A great virtual desktop that's easy to expand and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "With this product, everyone can have a similar kind of desktop environment."
  • "If there are connectivity issues, there are stability issues."

What is our primary use case?

If you have a desktop, laptop, or device that can be distributed to end users, to any kind of inconsistency in the institution, we deploy the solution so that anybody can get whatever resource is required. It helps ensure access. It makes it easy for us to give storage, memory, RAM, or processor resources without anything affecting their day-to-day activity. It makes it simple and easy for our institution to provide the kind of activity to the users.

What is most valuable?

The product is ideal for sharing an application for different resources. For instance, let's say we have a Microsoft Office product and want to share the Microsoft Office product with everyone simultaneously. That can easily be done.

With this product, everyone can have a similar kind of desktop environment. So it's a virtual environment, the desktop environment. They can do whatever they need in that environment, and different kinds of users can access different kinds of applications.

The product is scalable.

What needs improvement?

If there are connectivity issues, there are stability issues.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and reliable. However, it depends on the network infrastructure. If we have a stable network infrastructure, then it's stable. That said, if the infrastructure is not stable, I don't recommend this product. If there is an interruption, it might not actually be available to the user, which could cause issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

Right now, we have 1,100 virtual workspaces, and we are planning to add 1,500 more.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We do not use a different type of service right now.

How was the initial setup?

In terms of handling the setup process, we need planning since it is a bit complex. We need to know the infrastructure itself. The hardware resources can also be a bit expensive, and the licensing might also depend on the number of users that the organization has. Therefore, it is a bit expensive, the initial deployment. The cost of RAM after the deployment is much less.

It needs a proper professional to deploy everything. It also requires the engagement of Citrix. Three to six months is enough to deploy it as the hardware might first actually need to be available. Still, once you have that resource, deploying Citrix also might take additional time.

While internally, it can be managed by an in-house staff, the deployment cannot. It requires proper capacity building to do even the deployment. It is a little bit challenging, so I recommend the setup be done by the consultant.

What about the implementation team?

The initial setup requires a specific supplier or consultant to handle everything. It can't be done in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In January 2020 they changed the licensing scheme and they're also changing the on-prem licensing scheme to be subscription-based as well. It can be tricky. I don't know why they did that. Maybe it's the marketing strategy. I don't know. The subscription is for three years or five years. If you procure three years subscription, you can use the license, after three years, they'll block it, which can be a challenge if you aren't paying attention to when licensing renewals are due.

What other advice do I have?

We last updated about a year ago. We are on the 2021 version.

I recommend the solution, however, it depends on the organization's use case. Let's say if that organization needs to share the resource equally through the users or staff they have, then I recommend it.

I'd rate it nine out of ten.

High security, reliable, and low maintance
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Citrix Workspace is its security."
  • "The Citrix Workspace interface could improve. Additionally, if they are able to provide a mobile application"

What is our primary use case?

We are using Citrix Workspace for the people who are roaming employees, those who rarely come to the office and access applications and data from outside the office.

How has it helped my organization?

Citrix Workspace has benefited organizations from the security extension after implementing it.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Citrix Workspace is its security.

What needs improvement?

The Citrix Workspace interface could improve. Additionally, if they are able to provide a mobile application

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix Workspace for over six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Citrix Workspace is quite a stable solution provided it is implemented as part of best practices provided by Citrix Workspace. If any of the organizations are not following the best practices, they are bound to have, challenges with regard to stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Citrix Workspace can be scalable. However, the scalability of the solution depends on how it has been implemented. If the implementation is done, keeping scalability in mind, it would be scalable. If scalability has not been considered at the time of implementing the solution, then any organization is going to find it difficult to scale.

We have approximately 100 users using Citrix Workspace in my organization.

How are customer service and support?

My experience with the support from Citrix Workspace mix and match experience. Earlier, it used to be a good experience, but over a period of time, there have been a lot of changes within Citrix.

I rate the support from  Citrix Workspace a four out of five.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Citrix Workspace is a bit of a complex process, which should be made easier in the future. If somebody's looking to extend the reach of this solution, then the implementation of this has to be super easy. It should be very easy that would make somebody wants to use Citrix Workspace on a regular basis for their personal use. Security is something that is and is going to be a big concern for everybody down the line.

The length of time it takes to implement Citrix Workspace depends on how complex the environment is. If it is a project with very minimum applications to be published through the Citrix Workspace, then it can take approximately 15 days to one month to complete.

If it is a complex environment where there are multiple applications posted on different platforms with multiple application stacks, that may take up to three months time or even more than that in some cases.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was done in-house.

Citrix Workspace doesn't acquire any specific maintenance, but if we want to reduce the maintenance overhead from the organization's point of view, to do that, we can try to make it easy for end-user to use it, such as not raising tickets to IT teams to sort out. They should be able to resolve their issue. In most of the cases, I have seen that the issues are related to end-user only.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution could be less expensive. There are different versions to their solution and the price keeps increasing.

What other advice do I have?

If someone is trying to enable their employees to work from anywhere without compromising security, I would recommend a Citrix Workspace.

I rate Citrix Workspace an eight out of ten.

Everything requires improvement, nothing is perfect. Everyone should consider improvement.

Secure, simple implementation, and efficient
Pros and Cons
  • "Citrix Workspace can present desktop applications with ease, in an efficient and secure manner. The performance is good, it is a great piece of software."
  • "Citrix Workspace can improve by being more secure, but this would apply to any solution not only Citrix Workspace."

What is our primary use case?

Citrix Workspace can be deployed in the cloud and on-premise.

What is most valuable?

Citrix Workspace can present desktop applications with ease, in an efficient and secure manner. The performance is good, it is a great piece of software.

What needs improvement?

Citrix Workspace can improve by being more secure, but this would apply to any solution not only Citrix Workspace.

There are times when the Citrix client is updated with a poor release. The update can effectively knock out aspects that were working previously. You can go one step forward, but two steps back. They will go through a period of having some very good software releases and then they will stop completely. It will take a couple more releases to get back everything that was negatively impacted.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Citrix Workspace within the last 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Citrix Workspace is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

I have not had to contact the support from Citrix Workspace.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing of Citrix Workspace is worth it. However, it is expensive. Citrix is probably more competitive now than VMware, but it is still a costly solution.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated VMware.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others is the initial installation is always straightforward, it's the second phase that you need a lot of good assistance or a lot of assistance to get it working right or working well. If you go into it thinking you can learn as you go, it's not that kind of solution. It is similar to VMware. The whole element about it is that installing the solution is easy and getting things up and running is not a problem, but getting it to work well in the environment requires a lot of expertise and you need to pay the money to get that to work well.

I rate Citrix Workspace a ten out of ten.

Fast set up, easy to install, with responsive support
Pros and Cons
  • "The feature that I like is that it is fast."
  • "The lag when using Skype or Screen Sharing with multiple users needs to improve, as it makes it difficult for us to continue when we have to restart the system."

What is our primary use case?

We use Citrix Workspace to login into our system.

We have several users and there are standards in the installation process because of the security. They have found that various systems with standard installations, restricting users to go ahead and install on their own.

Everything is managed through the infrastructure. ServiceNow is used for the CCM.

Everything is automated machine creations and installations. They take care of the machines with regular updates on weekends.

Everything is automated here, and there is no manual intervention for setting up any system if a new user is hired.

What is most valuable?

The feature that I like is that it is fast. For example, if I am new to the company, setting up systems can take up a lot of time, but, having standard automation in place allows this user to have the same set of software installed on his or her machine.

The only area that takes some time is that it requires us to get the approval. Once the approval is given, the system with everything is installed as a prerequisite.

Because it's a prerequisite, it's a standard installation in all the systems, there are no discrepancies because everything is standard, it's automated. If I am using a particular version, it will be the same version in my colleague's system.

It's very easy.

What needs improvement?

Performance is an area that can be improved. The meetings that use Skype in Workspace will lag when they run long or we screen share. At times, it is slow when there are multiple users on the server.

When it lags, we restart it to get it resolved. If multiple users are using a single server it will lag.

The lag when using Skype or Screen Sharing with multiple users needs to improve, as it makes it difficult for us to continue when we have to restart the system.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix Workspace for almost one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable, however, there are version discrepancies. For example, a new version of Citrix has become available and I am using the old version of Citrix the new version is not compatible with the Media version, which creates problems when using Skype or any video meeting.

Lag is something that we observe frequently, but it can be resolved because we have a guideline page that shows us the versions that should be compatible with our systems or Windows Operating System, and the Media Version, which is the Citrix HDX Realtime Media Version, should also be compatible with the Citrix Workstation that we are using. If both are good your system will work well.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's a scalable solution and everyone in the organization uses it. We have more than 15,000 users.

We plan to continue to use Citrix Workspace.

How are customer service and technical support?

I do not have experience with technical support. I have a PoC team that deals with them. They are quick to resolve issues.

We just need to create a ticket and ask for support.

Ther support is good and they are quick to respond and resolve issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used A3 Machine, which was replaced by Citrix Workspace.

How was the initial setup?

It is easy to install. There is a link provided on our homepage for login.

We just need to install it and restart the system.

It is very fast. It took half an hour or so.

What other advice do I have?

Azure Desktop has been released and we will be using this along with Citrix Workspace. When we want to use something, we need to first have Citrix Workspace.

I have Citrix Workspace and on top of that, I can use Microsoft Azure Desktop, which may allow me to program in that machine. Citrix Workspace is the base and it works fine with most of our products.

Definitely, I would recommend Citrix Workspace to others who are interested in using it. It's very handy, portable, fast, and easy to install. Also, it is the standard amongst all users.

I would encourage everybody to use Citrix Workspace.

We are quite satisfied. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Easy to setup and deploy, scalable, with good connectivity for remote connection
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is connectivity. The remote connection is the reason we are using this solution."
  • "This solution is resource-intensive, it takes a lot of Bandwidth and a lot of the resources of the server."

What is our primary use case?

I am using Citrix Workspace when I work from home. I use Citrix to remote in.

How has it helped my organization?

Since COVID, we are able to work. That is how half the state is functioning right now, is through remoting in through Citrix Workspace.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is connectivity. The remote connection is the reason we are using this solution.

We have other in-house software that we use to fix our issues.

What needs improvement?

This solution is resource-intensive, it takes a lot of Bandwidth and a lot of the resources of the server.

In the next release, I would like to see it support dual monitors.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix Workspace for the last seven months, since March.

We are using the latest version and we just completed an upgrade.

I support the helpdesk and use this solution to remote into other users' PCs to help them with their issues, such as word processing, email issues, and things of that nature.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's stable, providing you have the bandwidth to run it. Also, it depends on your internet provider.

It's not really glitchy. It's just that if you have the bandwidth to run it.

We have at least 25,000 to 30,000 users using it in this state.

We have directors, we have nurses, and we have doctors. We even have our state schools on it. It's like everybody that works for the state is using it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's a scalable solution, I have no issues with it.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have never had to use technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have never used another solution. This is the first time we've ever had this situation come up, and the first time that I've ever had to work from home and remote in.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was pretty easy.

All that you have to do is download the Workspace app to your home computer, and you have to load the receiver onto your work computer and connect.

What other advice do I have?

For others who are interested in using this solution, I would say try it, go with it. It's not a bad product. Just make sure that you have the bandwidth to run it, and a decent PC, because it is resource-intensive.

I would rate Citrix Workspace a nine out of ten.

Helped to continue our operations, but there have been speed and reliability issues
Pros and Cons
  • "Getting access to the applications for which we otherwise have to be on-site is probably the biggest advantage"
  • "We're running into all kinds of speed issues and reliability issues. There are frequent disconnects, and we're not sure whether that's a problem with the product, with the way the product has been deployed, or with server capacity or bandwidth. Our IT department pays attention to that, but we are feeling the impact of that."

What is our primary use case?

We've hybrid workers who work from home up to three days a week or four days a week in some cases. The staff is basically using Citrix as a solution to access all of the data and apps that they would need in order to do the work they do. We've got mostly data workers and analyst types working in our group. Others within the hospital use it for different purposes. I use it occasionally when I'm working from home or remotely. I'm not a frequent user like my staff.

How has it helped my organization?

It has given us access remotely. I work at a hospital. So, we had rules about limiting access to the hospital site for people who didn't need to be here to basically safeguard our clinical staff and other staff from exposure to COVID. It was a call to action to ensure that as many staff as possible could work from home safely. We were able to continue our operations relatively uninterrupted using Citrix. Since that time, we still have some restrictions in place, but we're pivoting back to hybrid work over the last year or so, and we'll likely continue that in the future.

What is most valuable?

Getting access to the applications for which we otherwise have to be on-site is probably the biggest advantage.

What needs improvement?

We're running into all kinds of speed issues and reliability issues. There are frequent disconnects, and we're not sure whether that's a problem with the product, with the way the product has been deployed, or with server capacity or bandwidth. Our IT department pays attention to that, but we are feeling the impact of that.

It also gets a little dodgy when we're having to work remotely. We don't necessarily have all of the full functions that we would have with some of our in-hospital systems. There are times when we have gaps, but that's simply because our IT department hasn't set up all of the applications that we would normally have access to. So, that's not a Citrix problem as much as it is the way it has been deployed.

We're pivoting away from Workspace. We're being told we're going to get some of the newer, more robust tools that Citrix offers. That's where we're heading right now. We're not quite sure. We're hopeful that it's going to make some significant improvements for us and make work quite a bit easier, but we'll wait and see.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using various versions of it for a number of years. We transitioned to Workspace at the start of COVID. There were some upgrades done.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Based on the deployment we have, I would rate it a six out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our IT department would know about its scalability.  In our organization, I don't know the number of users we have, but I know that in our department, we have 17 people using it. We've got 3,000 staff and about 2,000 workers every day. Probably 200 or so are working remotely right now.

How are customer service and support?

We don't deal with technical support ourselves. We use our own. Our IT department provides tech support for us.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've personally used some VPN solutions in the past. I know our IT department uses a VPN solution, but I don't know which one it is.

How was the initial setup?

I didn't set it up. In terms of its deployment model, it's on-premises. We're running it on virtual servers in our office. It is on our server farm here.

What about the implementation team?

I would imagine it was implemented in-house. We don't usually use third parties for doing that sort of work.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise being mindful of what you need and ensuring that the functionality that you need is built into it, and the tool is capable of providing it. I would also advise ensuring that the deployment addresses it so that you're not left with missing functionality.

I would rate it a seven out of ten.

Simple to use with the ability to connect remotely
Pros and Cons
  • "Ability to connect remotely."
  • "Integration with other vendors could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

My use case for this product is to connect to secure environments. I'm the owner of the company and a user of Workspace.

What is most valuable?

This is a simple solution and I like that I can connect remotely.

What needs improvement?

I think there could be better integration with other vendors. If you install it on  a Mac, you get a message to say it's not working properly. I'm not sure why they'd develop a product not supported by Mac.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I believe the solution is stable.

What other advice do I have?

The solution works as expected and I rate it 10 out of 10.
