If you need a real big data solution, look for a distributed solution that actually has a proven track record.
This version of Infobright has zero support for distributed scalability. The internal smart grid employed for each table has a major flaw in that the data size cannot be expunged until 2GB of data is reached at the column-level. This is a major flaw, making usage in a big-data scenario impossible. This means that you can delete as many records from a database table as you want. However, unless the 2GB aggregate size threshold was reached for some of the columns in the table, no reduction in disk space usage will occur. Only the data from the columns that reached 2GB will actually decrease. Other columns below 2GB in size do not leave the disk. I spent countless hours trying to find some workaround for this. I have nightmares of my e-mail inbox full of unsolvable questions about data size reduction from our field engineers.

Scalable performance tuning and optimization for finance and supply chain jobs
We run our finance and supply chain jobs using SQL BW, and we visualize our data loads on Power BI. We are using SQL Data Warehouse for data warehousing In terms of cost savings, we don't need specialization in skills as advanced as Teradata. We used to pay extensive licensing fees for Teradata,…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has very amazing smart grid query feature for very fast aggregate queries across millions of rows"
"The product is easy to use, and anybody can easily migrate to advanced DB."
"The initial setup is very simple."
"The most valuable features of Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics are the interface and the agility of the on-cloud platform."
"One central workspace to manage everything for your data warehouse including visualization."
"We can have the dedicated SQL up and running within 15 minutes."
"The solution offers strong scalability opportunities."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is the analytics and that it can connect with Power BI."
"The most valuable feature is the incremental load because we do not need to refresh the entire data on a daily basis."

Cons

"Only the data from the columns that reached 2GB will actually decrease. Other columns below 2GB in size do not leave the disk."
"We'd, of course, always like to pay less for the service if we can."
"Documentation could be improved."
"There is a limit on the number of concurrent queries to around 125 for Azure Synapse."
"I would like to see more ready-to-use products from Synapse. Right now, everything seems a bit futuristic without much modern use."
"Managing workloads and data transformation using Databricks should be a focus."
"In the future, Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics could improve the performance, there are other solutions that are better, such as Databricks."
"Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics's overall integration within the Azure ecosystem could improve. The native Microsoft solution versus another solution, such as Databricks, there are areas where there could be some improvements."
"Synapse makes it easy to integrate and onboard data from other Microsoft and Azure sources. The interface is familiar because we were using Azure Data Factory before Synapse. It made the transition even easier because the Synapse interface is exactly the same."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our pricing was based on server instances and it was actually very cheap compared to Oracle. I guess you get what you pay for."
"The solution is subscription-based. You can also pay to use the product as you go."
"Our license is very expensive"
"Because it's cloud the cost is a different convention and the licensing costs are not the same."
"The product is expensive."
"I don't know about the price, but I'm trying to get a sense of the cost."
"We only have to pay for what we use in the solution. It's easy for the customers. It's not more than some companies, not more than 300 to 400 users. They do not need to buy other license products, such as SAP B1, or analytics tools in the market, such as Tableau."
"Microsoft's pricing is relatively high, and it varies according to the extent of our usage. The pricing is directly tied to our consumption. This decision is ultimately a business choice."
"Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics is an expensive solution and there is a license needed to use it. My company has an enterprise license."
