Affordable, easy to use, and offers good pricing
The solution is primarily used for the backup of the endpoints within our organization The solution has been very stable. It's quite easy to use and simple to navigate around. The performance has always been very good.  The pricing of the product is excellent. I wouldn't describe it as a…

NetApp has a nasty way of dealing with the license for the product's on-premises virtual NetApp appliance that you need in your whole architecture, and it is not directly linked to NetApp Cloud Backup. It is not a feature that I want to change in NetApp Cloud Backup because the cloud backup service is architectured in a way that makes it available to users, so it looks pretty good to me. When you go to the other side, you can see what you want to have on-premises for the main side in order to have backup in the cloud via NetApp Cloud Backup. With the on-premises part, you need to have either a physical NetApp or a virtual NetApp. You only have two options for primary storage from the network. In the physical cases, it is pretty straightforward as you have pricing and something like a grid with your NetApp. The sales representatives explain how much it will cost you to have some physical NetApp storage based on performance, types, and so on. The support contracts are for three or five years. When it comes to the virtual NetApp, you can run on top of an existing VMware tool or a recent cluster; it gets nasty because they do not let you change the licensed server. Once you deploy a virtual NetApp with a licensed server that you have on-premises, you migrate off from that, but NetApp does not let you change the licensed server, which should be really simple.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Virtual Disaster Recovery in version 13 is a game-changer, especially for VMWare shops."
"Since we have implemented Asigra we don’t have an administrator to do manual backup to tapes and external HDD; everything is automated and there are no hassles for the administrator."
"Flexibility really means a lot for us. Being able to address almost every client backup and recovery requirement means that we have a tremendous amount of confidence as do our partners that Blueshift is going to be able to deploy a solution quickly and efficiently."
"The agentless architecture has minimized our software footprint at the client level."
"There are two primary improvements of the Asigra platform with the recent version 13.1 SP1: Virtualization: a tremendous variety of data protection solutions for virtual machines, and Cloud-2-Cloud for Office 365, Google, Amazon, etc., making this a full package of data protection platform."
"I have found all the features useful in the solution."
"The solution has been very stable."
"Simplicity, very easy to restore user data, means that we don't have to request off site tapes to be delivered to the office, can easily access the cloud data and restore most data within minutes."
"One feature that works well for us is that the Cloud Manager is a completely agentless solution. There's a similar dashboard on both the versions for on-premises and the cloud, and with reference to the Cloud Manager, it's a little faster because there's nothing to be installed as such. Being agentless, it doesn't require any agent to be deployed on the targets where the backups are triggered."
"NetApp Cloud Backup performance is good and they have beneficial technology."
"I rate the scalability a ten out of ten...It has a great impact on our business because we have the infrastructure deployed globally on four continents around the world."
"One feature that works well for us is that the Cloud Manager is a completely agentless solution."
"NetApp is our go-to storage platform because of its flexibility, adaptability, and the different types of protocols it provides."
"NetApp Cloud Backup performance is good and they have beneficial technology."
"Scalability is very good."

Cons

"They should improve the malware scanning capabilities, extending it to protect cloud application data."
"They should have 24/7 support for customers in different time zones. They are slow to respond to requests, and I get the impression that the ServiceDesk is overloaded."
"The UI could do with a facelift."
"I wouldn't describe it as a scalable solution."
"At present, downloading the relevant files and placing them into a directory on the DS-System is a little cumbersome and open to error/malicious use."
"Some more work on reporting tools is required to help get better auto-generated information and analysis from the system."
"Customer services would be a 3 out of 5, simply due high turnover and lack of communication."
"The setup and configuration of this product is quite complex."
"One area that can be improved is around how we define the different KPIs. In particular, the business KPIs. I have my own in-house application for the business KPIs, so for example, with our policies around retention, which is a period of seven years, I have to read these parameters from other applications and I need them to integrate well."
"Integration and reporting could be improved."
"There are some integration challenges when it comes to this, and I've spoken to the support team who say they have the REST APIs, but the integration still isn't going as smooth as it could be."
"NetApp Cloud Backup could improve by being easier to use. Veeam solution is easier to use."
"NetApp Cloud Backup could improve by being easier to use. Veeam solution is easier to use."
"The cost of the product could be lower. The licensing fee is based on terabytes, which can add up quickly if you have a large capacity, but it can work well for both small and large customers."
"NetApp has a nasty way of dealing with the license for the product's on-premises virtual NetApp appliance that you need in your whole architecture, and it is not directly linked to NetApp Cloud Backup."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Asigra is priced competitively, but requires technical expertise to operate, optimize, and maintain its services."
"The price of Asigra could improve, it is expensive. We have purchased an annual license."
"Cost could be lower."
"NetApp Cloud Backup has a subscription-based model and it is paid annually."
"Our usage depends on the number of licenses we have. On the cloud, it's a pay-to-use kind of model which suits our needs well. Once we have the Cloud Manager installed, the licensing process is okay, regardless of whether we're running backups in the cloud or on-premises. Sometimes, we have to restrict the number of users as per the contractual agreement and in this case we simply cut down on the licensing."
"If one is not cost-effective and ten is a highly cost-effective product, I rate the tool as a three. The tool is not so cheap."
