High availability and user-friendliness enhance infrastructure health and redundancy
I would rate technical support from DataCore SANsymphony a 10. Each time I contact the technical support, it's when I don't have a choice because it's very difficult for me on site, and each time, I have good people online who are able to help me solve the problem. Usually, the problems are not very technically difficult, but sometimes they are, and the support team is still there to help us resolve them. The majority of the problems are linked to licensing, so when the license has expired or the number is not correct, they are proactive and change things live, which is very good.

Infrastructure management simplifies for clients with integrated interface and enhanced resource utilization
Currently, the HPE HCI is based on the VMware solution, and most clients are skipping VMware because VMware has changed its licensing method. If HPE starts to use its own hypervisor for its HCI solutions, it will be the best solution. We push a different vendor for the backup and replication, so we only use the HCI, then we use Veeam for the backup and replication section.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Auto-tiering to obtain performance at a lower cost without the customer having to purchase ultra-fast storage is great."
"Our central storage has very high availability. DataCore SANsymphony ensures high business continuity."
"DataCore's ability to seamlessly move virtual volume data between storage pools as well as their synchronous mirroring has made maintenance and disaster recovery planning achievable."
"The better features are the synchronous replication and the management console."
"The platform's most valuable feature is its synchronous mirroring capability, which ensures bit-identical copies of data and offers excellent failover capacity."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its versatility, with there being support for all new hardware technologies and platforms, disc mirroring and very effective auto tiering."
"Runs very stable and therefore very trustworthy, without that a storage solution would be unthinkable."
"It is a stable solution."
"It is easy to manage; the administration is simpler. It saves a lot of rack space in the data center because you can consolidate 20 servers into three to five nodes. The client will be able to benefit from power savings and cost savings as well."
"HPE Hyper Converged is excellent because it can avoid the usage of storage area network."
"I like the fact that it's taken us from approximately 23 servers down to three ProLiant servers running the StoreVirtual VSA, with a big reduction in our electricity consumption, dramatically lower cooling requirements in our server room, and fantastic reliability."
"The most valuable feature was its time to delivery."
"No concerns or issues with stability."
"Before deploying the product, we did not have any enterprise IT infrastructure, and now with the HC380 deployment we succeeded in building all the required servers, organizing and protecting the data, which has increased our operational efficiency and level, and given us flexibility thanks to HPE HC380 and VMware."
"The performance is good compared to the cost of the solution."
"The most valuable features are the ease of use, resiliency of solution and data protection."

Cons

"We'd like to manage the raid on the disk directly in SanSymphony."
"I see some good competition to DataCore SANsymphony at the moment. I don't think DataCore SANsymphony is the best option on the market at the moment as they still could learn something from their competitors."
"I would like to see SMPA (Shared Multi-Port Array) technology developed with the aim of allowing a configuration identical to other storage arrays."
"I think an easier way to open a service call, right through the DataCore GUI, would be an improvement, especially when there is an urgent issue."
"Even though it is easy to administrate, the initial installation and configuration can be complicated."
"Right now, the version used is run on Microsoft Windows Server. Having a Linux version or even an appliance would be better as it would eliminate the use of additional licensing for another piece of hardware."
"The current view in the GUI is too simple and we cannot see clearly cold data or hot data."
"In my opinion, there should be improvements in how to get and filter logs."
"We've had to do a power cycle to bring it all the way down, bring it back up for power outages, A/C shut-downs of our DC office, but it hasn't presented a problem."
"Data protection and optimization is really weak; they do not offer deduplication or compression, and we do not have a real backup solution beyond snapshots, which is forcing us to do automatic backups of the extremely important data on different servers."
"Because it's so well integrated, you can't get away from it. You can't replace one part without the whole tool going down."
"The solution would be better served if it integrated with other solutions better."
"Data protection and optimization: It is really weak. They do not offer deduplication or compression."
"From the release that we have, we'd like to see better integration with vCenter and OneView."
"The solution can be improved on the management side. More management features should be added to future releases."
"Scalability requires using additional nodes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have licensing costs on a yearly basis. They charge per terabyte, so in terms of cost, it can be very costly. They have three different features, and you have to pay extra for those."
"Make sure you are made aware of the annual subscription cost when purchasing."
"It is relatively expensive, and the additional costs for hardware and storage can make it a significant investment for customers."
"This product has a good ratio between quality and price. In many cases, it's less expensive to work with DataCore than other storage systems."
"This solution allows the use of off-the-shelf hardware and charges by the TB of storage."
"Pricing has improved but it is still expensive."
"In my case, the licensing per terabytes is very high and it must be licensed for each extra functionality."
"The cost is at the same level as other storage solutions and it is easy to understand the licensing."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"The solution is expensive - not only the hardware costs but server costs too. And the more you scale, the more expensive it gets."
"HPE Hyper Converged is an affordable solution."
"We have a very good return on investment due to data savings through compression and deduplication methods. It simplifies IT management and enhances security, including the end-to-end security of the IT data engine. The product is complete, simple, and provides visibility."
"The solution is too expensive for our customers. The pricing should be lower."
"It could be cheaper, everything could be cheaper."
"I would rate the price at seven out of ten. There are no additional licensing fees, but it would be cheaper to go with a dHCI solution."
"The price per value compared to other solutions, like Nutanix and SimpliVity. (We made the deal before approval of HPE SimpliVity deal)."
