Strong technical support and effective toolset improve workflow but setup process requires refinement
I have experience with Nintex and K2, but I do not have experience with Unqork. I am specialized in Microsoft products such as Power Automate and Power Apps. I have knowledge of Microsoft Intune and Defender, along with certain Azure components. I work for an organization as a presales architect, proposing solutions to customers. I am familiar with Microsoft Defender for Identity, for Business, and for IoT, though I haven't worked extensively on that. I have a conceptually good understanding of it. I'm mostly working on Microsoft collaboration tools, which include SharePoint and Power Platform tools. I have been dealing mostly with Microsoft, but also with other vendors. Regarding database services, we typically use SQL server services. We have not used Amazon RDS; typically, we use PostgreSQL or MySQL. On the Azure side, I work with Azure Database services including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Cosmos. I was previously working as an architect for U3Soft and am currently working with Birlasoft (B I R L A S O F T). My overall rating for Amazon API Gateway is 8 out of 10.

The ability to configure rules to check for consistency has helped
Apiary provides a free tier of the platform which allows a small group of developers to collaborate easily on the design of open source APIs. In addition to this, it provides mock endpoints allowing people to experiment with the API without depending or having to stand up a real backend. With our clients, using Apiary allows us to very quickly pull together an API definition (particularly when using API Blueprint). The whole API design process for the simpler use cases can be done in a relatively short workshop which makes it a lot easier to agree, publish, version-manage an API definition with suitable documentation. This can then be evolved and enhanced (particularly in the documentation aspects). With the ability to support Swagger (Open API v2 and introducing/ed support for v3) and API Blueprint makes it a very versatile tool.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature in Amazon API Gateway is the itinerary release."
"We would definitely recommend sticking to native solutions because then you have one Hyperscale provider supporting the applications, storage, compute, and APIs."
"The solution is user-friendly."
"Integrating API Gateway with other AWS services was easy. It worked out of the box, so it worked perfectly."
"Amazon API Gateway can integrate with ECS and Lambda."
"A most valuable feature of Amazon API Gateway is how quickly we can connect to backend services and have APIs accessible from anywhere."
"Amazon API Gateway is a scalable solution; we have integrated into probably eight different areas and we probably process over 100,000 contracts a day through it."
"It is a stable solution."
"Quick and easy way to share a new API design with teams."
"I find the generation of mock services very useful, especially when demonstrating for new consumers."
"Vey high - very easy API design with no setup effort"
"In two years, there was one time the service was down for an hour or so."
"Git integration"
"This solution has allowed us to standardize API definitions and bring consistency into our shared components, reducing the effort and cost of using functionality across domains within the organization, with Apiary being crucial to our good API strategy."
"I do like the overall performance of the solution."
"Quick and easy way to share a new API design with teams."

Cons

"Amazon API Gateway will wait for only 30 seconds to get a response from other services, such as the Lambda function."
"The tool's UI requires time to understand."
"It would be useful to have a more complete development environment for the developer, with different integrative capabilities to manage all the life cycles for the API."
"From a use cases perspective, you need to have an internal and external gateway. AWS can only handle external traffic so has to be used together with another solution."
"One of the problems with using this solution is that you have to know a lot about the Amazon ecosystem, in terms of services, to be able to use it."
"We faced a few issues with the documentation."
"Currently, I'm not facing any issues with Amazon API Gateway, which satisfies my requirements. I'm pretty happy with what Amazon API Gateway offers, but as its pricing is on the higher side, that's one area for improvement in the solution. What I'd like to see in the next release of Amazon API Gateway is an improvement in the status checks you get from the monitoring feature of the solution. Currently, you get the number of requests received, the number of reports, etc., but if there are more details than what's given by Amazon API Gateway, that will improve the solution."
"Like most Amazon services, and this one's the same, you're expected to effectively do your own support, and any other support is by emails, so it's quite limited."
"I don't think this solution is very stable so we try to manage stability from our side."
"I would like an integrated option to download a Swagger version of the definition."
"Validation messages could be a bit clearer."
"The Oracle release cycle is very bad because the patches only update once a year."
"I would like an integrated option to download a Swagger version of the definition."
"Swagger (OpenAPI Specification) and Blueprint Support"
"Better Swagger support."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Fees are volume-based."
"The product is a little expensive."
"The product is expensive."
"The product can be described as a medium-priced solution, but its cost is higher than Azure."
"I rate the tool's price as seven on a scale of one to ten, where one means low price and ten means high price."
"It's cost-effective, even as our workload and the number of APIs we manage have increased."
"The solution's pricing is cheap and based on the number of requests coming to Amazon API Gateway."
"My understanding is that it easily goes to $14,000 or $15,000 USD each month for each account, and we have several such accounts."
"It is easy to get started with personal (free) accounts, but a subscription is required for additional features."
"There is a free subscription option to start and try the service."
