Unmatched Performance and Scalability for Modern Applications
Redis has room for improvement in a few areas. Enhanced tools for managing and monitoring clusters would be beneficial, as would built-in security mechanisms like advanced encryption and granular access controls. Simplifying setup and configuration could make Redis more accessible to new users. Introducing more enterprise-grade features, such as better multi-tenancy support and improved backup and restore capabilities, would also be advantageous. For the next release, it would be great to see enhanced cluster management tools, native multi-region supports for better data redundancy, integrated analytics for deeper insights, AI and ML integration features, and improved developer experience through enhanced SDKs and tools.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The in-memory data makes it fast."
"The online interface is very fast and easy to use."
"The product offers fast access to my database."
"It is particularly efficient for cloud-based storage and operations."
"I find Redis valuable primarily for its caching capabilities, particularly in handling cache requests effectively. Its simplicity in managing key-value pairs for caching is one of its strengths, making it a preferred choice over more complex databases like MongoDB for specific use cases. However, I haven't explored Redis extensively for managing complex data structures beyond caching, as MongoDB might be more suitable for such scenarios."
"The solution is fast, provides good performance, and is not too expensive."
"I use Redis mostly to cache repeated data that is required."
"Redis acts as an in-memory search tool that improves the speed of operations."
"Vertica's most outstanding features are the compression rates achieved and the speed of access of high volume data."
"Speed and resiliency are probably the best parts of this product."
"The most valuable feature of Vertica is the unmatchable database performance."
"Initiate on one node, and the RPM propagates automatically to all other nodes. "
"The performance is very good and the aggregate records are fast."
"DBAs don’t need to add a partition every month/quarter like with other DBs."
"It maximize cloud economics for mission-critical big data analytical initiatives."
"It's the fastest database I have ever tested. That's the most important feature of Vertica."

Cons

"There are some features from MongoDB that I would like to see included in Redis to enhance its overall efficiency, such as the ability to perform remote behaviour. MongoDB is more efficient in handling updates than deletions and is quicker in processing updates, but it can be slower regarding deletions. This can sometimes pose a challenge, especially when dealing with large datasets or frequent data manipulations that involve deletions. In such cases, I often rewrite columns or update values instead of directly deleting data, as it can be more efficient."
"Redis could improve its efficiency in handling locally stored data, not just Amazon Cloud or Google Cloud."
"The initial setup of Redis was difficult, with a rating of two or three out of ten."
"Redis could be improved by introducing a GUI to display key-value pair database information, as it is currently a CLI tool with no visual representation."
"The only thing is the lack of a GUI application. There was a time when we needed to resolve an issue in production. If we had a GUI, it would have been easier."
"The initial setup took some time as our technical team needed to familiarize themselves with Redis."
"I would prefer it if there was more information available about Redis. That would make it easier for new beginners. Currently, there is a lack of resources."
"Redis presents a single point of failure and lacks fault tolerance."
"In a future release, we would like to have artificial intelligence capabilities like neural networks. Customers are demanding this type of analytics."
"The biggest problem is the cost of cloud deployment."
"They could improve on customer service."
"Vertica's native cloud support could be improved, and its installation could be made easier."
"Monitoring tools need to be lightweight. They should not take up heavy resources of the main server."
"I have found that coding support could be simplified."
"It's hard to make it slow for a small data volume. For large volumes, it's hard to make it work. It's also hard to make it faster, and to make it scale."
"If you do not utilize the tuning tools like projections, encoding, partitions, and statistics, then performance and scalability will suffer."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is open-source. There are no additional costs."
"We saw an ROI. It made the processing of our transactions faster."
"Redis is an open-source solution. There are not any hidden fees."
"Redis is not an overpriced solution."
"Redis is an open-source product."
"I think it's starting to get a little expensive. Open source products are starting to get more robust, so I think that's something that they need to start looking at in terms of licensing."
"Vertica is an expensive tool."
"The pricing depends on the license model because there are several. It depends on the client, but it's cheaper than other solutions. I think it's cheap for all the functionality and robustness. It's not very expensive to deploy."
"From a cost perspective, the software is less than most of its competitors."
"It is fast to purchase through the AWS Marketplace."
"The price could be cheaper and it is best to negotiate the price."
"Read the fine print carefully."
"It's difficult today to compete with open-source solutions. In these areas, there is a lot of competition and the price of this solution is a bit pricy."
