Has required extensive coding and high effort for maintenance but has supported legacy integrations
I am generally satisfied with BizTalk Server, but there are some gaps, as we have multiple integration tools. Thus, there is associated cost, operation cost, license cost, and CapEx, so we are trying to consolidate all the integration tools. Regarding BizTalk Server and data mapping tools, we want to get rid of BizTalk Server, as there is unnecessary license cost, and there are some limitations, so we might go for Azure Integration Services. BizTalk Server is completely ruled out; we will not be proceeding with it. We initially planned to move to Azure Integration Services, but there are challenges with AIS, so now we are evaluating WebMethods IO because WebMethods is now part of IBM, which is performing well in the market, although the IBM license cost is too high. The initial investment is too high, and we want to reduce that cost.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Essentially, you can do whatever you like with these systems, and you do not have to take care about the scaling because if one server is overloaded, it just forwards the message to the next server, even if it were designated to a specific server. It weeds out the messages according to the load. If you want to scale it, you just add new servers."
"MS BizTalk is reliable and dependable."
"The most valuable feature of BizTalk Server is that it will turn XML into flexible transactions."
"The product stood out as a really helpful solution when we came upon a problem of increasing the number of relationships between corporate systems, naturally causing an increase in expenses required to maintain the existing infrastructure."
"The most valuable feature is its reliability and stability. The first version of BizTalk was released in 2000, and many companies still use it. It was stable until 2013 when we had support."
"The tool's most valuable feature is its integration with the banks. Its messaging and routing capabilities are good."
"Faster development time"
"Boomi has advantages over BizTalk Server because it is more flexible, low-code, no-code, easy to implement, and has a fast go-to-market."
"PAM has the ability to integrate and build solutions that work well in CA's suite of service management products and those that are outside of service management."
"It’s a great product, extremely versatile but takes a certain skillset to use and implementation of automation can be time consuming when done properly."
"Technical support is unequivocally excellent; in fact, the best customer service and technical support I’ve experienced during my 12 years in IT."
"The benefits are the efficiency we achieve with such a product, as we could automate processes which were done in the past by humans, speeding up the reaction by 10 times and saving us a lot of money."
"It is easy to debug and troubleshoot."
"They were good, they helped us a lot from the beginning, from installation through the whole process, and not just their support, but also their professional services are top notch."
"CA Process Automation manager is a very powerful production tool."
"This tool is used in my organization for automating IT infrastructure related incidents or service requests."

Cons

"We encounter issues with deployment when SQL Server and BizTalk Server are on separate machines, especially with the MSDTC."
"I didn't find anything particularly valuable in BizTalk Server. It didn't help me, and we are moving away from BizTalk Server to a new platform."
"BizTalk Server is an outdated legacy system that does not support messaging."
"It's a complex product because you have many degrees of freedom to connect different parts together. Whether it's sensible or not, is up to you, but the machine does allow it. But because of the vast degrees of freedom, it's complex."
"Updating things in BizTalk is a headache."
"BizTalk Server needs improvements, especially because we use it for EDI messaging, and it would be very useful to have enhanced tracking capabilities for message tracking and archiving of messages."
"It's an on-premises system, requiring physical servers for deployment. This is different from Azure; you don't need any servers with Azure. If you have a subscription, you can do whatever you want. There are unit restrictions based on the environment (like non-production vs. production) in BizTalk. You need physical servers and databases. In Azure, those are not required – it's all in the cloud."
"BizTalk is in the past, Microsoft is not going to evolve it any further or add any new features."
"CA offers minimal public information pertaining to the performance drain the usage of some objects and operators introduce to processing."
"Every so often the service needs to be restarted otherwise it runs slower and slower. I think this may be due to a memory leak."
"OCR capability should be added as a feature."
"A lot of times they don't get resolved, but I'm okay with those kind of responses sometimes."
"The solution engine is in Java. Regardless of developments, the solution will always be limited to what Java offers."
"It needs auto-triggering of workflows based on machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI)."
"Make some of the features more open source that way developers can have more flexibility."
"These configurations can be changed only through the installation wizard. There's no way to update such information in the administration interface, which is, in my opinion, very bad."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost will depend on the client's requirements."
"Based on the knowledge, it is relatively cheaper than Azure Identity Services and cloud services in general."
"BizTalk Server is not freeware. There's a significant licensing cost involved. Be sure you will actually utilize its features fully."
"BizTalk Server is cheap. I would rate its pricing a two out of five."
"The solution is expensive."
"It was not cheap, but it was affordable."
"There are a lot of automation savings from any process which is repeatable."
"It has provided ROI by auto resolving incidents or requests in the ITSM queue, improved MTTR and SLA adherence, and added value to the delivery of services and the customer experience."
