Supports long-running asynchronous processes effectively but has not evolved much in recent years
I think Camunda is focusing too much on the SaaS offering right now and not much on improving and developing the product itself. I did not see any innovations on that aspect, especially for the open-source version. I was making some tests recently and the tool seemed pretty much the same as it was three or four years ago. Since they made the move to cloud deployment in a more SaaS-oriented way, they do not invest too much in the community version. To be honest, it did not change much from the Activiti initial version. Activiti was pretty much what Camunda is today. They invested a lot on Zeebe and made it the engine for their SaaS cloud version. Camunda itself, the embedded engine, did not evolve too much. They could invest more on that.

A great ERP for medium and even small businesses
If one has experience in the ERP market, big brands like Microsoft require a lot of money over other platforms like Odoo. We can implement an on-premise model for some enterprise customers because it gives privacy and security. For other customers, we provide the cloud version. Currently, we recommend customers implement the ERP platform on the cloud environment because of the flexibility and scaling. I recommend that customers invest in a solution with the possibility of scaling in the future while providing many functions and features out of the box. In many ERPs we provide, although we would recommend ELMA as a default option for medium and even enterprise customers, they need bigger brands. ELMA 365 should be the second or third option for customers right now. I rate ELMA 365 a ten out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are documenting all of the processors and VPN. Then we are sharing it with our business users."
"The most valuable features are the ease of use and the ability to streamline a process model on a BPM diagram."
"The flexibility is great."
"Camunda BPM allows us to have a BPM bot with our own UI, and that's what we liked most about Camunda."
"We have the ability to modify the product if we need to, and that comes in handy whenever we need to add new functionality and features."
"I think that the positives of Camunda Platform are that our customers can start with the free version, and for testing and learning purposes it is perfect."
"The best feature is the automation."
"The UI is very user-friendly compared to other products. The native, vanilla UI is very interesting and intuitive to use. It's user-friendly when it comes to modernizing a business process."
"A lot of customers, when we introduce this kind of product into their organization, it provides a lot of analytics."

Cons

"Collaborations and process documentation in Camunda Platform are areas with shortcomings that need improvement."
"We had to do a lot of tweaking; it hasn't been stable from the beginning, but with some effort, it can become stable."
"Process interfaces between diagrams could be improved."
"Right now we are trying to solve problems with the Camunda Cloud and there are significant problems with performance."
"Generally, the price could be better, as well as the licensing fees."
"It's costly and not accessible for small enterprises or startups. It would be great if Camunda offered a tier plan for smaller companies."
"It is hard to say if this solution is scalable. We've contacted their support team on this, and sometimes it takes very long to get an answer from them."
"On the other hand, if I were rating it for use by the public then I would rate it a three out of ten."
"Customers want improved productivity."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We pay for the license of this solution annually."
"Camunda's pricing is good."
"There were some features that were only available in the paid version."
"There is an open-source version available, that in its core features (workflow and decision engine, modeler) is exactly the same as in the enterprise version."
"We are using the paid edition because there is no separate support and service license yet. We are yet to find a suitable licensing model for Camunda because we only use the engine, and we have implemented our solution around Camunda Cloud. So, we are mainly interested in the support and service, and that's what we mainly use in the paid edition."
"Generally, the price could be better, as well as the licensing fees."
"The product is expensive for a small or medium-sized company."
"We use the open-source version, which can be used at no cost."
"I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
