Plenty of useful feature and reliable
We use Asigra for backups I have found all the features useful in the solution. I have been using Asigra for approximately two months. The solution is stable. The six people in our IT department are using the solution. The initial setup was a medium difficulty level. Some parts were complex…

Complex deployment has limited adoption but has provided structured backup management
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is very simple to deploy for us, but for more clients or competitors, the solution is hard to deploy and to integrate. For our team, deployment of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus may take a couple of days and longer if you have a complex customer solution. The deployment itself is not very lengthy, but the integration in production is more complicated. I assess the efficiency of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus's Advanced Snapshot Technology as not good because they change a lot of things. During multiple versions, we have experienced many changes in the product, and from the customer's view, it is not a good product because with each evolution, we encounter problems. We do not sell this product or advise this product. For SLA management features with IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, I utilize file level. SLA management is a good solution and a good idea, but the product does not work well, and customers do not adopt this product. I cannot assess the integration capability of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus using RESTful API. I cannot determine what benefit IBM Spectrum Protect Plus brings to the organization because we deployed this solution with one customer, and that customer changed the product after one or two years because the product is not stable and it changes with every version. The customer wanted to move away from this solution. The price of the product is good, but the solution does not adapt to the market. The market in France does not adopt IBM Spectrum Protect Plus.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution has been very stable."
"Flexibility really means a lot for us. Being able to address almost every client backup and recovery requirement means that we have a tremendous amount of confidence as do our partners that Blueshift is going to be able to deploy a solution quickly and efficiently."
"Asigra's agent-less capabilities make it a very convenient solution to implement."
"The cost is very reasonable; it's one of the cheapest options on the market, and any company can easily afford this product."
"Since we have implemented Asigra we don’t have an administrator to do manual backup to tapes and external HDD; everything is automated and there are no hassles for the administrator."
"It has helped us to provide comprehensive data protection with high recovery rates and a malware scanning feature."
"It allows our backup engineers to build great relationships with customers as they know their data is being protected by best-in-class software."
"The agentless architecture has minimized our software footprint at the client level."
"If you want to have a strong backup for recovery and restore, you need this solution."
"The licensing model of Spectrum Protect Plus is more efficient and cheaper compared to the original."
"We have experienced about an 80% savings in effort on our backups and satisfying data safety which makes us more efficient and improves our organization."
"The most valuable features are the API features because it allows you to integrate with your Microsoft SQL, your Oracle, and your IBM Db2."
"The support from IBM is very good."
"The most valuable features of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus are you have many possibilities on how to use it; we use it for backups and to create secondary and third copies, and it is possible to pick up Kubernetes containers and use a different cloud provider if you need to start backups on the cloud."
"We conducted a proof-of-concept on the customer side, and they found the product to be user-friendly and extremely useful."
"A full-featured data protection solution that is reliable and stable."

Cons

"The management could be a bit better."
"I wouldn't describe it as a scalable solution."
"More integration with leading storage solutions."
"The GUI isn't the slickest, because Asigra has opted to focus on features and capability over a shiny interface."
"Asigra's implementation and day-to-day costs are very high; necessary features can significantly increase the cost of implementation."
"Technical Support: 5/10, Due to different timezones it would always be difficult to get hold of a tech."
"They should improve the malware scanning capabilities, extending it to protect cloud application data."
"Personally speaking, I think the reporting should be more interactive."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus's software is easy to scale. However, if it is on-premise, you might need to purchase more storage to store more backups."
"Their first level of support can be improved. Often they are too junior to understand the issues we are having, and it takes too much time to get from them to the next level of support, which is what we actually need."
"Instead of using the command prompt for troubleshooting and administering the backup, there should be an easy-to-use graphical user interface."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve by adding SAP Rena."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could be made more lightweight and user-friendly in terms of GUI features to make it closer to a perfect score."
"We had an incident where we were unable to recover our data, and it was very bad."
"The tool needs to increase the number of threats."
"The security must be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Asigra is priced competitively, but requires technical expertise to operate, optimize, and maintain its services."
"The price of Asigra could improve, it is expensive. We have purchased an annual license."
"I rate the price of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus a one on a scale of one to ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is very cheap."
"The price is perpetual, but the maintenance cost is annual. That is, we pay once for the product and pay annually for the maintenance and support. The price was much cheaper than what we would have had to pay for EMC or Veritas. The pricing is competitive, and I would rate it at four out of five."
"Unlike some other solutions, such as Veritas NetBackup where you have to pay for different licenses to use different features, there is a single license that allows you to use all of the features."
"The price offering from IBM is coming down because it is based on number of VM machines. So, IBM is coming to the market to show the added value of the product."
"In addition to the standard licensing fees, we paid for implementation and training."
"The initial cost of the product is perpetual but the support fees are billed annually."
"We have a perpetual license for the tool since it is deployed on-premise."
"Clients prefer to buy a perpetual license, but the majority opt for a yearly subscription."
