Allows customers to manage SAN and NAS data within a single storage solution
The tool's most valuable features are the SnapLock and SnapMirror features. If something goes wrong with the data, we can restore it. This isn't a mirror; we store data in different locations. If there's an issue on the primary site, we can retrieve data from the secondary site. Multiprotocol support in NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP is beneficial because it allows customers to manage SAN and NAS data within a single storage solution. This feature eliminates the need to purchase different types of storage.

Offers reliable and cost-effective backups with impressive stability
We use Wasabi to back up all of our WordPress sites. Anytime we have a new website, it's just easy to add it The cost is low, it is foolproof, and it has redundancy. We have never had an outage, and it is very reliable and stable. Since it is so inexpensive, it does not impact our profit…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are definitely in the process of reducing our footprint on our secondary data center and all those snapshots technically reduce tape backup. That's from the protection perspective, but as far as files, it's much easier to use and manage and it's faster, too."
"The tool's most valuable features are the SnapLock and SnapMirror features. If something goes wrong with the data, we can restore it. This isn't a mirror; we store data in different locations. If there's an issue on the primary site, we can retrieve data from the secondary site."
"I like how you can easily pair on-prem with the cloud and the cloud backup feature. I like the whole integration with on-prem and the cloud for SnapMirror relationships."
"One of the most valuable features is its similarity to the physical app, which makes it familiar. It's almost identical to a real NetApp, which means you can run all of the associated NetApp processes and services with it. Otherwise, we would definitely have to deploy some hardware on a site somewhere, which could be a challenge in terms of CapEx."
"The solution’s Snapshot copies and thin clones in terms of operational recovery are the best thing since sliced bread. Rollback is super easy. It's just simple, and it works. It's very efficient."
"The solution’s unified file and block-storage access across our infrastructure is invaluable. Without it, we can't do what we do."
"Multiprotocol is the most valuable because Amazon was not able to provide us with access to the same data from Linux and from Windows clients. That was our value proposition for CVO, Cloud Volumes ONTAP."
"NetApp's Cloud Manager automation capabilities are very good because it's REST-API-driven, so we can completely automate everything. It has a good overview if you want to just have a look into your environment as well."
"The tool is very user-friendly."
"Wasabi is an easy-to-use solution."
"We can store our videos on hot storage, allowing immediate access to them."
"The cost is low, it is foolproof, and it has redundancy."
"Overall, I would rate Wasabi a ten out of ten."
"The initial setup is straightforward."
"The most valuable feature of Wasabi is the backups."
"Basically, I set Wasabi up and forget it. I'll monitor it every once in a while just to make sure that it's working correctly."

Cons

"The navigation on some of the configuration parameters is a bit cumbersome, making the learning curve on functions somewhat steep."
"I think the challenge now is more in terms of keeping an air gap. The notion that it is in the cloud, easy to break, etc. The challenge now is mostly about the air gap and how we can protect that in the cloud."
"The product is more restricted with underlying cloud."
"I rate the scalability a five out of ten."
"We want to be able to add more than six disks in aggregate, but there is a limit of the number of disks in aggregate. In GCP, they provide less by limiting the sixth disk in aggregate. In Azure, the same solution provides 12 disks in an aggregate versus GCP where it is just half that amount. They should bump up the disk in aggregate requirement so we don't have to migrate the aggregate from one to another when the capacities are full."
"I would like to see more information about Cloud Volumes ONTAP using Google Cloud Platform on NetApp's website."
"They definitely need to stay more on top of security vulnerabilities. Our security team is constantly finding Java vulnerabilities and SQL vulnerabilities. Our security team always wants the latest security update, and it takes a while for NetApp to stay up to speed with that. That would be my biggest complaint."
"I would like some more performance matrices to know what it is doing. It has some matrices inherent to the Cloud Volumes ONTAP. But inside Cloud Manager, it would also be nice to see. You can have a little Snapshot, then drill down if you go a little deeper."
"The solution must allow the extension of the retention period."
"I don't have enough experience to understand the nuances of where they might improve."
"The scalability could improve."
"Wasabi could be cheaper."
"The most important improvement we would like to see in Wasabi is the ability to find files and folders easily on the platform, as it is not very easy at all right now."
"The scalability could be improved."
"Having the ability to upload and download data using third-party apps such as Mega which can sync to the desktop would be excellent."
"The solution’s user reporting could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was good, but it was a test system, not a real purchase."
"Our licensing costs are folded into the hardware purchases and I have never differentiated between the two."
"Cost is a big factor, because a lot of companies can't afford enterprise grade equipment all the time. They skimp where they can. I would recommend that they improve the cost."
"For enterprise customers, it's a very cost effective. But in the SMB segment, yeah, pricing is a little bit challenge for your time."
"The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable."
"Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration."
"Our licensing is based on a yearly subscription. That is an additional cost, but because of the storage efficiencies that the NetApp gives, even with the additional cost of the NetApp license, you still end up saving money versus straight Azure native for storage. It's definitely worth it."
"They have a very good price which keeps our customers happy."
"Wasabi has better pricing than Nutanix."
"The price of the solution is inexpensive."
"I can only tell you that Wasabi costs about half what Amazon Web Services is charging. Now, the cost per month is a more difficult question. That varies depending on the capacity, the services you're employing, and that type of thing."
"The tool’s price is very reasonable."
"Wasabi is a cheap solution, and users have to pay for a monthly license."
"Wasabi is a cost-effective solution for data storage, priced at just under six dollars per terabyte."
"The price is reasonable."
