Valuable, reliable, and offers a comprehensive dashboard
Setting up Barracuda was moderately complex and it took about an hour with initial support from Barracuda engineers. While the deployment process wasn't overly complicated, having some knowledge about Barracuda or assistance from an engineer is advisable, especially when dealing with customer architectures. Once set up, ongoing support wasn't necessary, making it a relatively straightforward process.

Easy to use, offers good scalability and responsive support
The deployment depends on the environment. Deploying on VMs is relatively simple. But for most of our customers, we implement physical clusters with at least three configured hosts using the existing model. So, it depends on the setup. Implementing DataProtect itself wasn't particularly challenging. One key requirement for successful DataProtect deployment is proper network configuration. If the network setup isn't right, you won't achieve optimal performance. We have developed a service for some of our customers where they implement an appliance or physical cluster of Cohesity at the customer site. Then, we use cloud clustering to replicate, and even in production, a second copy of the protected data. And in some cases, we have developed some disaster recovery procedures using Cohesity.

Pros

"I find Barracuda Essentials' dashboard incredibly valuable as it provides everything I need at a glance."
"If a customer faces an email security issue, we'll do some initial troubleshooting. If the issue isn't resolved, we work with the Barracuda team for further assistance."
"The most valuable functionality is their robust blocking feature, along with fundamental rules for our environment."
"It makes it easier for customers to access emails during security incidents."
"The ability to essentially instantly recover a VM and have it run on the Cohesity Platform while all those bits are technically being recovered in the background is useful to us."
"The restores are easy to do and have made it so that we can incorporate restores into our troubleshooting processes."
"I like that Cohesity offers the chance to have data on-premises and on the cloud. All the data is automatically sent to the cloud."
"The most valuable aspect for me is that I don't have to deal with media in terms of tapes like our existing system does."
"It's stable."
"Cohesity DataProtect is a reliable solution for performing backups within a suitable timeframe, and its forever incremental model is particularly effective for the customer's needs. Additionally, the solution handles instant recovery and file-level recovery from a VMware image backup seamlessly."
"I love the ability to clone a virtual server in only minutes."
"Cohesity is a cost-effective storage designed for secondary or archival data. It also integrates well with a number of other systems, like VMware, Pure Storage, or AWS with its large array of APIs available to the user."

Cons

"Enhancements are required on the data transmission front."
"They could implement scheduled reporting in the product."
"Sometimes there are minor issues that can be frustrating, but not consistently bad."
"There Is room for improvement in the quarantine and user interface."
"Add the ability to delete View Boxes and External Targets in the GUI."
"I would like to see Microsoft Exchange DAG supported as soon as possible."
"You need to put the full name instead of a few letters while searching for backup. It should also improve customization."
"The support team could do a better job. Sometimes finding the correct person is cumbersome and time consuming."
"Cohesity DataProtect takes hours to restore a single file, even a small one."
"There is limited support for legacy systems, which is something that could be improved."
"Since it is an evolving product, there are lot of frequent releases which require upgrades to be done every other weekend."
"Cohesity cluster upgrades have not been as easy as a single button click. They are a manual process that requires upgrading each node into a cluster individually."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product's price is higher than other vendors."
"It is cheaper compared to other products."
"Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
"The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
"I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"There is monthly licensing."
"Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
"Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day."
"Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption."
