We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the way Broadcom ARD inserts test cases in execution mode. Also, ARD can be used apart from Broadcom TDM. It's an add-on through which you supply data through ARD test cases when there is a need for extra data.""The scale possibilities are endless, especially when combined with all the other products that CA has to offer.""Technical support is excellent. They provide solutions quickly for issues encountered.""CA ARD has some beautiful features which I haven't found anywhere else. For example, when designing or creating our test cases and doing scenarios, we are able to restrict our flows. If we take a data link between two processes, we can actually restrict it, so that, in production, if our functionality breaks down, we can restrict that and all the flows related to it will be removed from the test data set.""Measuring test coverage helps in one of the most challenging tasks. It has logic that can help to select the right set of scenarios and know what coverage it will provide.""It takes away all the time to construct test cases, so it is all automatic now, but it also levels the playing field.""Defects can be traced in the solution.""In terms of meeting business challenges, it helped to shorten the dev/testing cycle by identifying requirements gaps early in the process, by having models shared within the development team. It helped increase test coverage and reduce the number of issues experienced by clients/customers."

"Most valuable features are the ease of organizing test cases and a great API for sending results from automated test run results into the database.""The API to support integration of the homemade automated testing tool.""You don't need to follow complex procedures to create a test run, test case, etc.""I use the solution for test management.""This is a user friendly solution.""The features that I have found most valuable are that there are various test case templates and test artifact maintenance.""The ability to time test runs gives the tester the ability to compare calculated times to actual times it takes for a test case to run.""The most valuable features of TestRail by Gurock are the user experience, it's very easy to learn. There is no learning curve needed to work on projects and manage the test cases, it is easy. Exporting and importing are simple."

Cons
"Integration with Agile management tools can be improved, i.e., mainly test case maintenance and linking test cases to the automation script.""A template in App Test should be created in advance. This has proven to be time consuming. The process is not fully automated, because there is a lot of manual intervention is required.""The solution could be more user-friendly. For example, attachments could be icon-based to make it easier for the user to notice them.""CA ARD doesn't provide integration with Tosca. The possibility of creating a test case and exporting it into Tosca is not available. Integration with end-to-end automation tools, like Worksoft or Tosca, is not provided by CA ARD as of now.""At present, there is no option for test data parameters from ARD for virtual databases. We have to create them in TDM and push them as well. Virtual database connectivity needs to be improved. They need to come up with some areas where they can create synthetic data parameters easily from the test cases that have been designed.""It would help if it would save different subsets of test cases, use cases, etc., of a given diagram, for different purposes and provide an easy way to name those subsets.""I think it's already coming, but it needs more automation aspects. There is a tab for Automation, but I think it's not robust. I think that it's going to be a crucial element of the tool.""They do not have an engine to house test scripts to really pull together the testing pieces of it."

"It would be useful if it had its own issue management system. At the moment, it's purely a test management tool and you have to link to a defect management tool, like JIRA. It would be useful if there was an option to use its own defect management tool so that it's integrated and not two separate tools.""TestRail should improve its pricing.""The test suite management has room for improvement as well as better reporting.""It would be nice to have a description section when creating the test scenario itself so I can indicate what the configuration should be.""The platform needs improvement regarding performance and creating links.""The TestRail API to integrate reporting of automated tests is complete, but requires many requests to identify the appropriate entry.""Their customer support could be improved. Sometimes we struggle with that. It could be faster. Whenever we raise any query, they get back to you but the turnaround time is very slow.""I've encountered at some point, some difficulties on the administration side, but I don't remember exactly what they were."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The cost of the tool was well worth the benefit that we saw on the back-end."
  • "We were able to scale down some resources to basically self-fund our ability to purchase the tool."
  • "This tool reduces the cost associated with test cases, automation script generation, and maintenance costs."
  • "It is less costly when compared to other tools on the market."
  • "Recommendation is to go with concurrent licenses as oppose to seat license; this gives more flexibility."
  • "At present, Broadcom works through partners rather than dealing directly with the consumer. When there are discounts given, it's up to the partner as to whether they want to give that discount to the customer. Sometimes, the partners decide to take the discount themselves. Pricewise, I would give ARD's price a rating of three out of five."
  • "The pricing model is based on how many people are using it. We have an annual license. There are not any additional costs."

  • "Use TestRail Cloud (online TR hosted server) and don't worry about maintenance or scalability. It saves a lot of cash and time."
  • "My advice to others is to shop around for the best deal. Some options out there are free in cyberspace."
  • "Pricing for small teams seems correct with respect to competitors."
  • "Negotiate the best deal you can."
  • "Its price is definitely not more. If they introduce automation, they can charge more."
  • "The price of the solution is based on how many users you have per year. When you grow, it is segmented, For example, 10 to 25, you have a price, and more than 50, or 100, you need to take the enterprise license. I don't think we will reach this point."
  • "I give the price a five out of ten."
  • "The product is not much expensive."
