Experience has shown effective features for analysis, but needs interface improvements
The most effective features of MicroStrategy for data analysis are those that cater to user needs. However, I find Power BI to be more useful when comparing some features, but my company does not choose Power BI due to certain code restrictions. The MicroStrategy interface is not as good as Power BI, especially concerning the user-friendly aspects.

User-friendly solution but data modelling could be simplified
So far, it looks stable for us. One other good thing is that the platform is software as a subscription, and Oracle regularly releases updates. They are quarterly and are fairly updated; they don't really introduce any new features without informing customers in advance about the upcoming releases. So they're constantly improving it, and there is a regular upgrade. I'm like, "You know, you need to do a version upgrade and optimize. Maybe we do it once in three years or five years." But the cloud solution is where there are constant updates and ticketing releases every quarterly. So that's something which is very good. You don't have to wait for, you know, the version upgrades or something where the new features are expected only in the new version and whatever it is here. It is continuous development and also continuous releases of new features. That's something good in terms of their cloud solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The drill-down functionality is also very good."
"It's an open platform. That's also important. You can create your own data connectors. There's everything you can do with APIs. It's not closed like, perhaps, an SAP system might be."
"The solution is a very good enterprise tool with excellent enterprise functionality for security and user access. It also works perfectly in distribution, with everyone getting their own reports. It is very complex, so you can do whatever you want. If you want to make some data limitations, you can do it. I also like the internal in-memory engine with the Symantec layer. This makes the solution pretty powerful."
"We are using mobile analytics, and it is amazing."
"The solution is ideal for enterprise-level companies or corporations."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to actually embed actions, comments, being able to leverage Transaction Services to embed the tool into a business process."
"The scalability is great. It was one of the selling points for us on MicroStrategy."
"We are using it for operations analysis and sales data analysis."
"Initial setup was straightforward."
"The solution effectively integrates with third-party products."
"Its ease of use and the ability to drill down into detail are the most valuable. Executive dashboarding features are the most commonly used ones."
"The most valuable features are user-friendly and self-service tools. Users can define their reports based on available data sets, with multiple dimensions and slide and dice data capabilities."

Cons

"They should provide more tutorials and include some project files."
"There is room for improvement in data visualization."
"Preparation, data loading and data management application is challenging with MicroStrategy. It lacks cube-based analytics as it is outdated, meaning there is no memory or fast processing analytics or MMA deployment."
"There is a need to improve the automatic generation of metrics in MicroStrategy, as currently everything must be done manually."
"MicroStrategy could learn from Power BI's user-friendly interface."
"MicroStrategy is dragging behind other tools on the self-service visualizations, like Tableau. I would rate Tableau as a 10. For the same visualizations, I would say MicroStrategy is an eight, maybe nine. They're still behind on the self-service visualizations,"
"Its price should be lower. In terms of features, what we have is quite encompassing right now."
"They need to improve on distribution services. There are lack of features which were there earlier with Narrowcast, but they are not there in the distribution services."
"In terms of data modeling, it could be simplified. Sometimes, it seems complicated. Also, the response time for data set refreshes could be faster to enhance the user experience."
"Quality of support varies."
"When looking at web-based BI or cloud-based BI vendors, there should be abilities for power users to build deep analysis. If they are not data science tools, they are not for power users."
"The dashboard could be improved and include additional features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They can improve its licensing. It is a bit expensive as compared to Microsoft and other tools."
"The licensing is a bit high per user."
"We have one of the best pricing available, but we can't disclose that information."
"The solution’s licensing cost is expensive."
"The pricing list itself is not publicly accessible, so it's a bit opaque."
"Pricing, in general, is high. With Power BI, you get mobile with the license, whereas with MicroStrategy, you have to purchase mobile for extra."
"The solution is scalable. A little expensive perhaps, but it is scalable."
"It would be nice if there was a sticker price that says, "This software costs this amount of money." But I think that's just indicative of all software vendors. A lot of people are in it to make money, commissions, so it's just the nature of the business. But I would like to see more transparency, more equality, on pricing. Some people get better deals than others, I think."
"The solution's pricing is reasonable compared to other products."
"Oracle products are always going to be on the higher end of your price scale. You have to kind of accept that going in."
