Enhanced data quality with machine learning support in diverse environments
We used Ataccama ONE to read data from the mainframe for a data quality perspective. There's a significant lack in that area with tools being able to interface with mainframe. MetLife has a diverse environment, including DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, legacy, and vSAN files. Being able to work in these various environments and put them to a single data quality tool was very appealing. Additionally, Ataccama supported AI and machine learning, which was one of the features I liked. Furthermore, we were able to interface bidirectionally with Collibra for data governance, catching data quality issues before propagating through the system.

Modular structure and AI features stream new reporting processes
One of my clients has a requirement; they want to integrate metadata into the process, which means, for example, if I just want to implement a new field into my database, that field needs to be reflected throughout, let's say, 200 mappings. This highlights the need for a data-driven approach. My experience with technical support from Informatica is quite interesting; I would rate it as nine out of ten for Informatica PowerCenter kind of products or the Informatica integration products, because my team can do some hands-on using their free licenses or one-month kind of products. However, for products Master Data Management or related to MDM or Data Governance, there is no way by which we can directly practice, and my team struggles at that point.

Quick MVP development facilitated by low-code data management
Semarchy xDM's unique selling point is its quick turnover time, allowing for the rapid development of a proof of concept or minimum viable product. Its low-code approach, essentially a wrapper for SQL, enables easy and quick development. The core features include validation business rules, deduplication, merging, and consolidation from multiple sources.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The data profile itself is excellent. You can understand the quality of the data in layman's terms."
"The ease of use of the user console is valuable."
"Customer service was excellent, and I would give it a ten out of ten."
"The drag-and-drop feature is incredibly flexible and straightforward."
"The product’s important feature is data profiling and quality check."
"The notable aspect lies in the workflow structure, where building the workflow aligns significantly with data governance."
"The desktop version of the solution was particularly valuable to me, primarily for creating components. We opted for the data quality aspect to assess the quality of our data warehouse. The functionalities available allowed us to not only check data quality but also serve as an ETL tool. This versatility enabled data transformation and storage in various formats, including files on platforms like SharePoint or local online directories. The flexibility of the tool catered to the specific needs of those building components, contributing to our desired outcomes."
"It is also easy to deploy."
"The Mapping Designer allows for declarative ETL development (visual scripting) that leverages a wide array of different transformations."
"New tools are coming out that will enable you to achieve 90 percent of use cases with the out-of-the-box configuration, but I would like to keep Informatica tight here. Otherwise, you need a Java user edit course and other things to do multiple things that you cannot configure out of the box. They have to go through those use cases to do something if those can also be configured rather than coded."
"I am impressed by the solution's interface."
"The solution is stable."
"I do a quite a lot of data transformations, and the fact that I can do them without changing any of my SQL queries from the code, using the inbuilt tools, is very helpful."
"Axon has something called Overlay, which can be used to extend the technical lineage."
"It is a scalable product."
"The solution is stable."
"Semarchy xDM's unique selling point is its quick turnover time, allowing for the rapid development of a proof of concept or minimum viable product."
"Their documentation is excellent."
"The flexibility of Semarchy xDM allows for possible deployment on-premises, in the cloud, or both."

Cons

"It is complicated to fetch 20-25 reports when we profile the data."
"The interfacing to tools such as Collibra was somewhat cumbersome and required more thought."
"There is a notable challenge in having to provide detailed filters before the site recognizes the search criteria."
"Speaking specifically about the version we use, version 12.3, I'm unsure if this has been addressed in subsequent versions. One improvement I'd like to see pertains to the language used in certain components, especially in data quality checks. The language complexity posed a challenge for beginners. Although we had on-site assistance from Ataccama, making it manageable for us, some individuals found it difficult to comprehend, necessitating additional support. The provision of a comprehensive guide for on-premise installation can also be enhanced. The lack of detailed information on the solution's workings and the overwhelming nature of notifications, with extensive content, were areas of concern. Streamlining the notification content in newer versions would significantly expedite issue resolution."
"Data movement is a pain."
"I believe it would be beneficial if it could enhance its flexibility to connect with a wider range of downstream systems beyond just Excel and Postgres."
"Although DQA can fetch data from most of the commonly used data sources, it has limited modifiers to get data, meaning that the number of technologies from which the data can be acquired is limited. For example, DQA does not support fetching data from Twitter or Facebook. Many competitors have this feature."
"They could focus more on marketing the product. The current marketing strategy is not working."
"The model is somewhat flexible. There are certain aspects of the model that are not as flexible as we would like. It doesn't do certain things to a great level of depth. So, in situations where we want to drill in to do something specific, we have to essentially copy that data into our own structures in order to add that additional layer of flexibility."
"Informatica is very expensive."
"They need more feature flexibility, as it is not fully developed."
"The pricing model is problematic."
"There are also some technical issues sometimes with integrations because clients have a lot of different types of data sources."
"We currently have issues with real-time integration."
"It is more complicated to extract data using the product compared to Visio. The system could display the details on the screen."
"Some functionalities can be a challenge in the cloud."
"They need to make the workflow more enhanced or dynamic in its functionality."
"There is room for improvement in terms of local support."
"There is room for improvement in the developer experience, particularly for those who are SQL proficient, as having more direct access would be beneficial."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is no need to buy a license. You can just download it and use it for free."
"Our licensing model wasn't user-specific; instead, we paid fees for the engine and maintenance. As we didn't have a support contract, maintenance fees were likely nonexistent. Regarding the upgrade, we had an account for the initial two or three years, and considering the features provided by the solution, the pricing was reasonable."
"Despite not being extremely low-cost, the pricing appears reasonable, making it a profitable and viable choice for companies that prioritize data security and adhere to specific policies."
"The product is reasonably priced."
"The price of Informatica Cloud Data Integration could be reduced."
"Cost-wise, I think it is on the higher side, and that is why we are looking for some better options. Licensing costs are huge compared to other players in the market and for my company."
"I have heard from customers that the product comes with a huge license cost."
"Informatica MDM is very expensive. Apart from licensing fees, they have broken down their products into multiple products, and they charge for each and every product. If the data is huge, they charge for the data. At times, we have to use third party services for data cleaning, and they charge for that as well."
"The price is very high and has become a big concern for our customers who require the solution in order for their business to function smoothly."
"It is expensive. That's probably the biggest drawback. The business has heartache paying the license, but that's mainly because they don't realize what value it brings. The key thing about the MDM solution is that it is in the backend, and no one sees what it is actually doing. You don't know it is a problem until it is not there."
"Informatica Cloud Data Integration is famously known for its high price. The vendor targets large enterprises, and not medium or small companies. These large companies, and organizations, handle large amounts of data. If you go into any large bank, such as American or Canadian banks, these banks use this solution because it is more reliable, secure, and has more functionality."
"Informatica MDM is a costly solution because it comes as a bundle. They are also globally positioning themselves and are definitely working on very upgraded technologies. If someone wanted to do it on the cloud, they have a lot of flexibility because they upgrade themselves according to the current needs. It definitely comes with a lot of features and that's the reason why it's costly. The licensing cost should be approximately one million dollars. It's about four to five times that of other vendors."
