Match and merge functionality is still the best but cloud version needs more functionality
There are various areas for improvement in IDMC. Enhancements on basic data management functionality and the UI front, such as multiple templates and improved grid views, would be beneficial. Bulk data management features could be improved from the UI perspective to get to the level of the on prem versions of Informatica MDM. The tool needs to mature but missing small but important features, like restricted dynamic attributes functionality, data inheritance rules in master hierachies, identifiers not being passed in jobs is a drawback.

Used for wrangling or transforming data from sources like S3 and Databricks
I use Matillion ETL for wrangling or transforming data from sources like S3 and Databricks The most valuable feature of Matillion ETL is the UI experience in which you can drag and drop most of the transformation. Sometimes, we have issues with the solution's stability and need to restart it for…

Allows you to develop your own components and can be used as an OEM
Sometimes, scalability is part of planning. It depends on what you mean by scalability. People talk a lot about it, but scalability is not always about system functionality. Sometimes, it may be planning the job you're doing. If you want to split it into several jobs or servers, you don't actually have to have it built in as a functionality. You can create a job using a loop, which runs and controls several jobs in a loop that may be controlled. Scaling should not always be part of the infrastructure based on whether the engine can scale or not. I think it's your plan or project that should scale and split, and you can define these parameters. These parameters include how many servers you want to run or how many executions you want to do on different parts of the data. It's not always an issue of the engine running. Sometimes, your database should be configured to support partitioning. The product may scale very well without partitioning, but if the basic response is very slow, you didn't solve the problem. You should solve the problems at a higher level, not just at the execution level. They should be solved at the database level and communication level, and you should have firewalls. We are trying to add to the open source the ability to generate code for containers and Kubernetes that exist in the subscription version. Once you do this, Kubernetes will take care of the scaling, so there is no problem.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"We can scan anything."
"Replication allows us to fully replicate all objects from Shop Floor Data Collection (SFDC) to in-house/on-premises database in one job."
"I give the stability a ten out of ten."
"It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten."
"The features that I have found most valuable are, first of all, that it comes as part of this whole bundle of Informatica tools. So if you've been implementing Informatica MDM across a business, you'd often find it comes with it. It's been thrown in as a sweetener. The adoption of it is often the challenge because as part of your MDM project, governance is seen as something beyond the MDM and is often restrictive. So this tool actually, for the first time, when you talk to data governance teams, gives a holistic view of what a data governance team can do with this tool."
"Informatica MDM's most valuable feature is the interconnection between multiple Master Data domains."
"Their new licensing is very flexible. With Informatica Cloud, you have plenty of items under the same umbrella, such as services, offerings, data quality, and data masking. You have also got master data management and API management. What I really like about them is that you don't need to go to Informatica and say that you need a data integration module. You would say that you need iPaaS or Informatica Cloud. They'll then try to understand your needs and give you IPUs, which are the processing units. If I purchased a hundred IPUs from Informatica as a customer, I can use 70 IPUs for data integration. I would also need data quality, so I can use 10 IPUs for data quality. I can use the remaining 20 IPUs for API management. Down the line, if I see that my initial data integration needs for the development phase are met, then out of the 70 IPUs assigned for data integration, I can use 30 IPUs for data masking. I can shuffle these numbers in any way within the Informatica Cloud umbrella for the tenure for which I have subscribed to these IPUs. I can use all services the way I want. This flexibility is what I really love about Informatica. It also has got good connectors."
"The scalability of the solution is excellent."
"The product is quite stable and can handle complex data integration tasks well."
"Matillion ETL helps manage data movement, ingestion, and transformation through pipelines."
"It is pretty user-friendly, even for people who aren't super technical."
"The technical support treats us well. They already have a support portal, and they are responsive, which helps."
"Matillion's technical support is excellent."
"The tool's middle-dimensional structure significantly simplifies obtaining the right data at the appropriate level. This feature makes deploying our applications easier since we utilize a single source without publishing data from various sources."
"It's highly scalable. It takes upon itself the Redshift scalability, so it's very good."
"The most valuable feature of Matillion ETL is its ease of use. If you have had some experience with other solutions, such as Snowflake, the use of this solution will be simple."
"This is a user-friendly solution that is easy to use."
"The data integration aspect of the solution is excellent."
"The product's initial setup phase was easy."
"Talend is safe to use because it is very restrictive. It is easy to use when one learns how to manipulate data with SQL."
"Talend lets you do everything — mapping, workflow, and orchestration — in a single place."
"This solution has improved our overall time to value for data ingestion."
"The initial setup of the product was very easy."
"The main differentiator that I have seen between Talend and other data integration tools is the ability to view the data pipeline in the form of a program."

Cons

"I would like to have the solution in one product and technical support needs to be better."
"Informatica Axon does not provide complete transparency about the level of detailing you need and the logic used in ETL."
"There is room for improvement in the Data Marketplace aspect."
"Connectivity could be improved, it can be a little slow."
"There are also some technical issues sometimes with integrations because clients have a lot of different types of data sources."
"Exploring the possibility of incorporating AI capabilities that can suggest additional rules would significantly streamline our data analysis process following data profiling."
"With the solution, we had some issues, and we have every day, and we used to open a ticket. Sometimes, there are data issues and transformation issues."
"The tool should provide a unified user interface to manage the data objects."
"When using the SQL loader type there were not a lot of pre-processing features for the data. For example, if there is a table with twenty columns, but we only want to load ten columns. In that case, we can use a security script to select the specific columns needed. However, if we want to perform extensive pre-processing of the data, I faced some challenges with Matillion ETL. I did not encounter many challenges, but my overall experience is limited as I only have three years of experience."
"In the next release, we would like to have connections to more databases."
"I am looking forward to seeing the expansion of the source range for their data loader product."
"Going forward, I would like them to add custom jobs, since we still have to run these outside of Matillion."
"The cost of the solution is high and could be reduced."
"I found some of the more complex aspects of ETL challenging, but I grasped the concepts fairly quickly."
"Ideally, I would like it to integrate with Secrets Manager as well as the AWS."
"Our main challenge currently is that Matillion runs on an EC2 instance, limiting us to running only two processes simultaneously at the entry level."
"The stability of the solution could improve when running jobs. There can be errors when running projects but in the end, it works well and the errors do not impact the result."
"There used to be many Youtube channels that offered Talend training, but now there don't seem to be any. The solution should offer more online training resources."
"he overall marketing and documentation of this product need to improve a lot."
"We need more components to be more efficient. We use a lot of components, such as Salesforce, and it's not easy to use. There's are minor bugs and it's not easy to use some of the features."
"Having additional training materials, such as a video tutorial, would be an improvement."
"It is not as visually appealing as some of the other tools."
"It is complicated to understand the configuration process for email components."
"In terms of what can be improved, the scheduling is not there in the sister version, while it is there in the cloud one, which is a paid version. If all kinds of scheduling could be available on the Open Studio that we generally use and practice on, that would be great. The scheduling of the data migration is currently not available in the sister version of Talend Open Studio that we are working on. It is available in the advanced version of the Talend. This is the one thing that can be improvised."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its pricing model can be improved."
"We have licenses, and we are provided with certain particular services in the solution."
"Informatica MDM recently changed its pricing model. It's usage-based but I don't have much insight into the current pricing."
"I rate the licensing cost of Informatica MDM a five out of ten."
"it's expensive, but if you're looking for a stable solution, Informatica MDM is a good one to choose."
"It's a costly solution"
"You pay for this solution based on IPUs, Informatica Processing Units. This depends on how much data you process and how much memory you consume from the cloud provider, and you pay as you go."
"My understanding is that Informatica is quite expensive compare to other tools that are available in the market."
"It is cost-effective. Based on our use case, it's efficient and cheap. It saves a lot of money and our upfront costs are less."
"It was procured through the AWS Marketplace because it keeps things simple. They offer retail-like checkout and bill through your existing Amazon Web Services account."
"The price of Matillion ETL is reasonable."
"It is not necessarily a cheap solution. However, it's reasonable priced, especially with the smaller machines that we run it on."
"It was very easy to purchase through the AWS Marketplace, but it was also expensive."
"The cost of the solution is high and could be reduced."
"The solution's pricing is not based on the licensing cost but on the running hours when the Matillion instance is up and running."
"The absence of licensing commitments makes it easy to experiment with the tool, and if we decide it's not suitable, we can simply stop the ETL instance and cease incurring charges."
"The solution will be more expensive if you have a low data volume and a large number of developers."
"I am using the open-source version of the solution, so there are no extra costs for any feature."
"The cost for one year for the ETL tools, not for the big data, is 6K per year. It is a good price."
"Talend Open Studio is priced too high."
"For Talend Open Studio, there is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing cost. Talend Open Studio is a bit expensive, in my opinion."
"Pricing and licensing are fairly straightforward. It is reasonably priced and managed."
"Open Studio has a basic license and additional costs for services, including customer support and technical assistance."
"The cost, particularly in Africa, is quite high."
