Provides detection logic that tells us which customer will record an update and is less expensive than other solutions
I haven't had experience with customer service and support, however, we did have an advisory case with one of their technical support staff. We were publishing and getting the full metadata for the patch. We were getting the full updates for the patch release. There was confusion as to why we were seeing that in the SCCM, instead of in the full metadata patch. The support person was able to help us in understanding what we were doing wrong, highlighting it could be a certificate issue. We generated a new certificate, and after they were applied, the issue was fixed. Overall, I would rate their customer service and support a five out of five.

Efficient patch management, potentially scalable, and free is using Microsoft servers
Whether to use the solution or not is going to be context-sensitive. If you have a strong Microsoft team, you can probably handle this. If, like my team, you also have a dozen other vendors to consider, it's not just the operating system. The pattern I've seen over time with WSUS is that it has the potential to be a fantastic product, yet it doesn't feel finished. People try to implement WSUS, and context is important. In my context, we're a small business without teams of Microsoft-certified people. We are just trying to use what's available to achieve a goal, and WSUS is fine, however, not the best product out there. The business in America often tries to do more with less. I would not recommend it to a team of my size. If a company had half a dozen or a dozen Microsoft-certified people, I'd say, run with it. For a team of my size, no, absolutely not. I would rate the overall solution a solid eight out of ten.

Pros

"This solution is stable."
"The most valuable feature of Ivanti Patch for SCCM is the detection logic."
"It ensures we get the necessary updates and features from the servers."
"I am absolutely happy with its stability and performance. It is a stable product."
"It's free. Basically, as long as you have licensed Microsoft servers, you should be good to go."
"I would rate the overall solution a solid eight out of ten."
"Microsoft Windows Server Update Services is highly stable. It is one of the most stable solutions from Microsoft."
"Instead of leaving each server to download their own updates, with WSUS you have a centralized management tool for all the updates alongside a log for all the servers. By creating and deploying a WSUS server that will download the updates from the internet and dispatch them to the other servers, you can have control over the entire deployment process."
"PowerShell is a valuable feature."
"It's a scalable product."

Cons

"We have some problems with patches not installing successfully."
"In future releases, I would like to see improvements with the feature upgrade for the SCCM, which Microsoft has already integrated. Currently, Ivanti does not give us information about the enablement package."
"We have some problems when we update the servers."
"One area for potential improvement involves the administrative portal, where numerous options, including asset management and patch management, are integrated."
"The only complex part was the solution’s tricky setup phase."
"Some issues with scalability in larger organizations."
"We can't rely on the product."
"Microsoft Windows Server Update Services must include functions for providing updates about inventory."
"In the next release, I would like them to provide better connectivity. They must improve the connectivity between the WSS with Microsoft or the client."
"The security could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We do not have a license with Ivanti, instead we buy just the plugins for the consoles, making it a much less expensive option versus other solutions."
"The integration is included in the Windows Server system, and there are no additional fees."
"It doesn't need a license. It's offered for free with Microsoft."
"The product is expensive."
"Configuration Manager is less expensive than Microsoft Windows Server Update Services."
"Microsoft Windows Server Update Services is not an expensive solution."
"The solution is expensive, and the licensing costs are yearly."
"While it might be relatively more expensive for smaller companies, larger enterprises can find it robust and capable of delivering significant value."
"The product is not expensive."
