk, Data Protector is a very good choice to cover the whole environment."
"Overall, this is a good product and it hasn't given us any problems."
"Originally, the benefit from Data Protector was that it fitted in because we buy HPE storage."
"Regarding scalability, it's unlimited with Data Protector. You can link multiple installations and let them work together. They can share backup devices. You have many possibilities with Data Protector. It's very proficient."
"Customer Service: It's perfect."
"The feature that was most valuable was that we could restore one mailbox and we could do different backups for different databases."
"The reliability of HP Data Protector is the most valuable feature for us."

Cons

"While Dell DPS is a powerful solution, it is expensive, which allows competitors to find their place in the market. The deployment is complex and not simplified, requiring professional expertise."
"Dell Data Protection Suite could be improved in a few areas based on real-world use."
"Regarding needed improvements for Dell Data Protection Suite, I think support must be upgraded."
"The biggest frustration I have with Dell Data Protection Suite is the initial setup."
"From a data protection perspective, Dell is moving away from Dell Data Protection Suite to focus on PowerProtect Data Manager."
"Dell Data Protection Suite could provide support for more virtualization platforms."
"The learning curve is relatively steep, the complexity of some advanced configurations is challenging, and the interface could be more intuitive."
"The scheduler setup could be better. We are facing some issues scheduling the job based on our requirements."
"I don't use it today on a regular basis, but there are always feature improvements that our customers are looking for, such as more integration from an API perspective with different applications and cloud platforms."
"The biggest area of improvement for Data Protector would be the proper functioning and ease of configuration of clients behind firewalls and other security mechanisms."
"The interface has been the same for many years and needs to be updated."
"I don't like any function of the Micro Focus Data Protector. Honestly, I hate the Micro Focus Data Protector."
"Every upgrade is such a headache. For example, we currently have to upgrade to a new version, but somehow the connection to storage isn't happening because there are issues with the library."
"It can occasionally be inaccurate in its backup/recovery time estimates."
"VM backups needs to be improved. They need to make it similar to the way Veeam and Commvault are doing the virtual backups."

"The licensing cost was not annual. We didn't pay any license. We paid when we deployed and we didn't pay for anything after that. There were no additional fees after the initial payment."
"The licensing cost is too high."
