We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's pretty much the source of "the truth." Everything is together, everyone can see all the resources, financial projects, how long a project's going to take. Anybody can go in there and see any information they need about the organization as a whole.""It is very stable. We are on demand. With on demand, those guys keep it running.""It is a scalable, easy-to-deploy, and user-friendly solution for enterprise businesses.""The most valuable features are the project, resource, and portfolio management processes are combined in one solution. The data is possible to use either in the one or the other process, and we do not need to enter the data multiple times.""The interfaces for project management, portfolio management, and reporting services are always helpful.""Broadcom Clarity PPM's most valuable feature is the plenty of modules, such as portfolio, project, resource, and time.""It allows me to keep track of the projects, residual location, it gives me the ease of getting status reports out, and checking risks and issues.""Broadcom Clarity PPM is a high-value product that helps users become productive. It's a very stable, scalable, and fast platform, even from a self management perspective."

"Overall, they have a very strong workflow management capability. That's a very strong feature because then you can model any process easily. Whether it is a demand management process, a pipeline management process, or your project delivery methodology, it is much easier because of their workflow management capability.""The data provided by PPM is trusted and is available almost immediately; without trusted data there is very less scope of any tool to be successful.""I like the ease of customization from an admin perspective. I'm really excited about some of the things that are coming in version 10.0.3 as far as what admins are able to do.""It is very important that the platform gives us a single place where we can measure progress toward goals, as we have weekly meetings with the CTO. We present these consolidated overviews and dashboards to him so that he has an overview of all the projects and can see the status of all the problems that we have and we are working on.""Recent Program Management lifecycle, Program Management aggregation views due to interactive UI (selection of risks, issues, and changes in Program Overview) and “flash look & feel" of this functional chunk, which is different in comparison to other parts of HPE PPM.""The portfolio management and the resource management are the key features.""Scenario comparison is the feature most valuable to us and the reason why we decided to choose HPE PPM over other portfolio management products.""Resource management: The resource management module is very complete and covers most of the time all needs of customers."

More OpenText Project and portfolio Management Pros →

"The solution's tech support is good.""The ability to streamline the process of obtaining signatures from our contractors is valuable.""Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is a well-engineered product from an IT perspective.""The most valuable feature of Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is accuracy.""I like Primavera's planning capabilities."

Cons
"In the next release, I would like to have a little bit more functionality on chatbots in Clarity PPM, especially for support requests, such as for the most commonly used support tickets that people could resolve themselves.""One of the things that have always been a bit painful is the integration with reporting utilities. The current integration is with Jaspersoft, and there are a number of difficulties with that. If you're using out-of-the-box fields and everything, it is a bit slow and clunky. It has a drag-and-drop interface for the users. On the backend side, there is a report designer. They haven't given or allowed me any training on it yet. So, it has been a bit limited in its features. On one of the earlier report utilities, they had one called Actuate, which had VBA as its base programming language, and you could do quite dynamic things behind the scenes, whereas the Jaspersoft interface seems rather locked. So, you're limited in your options. Being a programmer, you like to have room to be able to invent and create rather than just being limited to a few selection boxes.""The Latin American support could be better due to the language barrier.""The solution could improve the way the workflow is developed. I think they could be more dynamic because they are in a way static. They're very powerful, but they don't have any interaction with end-users.""In the community, I do not see a lot of answers. A lot of people asking lots of questions, but I am not seeing a lot of answers come through.""Whenever that second instance of Clarity came about, it was overwhelming even to people who were accustomed to working with program management tools.""We see it as overhead. Let us collect all the data in one place. Which, it is always nice to have everything in one place, but it does cause that overhead.""The look and the feel of 14.4 is a bit antiquated."

More Broadcom Clarity Cons →

"There are some limitations when it comes to attaching receipts. For example, if we are going to buy some non-labor-related assets such as hardware, we are not able to attach the receipts in the Financial Management module in version 9.41.""Portfolio scenarios: This is a very powerful feature. However, it’s limited to analyses.""Currently, HPE PPM does not allow “Project” approval, but only simple “Demand Request” approval (mobility).""User interface continues to be poor. The product does not have a similar view in the different modules, e.g., staffing vs financial management, it looks like you are working with a different product and it is not easy to use or intuitive.""We had a couple of issues with stability or performance degradation about a year ago, around the time of the initial rollout. Since then, we've only had two unexpected outages that were quickly resolved.""I would also like to see improvement in PPM's reporting and alerts. PPM has reporting capabilities, including HTML reports and portlets. But a majority of clients will build their own reporting platforms, or they will use external reporting platforms like Tableau and QlikView.""They can make its UI better. Currently, the UI is a bit clunky.""I was not involved in the initial setup. I know that the project involved a lot of consulting that took a long time."

More OpenText Project and portfolio Management Cons →

"The solution's user interface is an area with shortcomings that need improvement.""The scalability has room for improvement.""They should work on integrating the solution with ERP.""The reporting could improve project management. We need multiple source reports. If someone is new to the support it has a steep learning curve.""Primavera could be better integrated with other products, and it needs more cost management features."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "For all the functionalities of the solution, the price is in the market range, since it is a product which offers governance issues and supports the digital transformation, which is where we will go in the next year."
  • "Better understanding of requirements and how it will be implemented (with number of licenses for a given budget) would help."
  • "It is a little bit costly compared to others, but it is mature. Customer should understand this product is geared towards project management, not financial management."
  • "It is hard for them to say, "I have a person on my team who is going to be available, I am going to move that task to them". That requires a project management license, it doesn't require a team member license, so the licensing model does not sometimes support the way the business world is going."
  • "We're also moving to the latest version for less than $20,000 for a major corporate system. It's just amazing."
  • "Broadcom Clarity PPM costs us $500K, and that's only for the installation and kick off within the first year. For each succeeding year, it could cost $200K."
  • "There are different licensing models with Broadcom Clarity PPM. With the software as a service model, you pay as you go, and if you are on-premises, you can buy a perpetual license and an annual fee for maintenance."
  • "Cost-wise, the tool is very expensive and some tools might be able to cater to 80% of the functionality provided by Broadcom Clarity PPM but are not as expensive."
  • More Broadcom Clarity Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Support and license management are two hurdles for us. Every time we purchase new licenses, it has taken us half a year to implement those."
  • "It is SaaS without a base fee."
  • "HPE PPM SaaS model is comprehensive, however, the base fee component has customer resistance to its recurring setup,"
  • "Now, we also received an increase in the support license prices, without any advanced notice. At this point, switching to unify all our licensing under HPE and customer support has been poor."
  • "We have an annual license, and it is fairly priced in comparison to that of other solutions."
  • "A large organization will find Micro Focus PPM affordable, but it may be a bit costly for a small or medium-sized company. The license is based on the number of users."

  • "The solution is highly priced compared to one of its competitors."
  • "Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is an expensive solution. There is an upfront cost to purchase the solution and then there are annual fees to use the solution."
  • "The solution itself is cost-effective."
  • "My company has made an annual payment towards the costs of the solution. Price-wise, the solution is okay."
