Enables organizations to make large-scale recoveries easily, but the security must be improved
The security must be improved. We face a lot of cyber threats like ransomware. It impacts data availability and protection. The tool must provide a mechanism to make resilient backups. The tool must ensure that the recent backups have no ransomware. The backup must be immutable. They must be cyber-resilient backups. Finding a good resource person for IBM Spectrum in Pakistan is difficult. We have to rely on the support team. Resource availability is a challenge.

An expensive next-generation data recovery and backup software solution with poor data restoration
Their restoration protocols could be better. I pulled all my clients out of their cloud mostly because I wasn't confident that they could restore out of the cloud. This was backed up by friends who had been burned by stuff like that. We moved away because of the lack of resources to restore from a potential catastrophic failure. It's challenging, and in some cases, they couldn't do it because they didn't have enough resources. For example, if there was a major disaster, and everybody needed their images out of the cloud, they couldn't give them to everybody.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution integrates well with other tools."
"There is protection against disasters with good, fast, reliable recovery options."
"With this product, we now have a reliable backup solution."
"The API is very good."
"The most valuable features are the API features because it allows you to integrate with your Microsoft SQL, your Oracle, and your IBM Db2."
"Using this tool, we can easily backup and restore or recover the data for PCs and mobiles in case of system crashes."
"The most valuable feature of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is the deduplication functionality. The clients moved to this solution originally because of this feature."
"The support from IBM is very good."
"I like that they have some new devices that are simpler to use because they kind of tie right into the cloud."
"The most valuable feature is the backups."

Cons

"The tool needs to increase the number of threats."
"The one issue we are facing is related to file restores."
"The solution only supports HyperV and VMware but doesn't support Nutanix."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve the IBM Spectrum Protect environment. It can be difficult to administer. The initial configuration can be difficult for entry-level teams or deployment teams, and it might be difficult to integrate. There's just too much content involved in the solution. The documentation is way too large."
"Rooms for improvement in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus are installation and configuration because those were difficult. They should try their best to improve those areas. In the next release of the product, better implementation and administration are what we're expecting."
"It requires much more automation features."
"The software's technical support could improve its response time for different time zones."
"It still needs to grow and add new features. IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, I believe, requires time to become competitive due to a weakness in the other software products."
"Their restoration protocols could be better. I pulled all my clients out of their cloud mostly because I wasn't confident that they could restore out of the cloud. "StorageCraft ShadowXafe should improve the on-premises console management controls and protection and recovery."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"In addition to the standard licensing fees, we paid for implementation and training."
"The price offering from IBM is coming down because it is based on number of VM machines. So, IBM is coming to the market to show the added value of the product."
"The price is lower than that of some competing products."
"The price is perpetual, but the maintenance cost is annual. That is, we pay once for the product and pay annually for the maintenance and support. The price was much cheaper than what we would have had to pay for EMC or Veritas. The pricing is competitive, and I would rate it at four out of five."
"We have a perpetual license for the tool since it is deployed on-premise."
"If you need to extend it, it can be extended acting like a normal Spectrum Protect with a long archive."
"Clients prefer to buy a perpetual license, but the majority opt for a yearly subscription."
"Depends on the licensing options that you choose."
"They are more expensive than some of the others out there. We have gone away from their cloud due to pricing."

It is probably based on the number of CPUs. They are fairly expensive.
