Dashboards facilitate prompt alerts but discovery feature needs enhancement
I would recommend Broadcom DX Application Performance Management if a customer doesn't have any existing performance solution. However, ten years ago, the solution was better, and now there are many competitive options. My overall rating would be between six and seven. The product rating I would give is 6.5 out of 10.

Centralized monitoring has unified alerts and dashboards for critical cloud applications
We can improve a bit of UI aspects. The UI could be made more user friendly. Sometimes when identifying the specific logs patterns and identifying what metrics and what logs are coming in, going to a specific log explorer and finding it there is a little difficult. It would be very useful if we could group according to projects and have that UI a little more user friendly. The user interface part was a bit confusing in the beginning. To make it better, I believe we would need some more open sourced or freely available courses on Chronosphere which would help us understand the platform a bit more. The team provides detailed walkthroughs whenever you get into that. However, it would be better if we could have proper video sessions or documentation which would help us understand the tool a bit more.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Support from CA has been really, really phenomenal."
"Scalable, stable, and easy to deploy APM tool which effectively monitors code-level visibility."
"APM integration is the most valuable feature because of the possibility of mapped links breaking for web services with internal components."
"Technical support has been pretty good."
"It is a very good product, but it has to fit their needs because it is mainly focused on JAVA/.NET applications, although it has agents for PHP and Node.js."
"Our development cycle has definitely improved as far as the turnaround time on fixes and improvements."
"It is the very best solution and will surely enhance anyone’s application performance and resource utilization."
"Our organization has over 21,000 agents running, and being able to monitor all those agents at the same time, with the ability to be alerted when thresholds are exceeded, means we can know when we are having problems without having dedicated people to watch monitoring screens all the time."
"The alerting features are good"
"Integrating Chronosphere was pretty much easy coming from an open source tool and it helped us to streamline our monitoring and alerting setup across our organization, which directly impacted on the streamlining of the process as well as reducing errors and also keeping our environment uptime to a greater extent by those alerts and quick responses."

Cons

"I'd like to see more integration between all the tools."
"Issues with the workstation interface which could be more productive."
"Needs the ability to dynamically create dashboards. Right now, we do custom dashboards. Everything is created manually."
"With respect to SQL monitoring, it would be nice to have a little more information because it doesn't provide the full statement all of the time."
"The pricing and licensing costs are too high."
"They tried to streamline the organization, that was the initial point of using APM. It led to so many internal changes, but it didn’t affect the organization much at all in the end."
"Root cause detection Easy installation and configuration It should facilitate real user monitoring to see what your users are experiencing in real time."
"Sometimes, we had stability issues."
"It's not easy for everyone."
"Sometimes when identifying the specific logs patterns and identifying what metrics and what logs are coming in, going to a specific log explorer and finding it there is a little difficult."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is some research needed to determine licensing costs, based on the number of DataPower instances for the Nastel agent, for example."
"Negotiate a lot, but do not forget to buy the product because it is worth it."
"All discounts are case by case to accommodate the client's budgets."
"The license for Broadcom DX Application Performance Management is annual. The licensing model could improve because there is not any limit to deploying the agent, there should be some limits on it."
"Broadcom is a better and cheaper option from the financial perspective. It also depends on the DLP plug."
"Setup costs are quite competitive relative to other solutions, and simpler."
"The pricing structure should be based on memory or CPU usage rather than the number of agents, as it makes the solution more expensive for us."
"Pricing and licensing are not issues."
