Long-term hosting with trusted security and compliance has supported diverse web projects
LAMP Stack Debian is one of the standards of website hosting solutions and software. Apache is the lead web service in the Linux world and not only in the Linux world. It has many features, modules, security implementations, and performance capabilities. SSL mode is one of the most valuable features of LAMP Stack Debian that I find of particular importance. mod_security, mod_ssl, and mod_rewrite are all basic components and basic authorization features of LAMP Stack Debian that can help prevent unauthorized access, offering different types of security implementation based on your IP address, different headers, and tokens. I can have a huge variety of options to apply with Apache. LAMP Stack Debian allows my organization to do its work. It allows us to provide development and hosting, and to host company business portals and business websites. The whole workflow and development are tied to this. Business results from using LAMP Stack Debian include actual delivery to market of websites and PHP applications. It is absolutely trusted for the clients and different vendors, making it a well-known standard that makes it easier to proceed with any compliance checks and validations with the clients. It is easy to work with as each component of the market and business understands what this tool is, what its requirements are, and what to expect.

SUSE Linux Enterprise is a mature and reliable platform, but there are areas where it can be improved. Modernizing the system management tools is important as many users appreciate YaST for its centralized management, but there is a growing demand for more modern, web-based, and modular tools. The introduction of tools such as Agama, a web-based installer, and Cockpit in newer releases is a step in the right direction.SUSE has made progress with multi-Linux support, allowing organizations to manage and support not just SUSE systems but also other distributions such as Red Hat and CentOS; continuing to expand these capabilities, especially for hybrid and multi-cloud environments, will help organizations manage diverse infrastructure more effectively. Security is a top concern, and further strengthening default security policies, simplifying compliance management, and integrating advanced vulnerability management tools would be a valuable improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"LAMP Stack Debian is a very solid product, well-known, well-maintained, and very popular."
"LAMP Stack Debian has impacted my organization positively because it is easy to set up and there is no cost related to licensing since the entire stack is open-source."
"The benefits and positive impact I have seen since starting to work with LAMP Stack Debian include cost-effectiveness, as it is open source and free with no licensing issues to handle, and I appreciate the documentation and resources available."
"LAMP Stack Debian has streamlined our operational overhead because it is highly predictable and universally respected by Linux engineers."
"I like how the tool handles kernel modules and upgrades - we rarely have issues after upgrades, unlike with other Linux distributions like Oracle Linux or Ubuntu. The kernel module management is excellent. Changes made in one version typically work the same in other versions too, which isn't always the case with other distributions. There's also lots of information and community support available if you run into any problems, both on the official website and in forums and user groups. I know many people who use it specifically, so it's easy to get independent support if needed. I've been working with the tool for a long time, since 2003, before they became SUSE Linux Enterprise. It's always been one of the most admin-friendly Linux versions."
"We use this as our operating system; it's a platform to deploy solutions."
"Linux is easy to use. You have more control on a Unix system."
"The most important feature is the automatic kernel lifecycle subscription, which is critical for us because the server cannot go down once we start offering any services on the cluster."
"SUSE Linux's most valuable feature is the documentation - there is a lot of documentation about how to create custom servers."
"This is a very stable product and we plan to continue using it in the future."
"The product's initial setup phase was easy."
"The initial setup for most modern Linux distributions is normally straightforward. Most of the common distributions use an ncurses or GUI install."

Cons

"LAMP Stack Debian sometimes has concerns about the memory usage or speed, and sometimes competitors like Nginx or Lighttpd have better results in those areas."
"The primary drawback of LAMP Stack Debian's hyper-focus on stability is that the software versions in the stable repository channels for PHP, MySQL, and MariaDB packages can become outdated quickly relative to the fast-moving web ecosystems."
"Regarding areas of LAMP Stack Debian that could be improved or enhanced, while it is very nice as is, one area might be the caching mechanism."
"LAMP Stack Debian can be improved by addressing the lack of a built-in caching mechanism."
"When working in a Department of Defense environment, Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) have to be followed. SLES is not really addressed directly here. It did make following security policy difficult."
"Red Hat has more packages that are available than SUSE does. I'd love to see more projects based on SUSE."
"If SUSE Linux Enterprise could have more documentation related to the operating system or open-source code, then I believe it would definitely be beneficial."
"The free version sometimes has security holes."
"The solution could be more stable."
"The interface could improve."
"SUSE Linux could provide more information about cost and the details of how clustering works."
"I would like to see GUI improved, it could be more user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I rate the product price an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"Anyone can use Linux because it is open-source."
"Regarding pricing, everybody would want it to be cheaper."
"I would advise others to download the free or strictly open source versions, then test them in their environment before committing to a purchase. This will allow for testing suitability for applications that they want to run."
"When we first implemented this product, we had licenses for support."
"There is a free tier and a paid support tier. If you do not need support, then the solution is free to use. If you need support then there is an option for that as well."
"The product is expensive. We purchase its yearly license."
"The license we pay is for Oracle. We make use of the community edition."
