Immediate results in patching promptly address vulnerabilities
When working with Tanium, there are some older devices that haven't been patched for a long time, and certain patches are not included in Tanium. I have to search outside to download patches, create bundles, and then perform the task. It would be easier if Tanium provided the patches directly. Some other brands provide the patch with a direct download link, which facilitates the process. Also, I feel that if there were more detailed documents and remediations readily available online for troubleshooting, especially more up-to-date information, it would be beneficial. Currently, some resources online are very out-of-date.

Automation and technical support impress with seamless migration and high availability management
We are in the process of implementing Zerto, which is currently in the purchase order phase. While we haven't fully implemented it yet, we have completed the POC. We use VMware vCenter and ESXi. The solution manages high availability effectively, with excellent automation for migration and patch management. The support is good, though the recent license change after the Broadcom acquisition has significantly increased costs. Patch management is controllable and can be managed individually, with automatic downloads available. We use it primarily for managing hosts and updates, without any integration. The performance is excellent, running very smoothly. I rate VMware vCenter a 9 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Threat hunting is a very good feature on Tanium. We have just started using it and have not used it extensively."
"Tanium's most valuable features are patch management, inventory, and distribution software."
"The interrogation piece was the most valuable feature because it was very detailed."
"For incident response tasks, all these tasks can get done in minutes with minimal disruption to the end-user."
"When I push a quick update, it's done right away, and I can rescan immediately to confirm completion within minutes."
"The security features are very valuable."
"I find the inventory and compliance features of Tanium to be the most impressive."
"I'm not so familiar with the tool but I like the interaction of the console to the picture. Patching is the primary model I have been focusing on for the last couple of weeks. So I have created a proof of concept environment and have been checking the available features."
"The most valuable features of VMware vCenter for our organization include its centralized management capabilities and the ability to handle virtual machines across multiple ESXi hosts efficiently."
"It is easier to manage a larger number of nodes per cluster. Currently, if we are managing a minimum of 64 nodes in a single cluster, that capacity can be increased."
"I usually use the DRS, distributed resource scheduling, to balance resources between mini ESXi and CPU."
"The initial setup is a very user-friendly process. Installation and configuration are easy."
"The tool is helpful because it gives us excellent control, maximizing server usage and resources. We can create numerous virtual machines and servers that host many services. Overall, we have had a very good experience. The most valuable feature for us is its elasticity. We can easily ramp up resources and bring in more processes for specific workloads, which was a nightmare earlier. This ability to extend resource availability for virtual users is particularly beneficial."
"The user-friendliness and stability are the product’s most valuable features."
"The high availability feature is particularly valuable when a host goes down or experiences high usage, as it automatically migrates VMs to other hosts to balance performance."
"We manage practically everything using the solution."

Cons

"We had some issues with the solution's OS upgrade."
"The performance could improve in future releases. We have had performance issues in specialized web environments, but overall I think the problems are less than 2% of the computer systems being used."
"Tanium’s scalability could be improved."
"There are some bugs in the product. The tool needs to improve in the area of reporting."
"It is not really additional functions, or the features that are needed, rather the complexity would be reduced based on the number of modules required to put together a comprehensive operational security and risk compliance model."
"They could improve the UI."
"I would like to have more integrations and custom plugins to input. Integration is always a big deal in a lot of different environments."
"The solution needs to improve the reporting and tracking capabilities."
"The technical support team could respond faster."
"The solution’s pricing could be improved."
"VMware vCenter is an expensive product. Its price needs improvement."
"The monitoring features are limited."
"The product should improve its storage. It's not necessarily about needing more storage but improving how it handles technology. We believe there could be more effective ways to manage it in our user environment. It should also look into network management."
"There is a feature called Fault Tolerance (FT), which has been part of vCenter servers since the product's inception. However, it has a lot of complexity, and when my team tested it, we found it difficult to manage. It also has some bugs. Consequently, we decided not to offer any fault tolerance features to our customers."
"VMware vCenter does not have a centralized security dashboard, and it is pretty tedious to configure."
"If VMware integrates some features of their other solution into VMware vCenter, operational managers might find it beneficial. Many organizations prefer to maintain separate solution sets based on specific needs and data requirements."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive but it's a good investment."
"Tanium is a more expensive solution in Latin America than some of the competitors, such as BigFix."
"It's an expensive solution. It would be nice if the cost were lower."
"There is an annual license required to use this solution."
"The product's pricing differs from region to region depending on negotiations and the number of endpoints."
"It is higher than some competitors in the market."
"The solution offers value for money."
"The platform has reasonable pricing."
"The product is affordable for now."
"VMware vCenter is not expensive."
"We utilize the basic licenses of the product."
"The solution is expensive."
"The platform is expensive."

"The solution is pretty expensive for small businesses because there are few lower-scale VMware vCenter solutions."
