Offers seamless integration with robust data privacy features
I am currently working with other companies on data center solutions. In our data center, we work with HP, Dell, and Nutanix on data center build-up and migrations. I work with Dell Data Protection Advisor for cloud, though not extensively, and we provided that solution to one customer and are awaiting their approval. I am a reseller and service provider. We implemented Dell Data Protection Advisor for data privacy, and another team handles data protection and related issues. I did not work extensively on specific features, so nothing particularly stands out. From my reseller and end customer perspective, I would rate Dell Data Protection Advisor an eight out of ten as it is a good solution.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The reporting feature and the Dell's continuous improvement of the solution are the most valuable features. The solution not only supports Dell Power Products but also other products."
"I can increase the tool's licensing as per my requirement with no conditions applied."
"The product's ability to give predictions and advice on how to protect data is incredible."
"The deduplication is probably the most valuable feature of that requirement."
"It has a lot of stock reports. I believe over 300 canned reports, which for the most part meet a lot of generic needs."
"The most valuable aspects of the solution are the compression and the duplication."
"The initial setup is very straightforward. Deployment typically takes about one hour. You just need one person to handle the deployment process."
"I have never found any glitch in any Dell solution to date."
"The initial setup is very straightforward."
"It is easy to deploy."
"The solution is meeting all of our client's requirements. It has good performance."
"This is a reliable system that supports Veeam backup and recovery for Windows."
"Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows's most useful features is the ease of use and user-friendly."
"The most valuable feature is that it's a VMware environment."
"Technical support is good. They're very responsive. It depends on the timezone responding, but I usually get a response within three hours of creating a ticket."
"Veeam helps to create a stable environment with virtual servers."

Cons

"Some minor adjustments could be made regarding the graphical interface and customization options."
"It is difficult to manage the solution with the available tools. You need to know exactly what are you are doing."
"The functionality of the Data Protection Advisor is limited and is something that is lacking in this solution. Other solutions like CloudIQ and DDMC provide a much better outlook on how data protection should be done."
"We have encountered issues where we were unable to pull data from the database server. It should also improve the backward compatibility."
"The product could be improved by addressing intermittent collector failures affecting status reports' accuracy."
"The solution requires more integration with our other solutions. I know that they have full integration with VMware because it is also from EMC. However, we have to have better integration with Microsoft and Nutanix as well."
"There is a steep learning curve to use the interface and to create new reports, this could be made easier. If the solution could provide more drag and drop functionality to build more advanced reports that would be very helpful."
"From a service perspective, improvements are needed at Dell because when customers call, it takes a long time to get a response for calls or emails. Response time is the main problem that needs addressing."
"With the currency exchange, the solution ends up being quite expensive."
"I am not very impressed by the technical support I received when I had an issue."
"The backups can go slow."
"They should improve the solution's automation features."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"There should be an option to use the solution for physical machines."
"The solution could use some updates to minor details omitted from current reporting."
"Updating and configuration can sometimes be a little bit of a hassel, but once you know the product better it is easy to use."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You have to procure the license when you are ordering or quoting for Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). DPS is bundled with the suite and comes with a license. However, if you purchase NetWorker separately then you will have to procure the license for DPS separately."
"You need to make an upfront payment for three, five, or seven years and renew the licenses for support. We can do an annual maintenance contract with Dell. I would rate the product's pricing a six out of ten."
"It's not very expensive — I think the price is fair."
"For pricing, I would rate Dell 2 out of 5. It's affordable."
"The product is affordable."
"The product pricing has been satisfactory, particularly with the economy of scale in our agreement."
"If the customer has huge lineup of Dell Products then they receive discount on the pricing."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"It is less expensive than one of its variants."
"The pricing is good."
