Unified security and sd-wan have improved uptime and cut wan costs for multi-site branches
Users report stability issues in certain versions, which requires regular updates. Real-world attacks have also highlighted the need for urgent patching of vulnerabilities.Fortinet FortiGate, while a powerful and feature-rich web firewall, could improve in areas like firmware stability, documentation, and ease of use. The learning curve can be steep for some users. For beginners, support quality can vary, and frequent updates with occasional vulnerabilities call for careful patch management. However, once Fortinet FortiGate is configured, it remains highly reliable and efficient. Customer support needs improvement, as I find it very slow, with reports from other users reflecting that customer support is inadequate.

Has improved threat prevention and protection but presents deployment and licensing challenges
The best features Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) offers are AI-powered threat prevention, zero-day protection, unified management, and scalability. These features have helped me in my daily work or my organization by allowing us, as a SAAS company operating across AWS, Azure, and handling external partner access or a multi-tenant model, to preemptively stop unknown attacks, which is critical. Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) has positively impacted my organization as it is a high-end enterprise grade firewall. I have noticed that it is very good if your SAAS business has high traffic volume, serious threat prevention requirements, and you are ready for the investment.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The IPS and the application control feature are the most valuable."
"One of the features I appreciate the most is application control which offers great flexibility."
"FortiGate is easy to configure. We configured one of the units and sent it to Indiana to be installed. We asked them to give us a call when they got it, so we could help them through the process, but they called us back to tell us it works great."
"I like FortiGate's zero-trust capabilities and protection against zero-day threats. Zero-day threat protection is critical because we're seeing constant changes in the threat landscape. The sandboxing and web access controls are also robust."
"Fortinet FortiGate offers several valuable features, particularly as an interface-based solution. Its design makes it easy to understand both incoming and outgoing network traffic through its interface."
"Fortinet FortiGate has many valuable features, such as IDS, and intrusion detection. It has security features that are in part with the technologies that are available in the market."
"I prefer FortiGate because it has a lot of other solutions embedded within it and is the easiest for our technicians to operate."
"It is a fantastic product, it fits the customer requirements very well, and the vendor is great."
"Admins and executives are more at ease with the compliance engine within the software as it measures how many of the security requirements we're compliant with, making their work much more accessible from that standpoint."
"It helped clients get through big audits for PCI, which has been very cost-effective for them."
"Check Point NGFW has proven to be a reliable firewall, offering great security while also being rather easy to manage."
"Our business performance is already doubled by the help of Check Point."
"Google has a premium partnership with Check Point, involving extensive verification processes for major customers. This strong partnership indicates a significant level of collaboration between the two companies."
"There is a lot of legacy traffic from other vendors that has been migrated to Check Point which has resulted in a lot of stability in our environment."
"When it comes to Check Point, there are great security features and a marvelous inbuilt design that caters to handling all threats, including zero-day attacks and perimeter security."
"After introducing this NGFW, we have improved our security posture, and now, have peace of mind."
"The stability of Palo Alto Networks CN-Series is excellent."
"The app inspection is very helpful for network security."

Cons

"Fortinet FortiGate can improve performance. There was a huge challenge in terms of CPU and memory where the IPS engine would keep triggering."
"FortiManager has not been my favorite. I don't use it and cannot say I really care for FortiManager for managing the firewalls."
"Lacks training for new features."
"User experience for the administrator is basically not good as it needs to be more proficient."
"They should improve high CPU and memory usage that occurs."
"It is difficult as an end-user to setup continuing license contracts."
"The interface could be better."
"The cloud management and automation capability could be improved."
"Bug Fixes and enhancement requests should be remediated earlier, as we have multiple dependencies and auditors are forced to have the latest possible environments."
"The number of physical network ports on the device should be increased to allow for greater capacity."
"Complex and not very easy to use."
"There have been a few requests/issues about the Identity Awareness feature."
"I would like the user interface to be more user-friendly. I want the UI to be easier to use than Check Point's competitors."
"Check Point doesn't warn us when rules are about to expire."
"Management: Check Point should move away from its current architecture wherein it mandatorily requires a management server to manage the gateways. They should develop A feature in the gateway itself so that no management server is needed for policy and gateway management."
"The drawback is that I want to push the policy from my management console itself instead of on the Check Point device."
"Palo Alto Networks CN-Series could improve on its pricing as it is quite expensive."
"I'd like to see more IOPs features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a license required to use Fortinet FortiGate with all the features. It has to be updated with the threats on an ongoing basis for the signatures to prevent threats and a license is needed to receive those security updates."
"Its pricing is fine. It is on a yearly basis. Other than the licensing fee, there is no extra fee."
"It is around $50,000 per month."
"The solution is very expensive so pricing is rated a one out of ten."
"At the time we bought them, I was satisfied with their pricing; I don't know how the new pricing will be."
"The solution could be better priced."
"Price-wise, it's at a good price point for our market."
"The product is expensive."
"The price could be better. I think Palo Alto pricing is high, and Check Point isn't much better. FortiGate is cheaper. I think when I implemented this solution, I recommended buying a yearly subscription."
"It comes with a significant price."
"The pricing and licensing part is something that could be improved. Check Point license and pricing are a bit higher compared to competing firewalls. I think they can work on that."
"I think that the pricing is different for every organization."
"Check Point NGFW is a little expensive."
"The price is too high."
"The tool's price is reasonable in case you are not using it in a high-load environment."
"It is a notably expensive product in our country compared to FortiGate and other servers."
