Has improved monitoring efficiency and supports fast issue resolution through responsive support and reliable automation
I work with BMC TrueSight and have been using it for eight-plus years BMC TrueSight brought a positive impact and benefits to our organization. The customization part is one of the advantages of the product, along with the monitoring capabilities. Automated root cause analysis and predictive…

It consolidates all logs into one place and provides required features and functionalities
Every once in a while, our IBM cloud operational implementation gets behind. Sometimes, when we have a customer event, we do not get access to the latest logs for about 30 minutes, particularly for the sites that are heavily utilized. This is clearly not good. It is impossible to do RCA when you can't look at the logs that pertain to the time period in which the event occurred. It could be more of an operational problem than a feature problem. I don't have visibility about whether it is a LogDNA issue or just an operational issue.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Automated root cause analysis and predictive capabilities are powerful features that assist in resource utilization and capacity planning."
"BMC TrueSight Operations Management can be used to monitor anything on-premises, including the server, applications, log monitoring, event IT monitoring, and process monitoring."
"Allows reliable access to server hardware info, uptime statuses, current patching, and much more."
"It is very helpful to be able to apply rule-based routing to alerts."
"The most valuable features of BMC TrueSight Operations Management are the blackouts and event management."
"It is breadth. It covers so many different technologies which can roll up into a single console."
"The solution is stable, we have not needed to speak to the vendor regarding any issues, it has been operating very well."
"The visibility of the environment that the solutions provide is great."
"With LogDNA, which brings all the logs together in an interleaved stream, it allows us to take a transaction and relate it to other contextual events making the gathering of evidence for auditors and our internal RCA much more productive."
"We haven't had anything yet that we couldn't do through LogDNA."
"The solution aggregates all event streams, so that if there are any issues, it's all in the same interface."
"LogDNA consolidates all logs into one place, which is super valuable."

Cons

"Reporting would be an area for improvement in TrueSight."
"Reporting would be an area for improvement in TrueSight... We have almost 800 customers today on TrueSight and just under 10,000 assets. We need to be able to give a customer some information. If the customer's product fails, they'll ask us, "Did it have a problem beforehand?" We have all those events and we know all the problems it had beforehand. We have to be able to give them access to that kind of reporting. That's an enhancement that we need."
"I would like to see a little more out-of-the-box event correlation and expanded AIOps type capabilities."
"The graphs are extremely limited. We don't have a lot of dashboard options. To make reports and dashboards more useful, we usually need to integrate some dashboard solutions."
"There are some small limitations with this tool in terms of reporting dashboards that fit all of the requirements of the individual customer."
"The product must provide application or service monitoring features."
"One of the things that the TrueSight environment is missing is some of the HA abilities. The data collection server called the ISM doesn't really have the HA functionality or workload balancing. It was missing from the previous product as well. It's missing redundancy."
"The solution is based on endpoints and knowledge models which can get costly. Pricing is a little bit high so I rate it a six out of ten."
"Every once in a while, our IBM cloud operational implementation gets behind. Sometimes, when we have a customer event, we do not get access to the latest logs for about 30 minutes, particularly for the sites that are heavily utilized. This is clearly not good. I don't have visibility about whether it is a LogDNA issue or just an operational issue."
"No ability to encapsulate a query or a filter, and communicate or share that among the team."
"Scalability could be improved; we are using it through the IBM cloud deployment and on some of the data centers that are very heavily used, there is a significant lag in the event stream, sometimes 10, 15 minutes behind, which makes the RCA impossible."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solutions are not the cheapest but are robust and stable. License model is rather complex and BMC do often change the model."
"The cost depends on the usage."
"The only possible additional cost that I can mention, that you might not be aware of, is that it uses Oracle partitioning, if you use Oracle. There are Oracle partitioning fees that go with that."
"Pricing is all volume-driven. I think we were paying between $80 and $85 per license. That's per unit, for a perpetual license. You pay it one time and then, every year, you pay 20 percent of that for annual maintenance and support. But now that we've grown, we've purchased tens of thousands of licenses and the cost per license has gone down to something like less than $30..."
"It is a relatively inexpensive solution."
"Consider scalability very carefully: how much you want to monitor and what components are very important. Then, depending on these two things, filter out unwanted metrics or attributes. If you do a good job at filtering the data, then your licensing costs will be manageable."
"The price of BMC TrueSight Operations Management is very high. If there was more flexibility with the sizing of the licensing it would be helpful, especially during the pandemic. We have wanted to expend but the licensing cost is too high."
"The tool is moderately expensive."
