A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Has improved threat prevention and protection but presents deployment and licensing challenges
The best features Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) offers are AI-powered threat prevention, zero-day protection, unified management, and scalability. These features have helped me in my daily work or my organization by allowing us, as a SAAS company operating across AWS, Azure, and handling external partner access or a multi-tenant model, to preemptively stop unknown attacks, which is critical. Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) has positively impacted my organization as it is a high-end enterprise grade firewall. I have noticed that it is very good if your SAAS business has high traffic volume, serious threat prevention requirements, and you are ready for the investment.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use the FortiGate Sandbox to detect zero-day vulnerabilities, such as anomalies or malware, that are unknown and have not yet been discovered."
"Some of the best features of Fortinet FortiGate include the next-generation firewall features."
"The most useful features are application control, web filtering, and SD-WAN."
"FortiGate firewalls are user-friendly, and I like the security profiling features."
"The product's most valuable features are SD-WAN and the integration of WiFi and switches."
"Their reliability and their policy of pre-shipping replacements when a unit has failed."
"The SD-WAN feature is the most valuable. This feature evolved from link load balancing. It has helped us in terms of our uptime and privatizing applications whenever we experience an outage. The SD-WAN feature has been a plus for us. Two-factor authentication has allowed us to add more users in terms of remote working. We have two-factor authentication for remote workers to authenticate them before they get on the network."
"Advanced routing (RIP, OSPF, BGP, PBR). It gives you a seamless and simple integration into a large network."
"One of the most valuable features is the ability to whitelist and blacklist sources to control access to our ecosystem, ensuring secured SaaS application access."
"HTTP forwarding is something I haven't seen elsewhere."
"It's really simple to set up."
"Check Point NGFW is a fantastic product, and it is also easy to integrate with third-party devices."
"The best features Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) offers include having that single pane of glass to manage multiple firewalls from a single place, which really simplifies the management of our firewall infrastructure."
"We use Check Point to complete the network compliance rules."
"The solution is easy to administer thanks to its dashboards. The monitoring is really useful."
"It is always on the top of the list of best firewall solutions."
"The stability of Palo Alto Networks CN-Series is excellent."
"The app inspection is very helpful for network security."

Cons

"I need user-behavior analytics, to find threat scenarios from inside the organization, insider attacks. That would be very helpful for us. In addition, I would like next-generation features for small and medium businesses. These businesses require UTM, all in one product. Fortinet must include it."
"One of the most important areas for improvement for Fortinet FortiGate is the limited resources for tests."
"The monitor and the visibility, in this proxy, is very weak."
"The solution’s stability could be improved because we sometimes faced some drops."
"I find the management console not very straightforward, so that's an area where Fortinet FortiGate can improve. They should simplify it and make it more user-friendly."
"There should be some open-source training or free training for decision makers, or some webinars should be available. These would help understand the new product line and the existing product line features."
"Two-way inspections are not possible in FortiGate."
"Fortinet FortiGate SWG's SSL offloading features need improvement."
"It could be easier to manage the licenses on blades and contracts."
"The tool's support is lacking. We find almost all its features useful, except for some challenges with VPN."
"One of my issues with Check Point is the stability. There have been too many bugs, over the years, when I compare them with other vendors. Their QA team should do better work before releasing their GA versions."
"Check Point should improve services related to the cloud-based solution."
"We would like to see constant improvement in anti-malware functionality and anti-threat protection."
"One thing to improve is the VSX gateway. It is quite complex to work with VSX and they are quite easy to break if you aren't familiar with them."
"There is no clear way to report incorrect classification to support and a business is neither happy nor forgiving when they cannot receive mail from a crucial business partner."
"The frequency of the antivirus updates which we get for Check Point firewalls should increase. They should be of good quality compared to the competitive firewalls on the market. They should give us stable antivirus signatures. That is an area in which they can improve."
"Palo Alto Networks CN-Series could improve on its pricing as it is quite expensive."
"I'd like to see more IOPs features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was worth the money overall. It's good value."
"Price-wise, it's at a good price point for our market."
"The price of FortiGate is reasonable as I plan to buy new switches. The initial gadgets are already booted, and the pricing seems normal on the market. As for additional costs, I haven't subscribed to many extra features, so I'm only using what I need. Last year, I renewed the support for three years, which can sometimes be expensive but depends on the security benefits and how it helps us."
"The product is a little bit expensive."
"Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
"FortiGate's pricing falls within the mid-range when compared to other leading firewall solutions."
"Fortinet FortiGate as a less expensive solution than Palo Alto."
"The license is yearly. We pay for the top end. It's called 360."
"Licensing issues may be confusing at times."
"Comparatively, Check Point pricing is a little high. However, if you have that budget, I would recommend anybody to go with Check Point."
"Check Point Firewall costs more compared to the other firewalls in the markets, as pricing is little high. However, it is easy to take the license and use it in the firewall."
"It is quite an expensive product, although security is a top priority."
"While it may be slightly more expensive, when compared with competition it is reasonable."
"The price could be decreased, because the competitors of Check Point Firewall are giving lower prices in comparison."
"The pricing and licensing are expensive. If you compare it with Fortinet, then it is cheaper on a yearly basis. However, Check Point is the most expensive firewall right now in terms of licenses and its appliance. My recommendation is if you want a long-term investment, then you should use an open server. If you use an open server, then the latency is really low. If you pay for a full appliance, it's more expensive."
"The price of this product is not too costly and you do not need to pay for all of the features."
