Offers seamless integration with robust data privacy features
I am currently working with other companies on data center solutions. In our data center, we work with HP, Dell, and Nutanix on data center build-up and migrations. I work with Dell Data Protection Advisor for cloud, though not extensively, and we provided that solution to one customer and are awaiting their approval. I am a reseller and service provider. We implemented Dell Data Protection Advisor for data privacy, and another team handles data protection and related issues. I did not work extensively on specific features, so nothing particularly stands out. From my reseller and end customer perspective, I would rate Dell Data Protection Advisor an eight out of ten as it is a good solution.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup is very straightforward. Deployment typically takes about one hour. You just need one person to handle the deployment process."
"The platform's most valuable features are data protection and retention."
"This is a stable solution."
"It generates very detailed reports, which makes things easier when it comes to IT auditing."
"The deduplication is probably the most valuable feature of that requirement."
"It supports our chargeback process by identifying resource users, which helps ensure that departments are billed accurately for data protection services rather than receiving them for free."
"The product's ability to give predictions and advice on how to protect data is incredible."
"I have never found any glitch in any Dell solution to date."
"It is a stable solution."
"The initial setup was straightforward. It was very easy. Deployment only took about one hour with configuration and everything considered."
"The user interface is good. It provides a lot of information."
"I love Veeam because it is very easy to work with."
"It's powerful and user-friendly."
"The solution is very affordable for small businesses."
"This is a reliable system that supports Veeam backup and recovery for Windows."
"It is good and easy to use for backing up physical servers. It is working fine, and it is stable and scalable."

Cons

"The functionality of the Data Protection Advisor is limited and is something that is lacking in this solution. Other solutions like CloudIQ and DDMC provide a much better outlook on how data protection should be done."
"There is a steep learning curve to use the interface and to create new reports, this could be made easier. If the solution could provide more drag and drop functionality to build more advanced reports that would be very helpful."
"The solution requires more integration with our other solutions. I know that they have full integration with VMware because it is also from EMC. However, we have to have better integration with Microsoft and Nutanix as well."
"It is difficult to manage the solution with the available tools. You need to know exactly what are you are doing."
"Some minor adjustments could be made regarding the graphical interface and customization options."
"The stability of the solution needs improvement for stand alone users."
"We have encountered issues where we were unable to pull data from the database server. It should also improve the backward compatibility."
"It's a bit difficult for first-time users."
"We need some sort of security for backups and archives."
"It is not always easy to update this solution to the newer version, so the update process needs to be improved."
"The stability of this solution needs to be improved."
"If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better."
"There should be an option to use the solution for physical machines."
"The predictability of the solution needs improvement. Sometimes, if it's doing something at the back end, it may go slow. Today, the backup completion took four hours, but sometimes it can do the backup in 30 minutes or an hour. With solutions like NetBackup, I can predict to a much higher degree of certainty how long something will take to complete."
"There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature."
"I would like to see the ability for incremental backups and reverse backups."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is affordable."
"You need to make an upfront payment for three, five, or seven years and renew the licenses for support. We can do an annual maintenance contract with Dell. I would rate the product's pricing a six out of ten."
"For pricing, I would rate Dell 2 out of 5. It's affordable."
"If the customer has huge lineup of Dell Products then they receive discount on the pricing."
"It's not very expensive — I think the price is fair."
"You have to procure the license when you are ordering or quoting for Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). DPS is bundled with the suite and comes with a license. However, if you purchase NetWorker separately then you will have to procure the license for DPS separately."
"The product pricing has been satisfactory, particularly with the economy of scale in our agreement."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"We have a license package."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
